I have been waiting for SO LONG for an opportunity to use that. That's pretty much it, you can probably guess my opinion on this matter.

"That sounds like the Alliance... Unite all the planets under one rule, so that everybody can be interfered with or ignored equally." Brownie points to those who know where that one is from :)
I'm gonna guess Mass Effect.
I'm gonna guess that "Brownie points" should be "Browncoat points" and say Firefly rules.

And this Senator drools.

PS: I wonder if my second paragraph would get me arrested under this Glorious New Regime.

Congratulations America! You've moved one step closer to a Totalitarian Government! Just wait until Newspeak starts popping up in your vocabulary.
No we haven't, it'll never pass.
The point, I'm assuming at least, that he's trying to make is this :

Based on the fact that there are individuals in our government willing to support things such as this, is what makes us closer to a totalitarian government. So what, you can only curse if you're locked in your bedroom, under the blankets, holding a piece of cheese and a giant foam finger? Ok, I'll be in my bedroom. Can someone bring me a piece of cheese?

Wow. I don't swear much(not around my parents) but this is fucking ridiculous.
We should pass a law making it a crime to try to pass asinine laws like this. Then everyone who felt inconvenienced by the legal procedure gets to line up and taser the guy that proposed said asinine law in the first place.
Er...We have that law. It's called the first amendment, and it has been incorporated to the states by the Supreme Court. There are a couple of problems with the law anyways.

1. It has vague language. If it were to pass it's enforcement would likely define lewd and profane as something close to pornography but,
2. It won't pass, because it's vague and unconstitutional and...
3. Is kind of redundant. NC has laws that ban the sale of pornography to children, and limits swearing and lewd conduct in public places, but even if this was written into law,
4. The supreme court would kill it after it's first challenge.

Yeah, I know. I just get tired of hearing stuff like this. As long as no one tries to amend the constitution then we're gold.

This is exactly what happened in Demolition Man.
I can't believe it took until Post 47 for someone to mention Demolition Man in this context.

Well, it's not gonna pass. There was at least three cases of this nature before, and each time the courts ruled in favor of free speech.
Except in George Carlin's case.
what are you talking about? the case for the 7 words you can't say he WON, they ruled that it was protected speech according to the first amendment, he actually had the full decision by the supreme court hung up on his wall

as for the topic on hand, it might get passed but it will be challenged and struck down pretty easily. america has some VERY backward and puritan type laws, hence the horrible sex ed in schools and the fact that intelligent design is being forced on kids in public schools even tho it's cleverly disguised religion. like it's illegal to ship or sell sex toys or movies in many counties across the various states. yeah for separation of church and state

No. No. Just on so many levels, no.

This is sickening. Repulsive. And I'm saying this as an American.

Not only will it not pass, but it won't work, either, because you simply can't control what children, or anyone else, for that matter, come into contact with, unless you want to destroy mankind.

What's more, who gets to decide what's vulgar? Are you going to outlaw words like "Poo" "Tinkle" and "Potty?" No. No. Just no.

George Carlin would be pissed.

Apologies for such a short rant, but I have to go brush my teeth. Mouthwash wouldn't hurt, either.
Oh no, don't apologize. I'm with you on this. Who decides what's okay. Either its all fair game or none of it is.

That aside, this is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my entire life, and that's saying something. I went to public school.

EVERYONE HEED MY WORDS!!!!!!!!!

Most people from SC aren't stupid enough to even think this is a good idea. Its just someone trying to please his constituency. As someone who lives in SC I can tell you that no one I know has ever even heard of this, so it probably got shelved in committee as soon as it was brought up. I would be very surprised if it was even considered. We South Carolinians are very proud of our right to curse, and we exercise it frequently and with great enthusiasm.

And to the Senator I would like to make the following statement.
FUCK YOU, YOU STUPID PIG-FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!! PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON THE REST OF THE WORLD THINKS PEOPLE IN SC ARE STUPID!! YOU ARE WORSE THAN THAT HOT CHICK WHO COULDNT FORM A COHERENT SENTENCE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION!! YOUR A STATE SENATOR, FOR FUCK'S SAKE!! YOU DESERVE NOTHING BUT SCORN AND HATRED FROM OTHERS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE AND AFTERLIFE!! BURN IN HELL YOU ROTTEN MOTHER-FUCKER!!

That is all.

Oh. I must have really misheard what they said in Penn and Teller.

As for the rest of your post, I've corresponded with people in other parts of the US. Not a single one is taught Creationism or has abstinence-only sex-ed. The stereotypes aren't as true as you're lead to believe.
