I reckon they're only doing it because Obama said he wasn't going to support SOPA. Their plan must be to postpone it until the next election, then if Obama gets voted out he won't be able to veto it. It's far from dead.

There needs to be a voting off process done once every six months for Congress - but not only will a member be fired, they will be forced to work a demeaning job to finish out their term.
America would totally get behind this - it would be like American Idol but only it won't be a complete waste of fucking time.

I'd like to know how much this guy gets paid a year, $100k a year or more? Fuck off you patriotic piece of shit. 'Support this bill to support the country you love' what a fucking cheap way of earning your buck, and A lot of Americans actually buy into this crap.

It wasn't exactly a "Day of Rage," although there was no shortage of pissed-off stupid at @herpderpedia [https://twitter.com/#!/herpderpediaa], but the "No Wiki Wednesday" [or whatever you'd like to call it] was nevertheless noticed by the Powers That Be.
Link to Wiki's twitter is broken, got an extra a in there. :u

During this whole SOPA/PIPA thing, there was one question that has been sort of bugging me.
What was Virgin/Richard Branson's position on this whole issue?
As a huge business figure, he must have had an opinion on this, and could have easily thrown the argument in a whole different direction if he had spoken out about this.

Since his company is not listed as a SOPA supporter, and him being quite an intelligent guy, my guess would be that he was against it.

But I guess he may have remained silent due to business deals with companies that do support it.

But I think with him being such a huge business icon, if he would have joined our side, the fight would have been won much sooner and much more definite.
But I guess this is all just speculation.
Just my thoughts.

I really hope I'm not the only one who starts seeing a little red when the phrase "foreign thieves" gets thrown about.

[sub][sub]Yes yes, I know, "you're never the only one". Shut the fuck up, it's a figure of speech.[/sub][/sub]

After all, it's not like any American has ever engaged in a spot of piracy, and of course that fucking clown knows it. He's just trying to leverage a bit of good ol' xenophobia, the miserable, rotten little... grrr...
Or maybe, just maybe, american pirates are not seen as the bigger problem because they can be prosecuted quite legally as long as they are found. That's what this whole mess is about. People pirating american things from the safety of their own country where their actions may not even be illegal.

I'm not saying it's right, but not every racial comment stems from irrational hatred. Of course he knows there are american pirates.

Sorry I don't mean to defend him or his poor wording, but too many people focus on a single comment rather than the whole picture.

Stay frosty, people, it's only been thrown into limbo. One day it'll return, and we must be ready when it does.

Fortunately, all four Republican candidates voiced their opposition to SOPA, so whoever wins the election the internet will still have a powerful ally.
Then again, they could just be lying to get support.

I'll wait. I thought they were gonna kill it, then they went back to saying "We'll just vote for it later!" That p'd me off really badly, so I am a bit skeptical. So I'll wait a week. If no one talks about SOPA for the weeks time, then I'll gladly say "Sopa is Dead again!" If the next day the guy's like "No, no, I misspoke: We're gonna go ahead and vote for it in late Feb/Early March", then I will at least know it was coming.

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad to see that although we may all hate and fight each other at every little thing online, we can all agree, at the very least, that this was the wrong direction to take IP protection. Yay internetz! We did it!

Wasn't it just postponed indefinitely a couple days ago, then brought back?

Call me skeptical, but...
No. It was 'shelved', then they said they were going to relook it in February.

But then the Blackout happened. It worked.
They claimed it was "indefinite" before they (a day later) said they might (might is a word you're missing) re-examine it as soon as (more you're missing on this front) February.

As rsacks pointed out, Lamar Smith is a Representative, not a Senator. Not sure how I ended up referring to his as a Senator since his website clearly refers to him as a Congressman, but the original report has been updated.

Pft, indefinite. That means they're going to wait for the hype to die down and everyone to focus on something else, then shove it into some appropriations bill as an amendment overnight.

Stay classy, because nobody in America pirates anything, am I right?
Looking at recorded stats, America piracy rates are 20% compared to countries in Europe being around 60-90%. So.. Yeah, I can understand why the American government is pissed about it. People losing jobs due to butthurt people pirating and hacking/maliciously attacking websites.

I've heard people say that buying a product at a store is not the same as stealing/pirating a digital version of the same product. That's. Fucking. Bullshit. THEY'RE THE SAME THING.

Our eyes are still on you, US Congress.

If someone tries to ninja these crappy bills back in, I swear I will go to Capitol Hill and punt someone.

Again with the copyright costs jobs bullshit

Copyright doesn't cost jobs

A crappy economy and a company trying to cut corners by getting the maximumn workload through the minimum employees costs jobs...

Get it through your heads people!!!

I'll be honest in admitting that I didn't really follow this. Even so, I'm happy to hear that it's "indefinitely" postponed.

Well, it's good to know my emailing and calling on Wednesday did something, but I don't feel like its truly gone. When November rolls around and people find themselves employed for another two years, they might try and bring it back quietly.

I don't trust them to vote with the people on this, but as long as it is shelved they never have to admit they vote with whoever gave them the most cash.

I hope its just pessimism talking...
