He clearly didn't die of video game playing. There was a whole host of problems that could have been the culprit. He just happened to be playing video games when it occurred. If he was running a marathon and this happened, no one would be saying running marathons is unhealthy.
Things like this are annoying. The media fails again though. They don't have all the information so they put out a misleading story. Next thing you know, video games are the source of all evil.
That Guy Who Phails said:
Sounds like a seizure to me.
Probably shouldn't have been playing games in the first place.
Photosensitive seizures don't take 12 hours to happen, it's within a few minutes at most. And the story didn't report an epileptic fit if one did happen. A seizure involves involuntary muscular contraction, and appear quite violent in nature. There would be no mistaking it. He was also a regular there, so it seems unlikely he had a seizure from the monitors. Furthermore, the peak onset age of photosensitive epilepsy is 10-14 years. And this is only 5% of all epileptics. Also, if you crunch the numbers, there are just over 300 million people in the US, and out of that, 1 million are epileptic. The population of South Korea is 48.75 million. In the US, that is 0.3% that are epileptic. That is 166,000 people in South Korea. It becomes even more unlikely when you consider the fact that only 5% of those people are going to suffer from photosensitive seizures. It's not very likely he was 1 of about 8300 people who suffers from such a condition in South Korea, considering he was a regular at the place. Statistics lesson over, LOL.
On a separate note, this kid is dead, it's pretty stupid to call the guy a moron. For all you know he had some kind of heart condition that "actually" caused his death. Unless that is you are stupid enough to buy into the idea that video games can kill you. I mean, they certainly can, but more like cigarettes or too much Pepsi, long and slow, not sudden. He most likely had some undiagnosed condition that an autopsy will reveal. Thanks again to the media for jumping on this one.
