It is not impossible to get working on modern hardware. It's not even difficult. This is an easy cash grab, nothing more.
I have one person saying it's impossible, one saying it isn't. Clearly, the game likes some hardware better than others.

Also, what's wrong with them re-releasing the PC version? What's inherently wrong with a cash-grab if it gets more people playing the game?
Please look up impossible.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, I said that's what it was. FF VII tends to bring out extremes in people and the words "FF VII re-release" are going to have a lot of people thinking this is something it isn't.

Impossible: Unable to be done, performed, effected, etc.

Doesn't seem unlikely to me if you have hardware the game flat-out doesn't like. As I implied before, I was unable to get my Windows version of The Incredible Machine working on my current rig. I spent days trying. I ended up buying the gog.com version, which worked.

Going to skip the English lesson. FF7 aside, for truly intractable games it's probably worth getting VMWare [http://www.vmware.com/products/player/] or a similar virtualization suite, installing Windows 98 on it, and using that. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's a lot more consistent than trying to use online fixes or waiting for a GOG re-release.

Already used virtual machines. They aren't magic, you know. It didn't fix the problem with TIM, nor did it work with a few other old, OLD games I have.

They do work for many, though.

I hope somewhere in the game text pops up saying something along the lines of "Are you happy now? Will you please stop bombarding us with e-mails and harassing us at gaming conventions? Now you can get on with your lives instead of begging us to re-do a mediocre game. Thank you."

You wouldn't need VMWare for TIM. Did you try DOSBox?

This is getting horribly off-track.

DosBox: The magic that allows GoG to sell old games.

Back on topic, what does everything think of the features being added like cloud saves and all that?

I had the Windows copy. It was released for DOS AND Windows 95.

And yeah... it is. :p

I liked cloud saving better back when it was called a memory stick. I don't think it's worth the DRM.

Even if it did, it wouldn't work.

This is not what people asked for. People asked for at the very least, for a HD upgrade. This isn't. Or a remake, where most everything is the same, the graphics are updated and maybe a few improvements to things that were broken/annoying. This isn't. Or, a re-envisioning, the same world and characters and overarching story, just done differently. This isn't. This is a port to windows 7/vista and nothing more. They didn't give the fans what they wanted, they've merely found a new way to spit in their faces while undoubtedly convincing some people to open wide and hand over their cash.

Anyone who buys this and already owns FF7 in some fashion is a huge, huge tool .

Waiting since 1997, Square!
Just curious, what are you so excited about? You obviously have already played and likely own a copy of FF7 in some fashion. So, you are excited about....................... what? Achievements? Character boost? Cloud saving? Here is an answer to those.

Who cares. Stop being bad. Get a bigger HD.

I think he meant it being on PC(which it always has been, same as FFVIII). It was just that the games didn't have the same commercial success on the PC because they were plagued with a lot of technical issues.

You drew all that from what he said? That's quite a lot of in between the lines reading.

And I'm pretty sure that's not why they had low commercial success. The internet was just coming out of its infancy and the way games are reviewed and picked apart now, isn't the way it used to be. I doubt few people "read a review" or saw that it had "technical issues" and then said "well forget that!". It probably had low success because the PS version came out first and then the PC version came out. And at the time, it required a semi powerful computer and graphics card. Which probably also kept a lot of people from buying it.

Perhaps, but it didn't need a 3d accelerator to run, the computer I played it on did not have one. It was a modest P2 350Mhz (if I remember correctly), that used the software renderer.

Can't really say I'm all that excited about this. I mean I absolutely loved this game back in the day, but really no other changes outside of a bunch of achievements? Think I'll pass, or at most wait for it to go dirt cheap from a steam sale. (Presuming it's being sold on steam anyway)

That and the JRPG section of my brain has been hard-wired to the d-pad, really can't imagine doing the old mini-games on a keyboard/mouse.

The article I read on IGN said that this would just be the original game, with the cloud saves and achievements. Character boosters aside, I doubt they'll do anything. They don't need to, really. You'll all buy it.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. *stares at his PC version* I've had this for a while. Yeah, the PC version kinda sucked compared to the PSOne version, but I have that one too. I mean... don't we all? We've ALL played Final Fantasy 7 in some form at this point, right?

But that's Square-Enix's big thing; selling you something you've already bought three times over and this time they aren't even touching this one up (higher resolution, but no where close to high def). Sounds like a waste of money to me, unless you've misplaced a copy of the game, I can't see it as being worth it when you can download the PS3 copy for cheaper. And if you're a hardcore PC gamer, why would you be excited for this game when you shun all other console games?

I guess I don't get it. But if you like giving companies money for the same game you've already played, might I suggest Madden NFL? Or maybe NCAA Football?
