I know what you mean. I'm really starting to get sick of The Escapist lately. Not the staff, but the people who come here. Obviously, I'm not one to really judge, as I'm more of a lurker anyways, but I mostly lurk because of the people here. I used to think that only the R&P forums were the true scummy parts of the forum, but I guess even Escapists can prove me wrong.Amnestic said:

You don't die from playing twelve hours straight, my record is 26 hours (bitches) and I'm sure there are people who have played even longer straight. Even if you didn't eat or drink anything in that time period, you wouldn't die. I'd say there is no connection here.
I find exhaustion unlikely, if he was at the brink of exhaustion how could he dash home, get a meal, then return. Even if it was just a block, that still takes sufficient energy to do. I hope they add the official cause of death later.

Have there been any deaths in Europe in which the deceased was linked to having played video games at some point in their life, and that was promoted as a contributing factor? Did that murder between those Counterstrike players happen here? I can't remember.
But yeah, my money would go on blood abnormality or pre-existing condition, with slim outlying possibilities such as chronic sleep deprivation leading to complications from exhaustion and food poisoning since he died so soon after eating or indeed malnutrition.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help it. You call him a moron for playing twelve hours straight after you had previously said "Ive played for like 14 hours straight." Yet you also call him a pussy. Back to the topic: I will admit twelve hours isn't so bad. There have been people who have played a lot longer but I don't think just twelve hours of playing games triggered his death, it may have been a contributing factor but I doubt it is what killed him. He may have been really stressed recently as it said he was a nineteen year old college student, that is a hard age with all the big stuff happening at his school. So maybe too much stress had an adverse effect on his brain which may have helped kill him. I don't know, I'm not a doctor nor a psychologist this is just my opinions on the matter.
My sincere apologies and condolences to his family and friends.

It usually seems to stem from emotional trauma or family problems (in my case my parents devorce an the subsequent loss of my friends). It sounds like a blood clot to me. An extreme change in diet or poor diet can lead to one, even if you are active (I know, I've had one from this exact cause). The fact that he probably remained fairly stationary didn't help, I'm sure. And if he was drinking caffeine, that could have made it worse (or so my doc told me). The point to this is that it was probably a conglomeration of circumstances that led to his death.
More importantly, however, maybe we should be reminded that no matter how infallible we think we are, poor diet, little rest, and lack of exercise are an unhealthy combination. Something to keep in mind if you are one of those gamers that consistently plays for 12 hours at a time.

Those South Korean kids are insane. You need to realize that he didn't just play 12 hours that day. Those guys play 12 hours almost every day. I'm not saying he died from that, I'm just saying that it can't be healthy and it probably didn't help his condition. Whatever his condition was.
