"HEY EVERYBODY WE ARE REMAKING FF8!"

that would be the last thing that man says before he gets raped, killed, and square enix would get nuked off the face of the earth.

So you'd rather have a remake of FFX-2 than FFVIII?

I wouldn't want any of those.

Damn you square enix!!! just do the remake already!
I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. Oh, yes, I definately want a remake of Final Fantasy 7! Lets be clear on that. I however want it to be a good remake first and foremost! Games have been remade time and again, but few are the good remakes.

Resident Evil REmake on the gamecube was one such remake. It took everything that made the original game good, and polished that without sacraficing those qualities to newer trends. It still had some ham quality acting (but no Jill sandwiches, or master of unlockings), but it was as true to the term "remake" as ever. It, in fact, improved on the game with new areas, new monsters, and expanding the story to encompass plot points that followed in RE2, RE3, and so on. It was a remake done remarkably well.

If Nomura and his team were to return to FF7, it'd need some thought to make it good. The JRPG scene has gone through some changes, even if core concepts have not. Does Nomura make a "graphical upgraded" FF7? A Kingdom Hearts gameplay inspired FF7, or something more? Is he waiting to utilize FF7, a game that expanded the genre to new heights for (at the time) Squaresoft, something new and equally groundbreaking?

It'd be easy to cobble together some JRPG with those characters and call it a remake. The JRPG genre already does it on a constant basis (well, not calling them remakes of FF7). But to make one worthy of a giant like it is would be quite the task. I'd think it'd be daunting and intimidating, yet exciting at the same time.

I like that Nomura isn't discarding the idea. I like that he is hearing the community of fans, acknowledging us, but isn't jumping the gun. I hope that he's spending this time thinking about the remake, and when the time is right to assemble the team, he'll have something worthy to release to the fans.

I wish they would quit it with the whole teasing thing. It annoys me, quit screwing with us just tell us whether it'll happen or not.

Meh, 8 would have been better if we did a few little things. Make enemies a fixed level. By scaling up enemies with your level, it punishes you for improving yourself. RPG's should never 'encourage' the lvl 10 single character initial equipment challenge. Get rid of that stupid weapons upgrade system. Seriously, this guy wants me to pay him AND get him all the materials for my weapon upgrade? It should just be buying a new weapon. Also, the being paid periodically by SEED rank was kinda lame and could be abused with the tests very easily. Not that money really mattered too much since you were not about to spend it on new weapons or anything like that. Oh, and Ultimicia: remove her entirely. The game took a turn for the retarded when you switched to the third disc. Up until that point the storyline was decent and the game was more than playable. The game would be just so much better if it ended after saving Rinoa from the second sorceress. That was even a really cool dungeon.

Never mind that FF6 needs a 3D remake...

The only thing in that would be in a remake for me would be seeing the rather bland story played out in 1080p

You have got to be out of your mind if you want a remake of one of the greatest video games ever created. Leave it alone. The premature graphics only add to its charm. If they remade it, and changed the gameplay, then what? I'm looking forward to XIII because it is a DIFFERENT GAME, not a remake of an already well established masterpiece. This is why Tim Schafer is considered a genius in the video game industry. Each of his games are astonishingly different to the previous. We want originality, not remakes. I've already said my goodbyes to FFVII. We need to let this go. This is why Advent Children fell on its face, because the fans wanted more. Please don't remake Final Fantasy VII, PLEASE! You have KH3 to be working on.

Look, they will remake it at some point in time, some people will like it, some people will hate it, but a lot of people will buy it. It's just the smart economic thing to do. They're sitting on a gold mine but movies and crappy spinoffs won't net the income that Sqaure is looking for, it's going to take a remake to get every FF7 fan in their early and mid 20s to take out their wallets.

The tech demo is a perfect example of why I don't want a remake to happen. Look at the world of midgar! It looks almost CLEAN. Uncluttered. No sign of the desperate slum living that was evident in the original game. The cool steampunk cars are missing. The sleazy neons blighting the view.

And most importantly of all, it just looks like any big city. Plants can grow in big cities. Easily. Central park, anyone? The old Midgar gave off a sense of decay and it was obvious nothing could grow there between pollution and the reactors.

A remake would lose most of the spirit of the old game, especially considering that most of the environments (which worked at the time, like an interactive matte-painting) would no longer be the same and have to be rendered 3d. just everything would be worse.

NO REMAKE!

Square Enix is not going to remake FFVII for the simple reason that you are the terrorists in that game. Whatever qualifiers you want to add to it does not change the fact that you are still the terrorists. I will grant that Shin'Ra proves to be bigger dicks than your team. However, it still does not change the fact you blew up a reactor before you get any semblance of a plot.

Now, if they were to do remakes, I'd say remake all the PSone Final Fantasy's. Get around needless fanboy bitching about which game is better and please all of them at one go. Besides we know this is a moot point because we all know FF@#$@ had the better story, was better looking, and it had a bloody ending.

I keep hearing talks of 7, 8 and 9, yet Sakaguchi's masterpiece starring the insane clown is forgotten. Where is our FF6 REMAKE (i.e. not a port)? All the previous final fantasy titles got one on the DS and the one that deserves the most recognition only gets ports? Really?
VI was my all time favorite hands down but i almost wouldnt want to see it redone because of the whole favorite book to movie thing. LIke when you read a book you like to picture things your way but when you see the movie you cant not see how they portray characters. I like my VI just the way it is

THIS. Seriously, guys--do you really want to be charged another sixty bucks for a shinier version of a game that's been around for thirteen freaking years?

...then again, people are apparently willing to buy the latest Super Mario retread on the Wii...

eh...I want a remake of 8. It's summon oriented and with today's graphix, it'd be even cooler.
Agreed: VIII was my favorite one! It would be a great candidate for a revamp. VII is way too exposed I think.

OT: If we keep this in mind and also consider how Square-Enix says XIII may be the Final Fantasy, it could be assumed that VII won't be the only other Final Fantasy remade with updated graphics. I don't see them going in numerical order since it looks like VII is already being worked on in secret by Square-Enix's resident Moogles. I think it's going to go in order of popularity so, after a redone FFVII, we could possibly see Final Fantasy VI. Than maybe VIII. People like me who bleat for a Final Fantasy IX remake will be fed to wild Ochu and Zoloms ...

And in related news, Duke Nukem: Forever announces their release date. An insider told us "Duke Nukem Forever is being launched on the same day as Final Fantasy VII's remake." Back to you, Bob.
