No steam release? bah
I'd rather not see a Steam release for this. I'd like to be able play FF7 on my PC without needing to be online. Not that Steam is bad for that but the odd time that my internet conks out with my PC off would make me displeased.

Basically what you get is, a lvl 99 button to instantly max level, achievements, and leader boards. There are HD mods out for the original PC version so why anyone would bother with this is beyond me.
Sticking to the PSOne version.
The booster thing is probably temporary until you can get to safety.

Original PC version doesn't work well with modern PCs, and not everyone is PC savy enough to get the patches that do make it work.

I'm sure the unofficial patches/fixes are easy to install, the HD stuff may be a bit more difficult but still, the modders are doing more work than the company.

It's alright to re-release it.
Just spruce up the character models a bit, throw in that fancy tech demo opening and it'll be worth a (cheap) price.

So we'll just ignore the 1998 windows release? I think I still have the disk around somewhere.

Sensationalist headlines are one thing, but it's another to be just factually incorrect.

Well, if you want to be stupidly, factually correct, Square ENIX never released this game in 1998.

Really, why are people so fuckin hateful about this?

fans will no doubt be relieved that Square Enix have at last seen fit to give the acclaimed game a new lease of life.
What? No... Not at all. Square Enix is a company whose executives don't have an awful lot of common sense; in their own little minds, this minute effort is actually intended to reduce the clamour for a remake.

This is nothing more than "please shut up and buy the really terrible new stories we're producing these days... please buy the dreadful FF 10 HD we're planning... don't talk about FF7 any more"

Ahhh, no matter. In my world, Square died after FF9.
In my world, they died after FFVI... and FFVII was the bullet that blew their brains out. If you hated FFXIII, you only have FFVII to blame for it.
Why is VII to blame for XIII?
Because that was the direction that 7 started to take the series. Making it more about the spectacle. FMVs were possibly the worst thing that could have happened, and now we have jRPGs that are little more than interactive movies.

LOL whatever dude. Final Fantasy VI is where they really started caring about graphics and the FMV's in VII were short. VIII is where they started getting long and are you saying that XIII is bad because it has long FMV's? That is the least of it's problems. I love XIII for what it is, not what it isn't. I'll tell you what XIII isn't, it isn't FF VII.

In fact, Final Fantasy VII is almost a 3D remake of VI. The materia and esper systems are very similar, the story is very similar and so is the gameplay. So it blows my mind that you can love VI but hate VII.

Yeah I don't really care, I already have FF7 on my PS3, PSP and my phone so there is no reason I should give a damn, that and I think FF7 is horribly overrated, still a good game but not THAT good.

Bring out a 3d remake of FF6 in the style of FF4 DS and then you have peaked my interests good sir.

My question remains the same as in the last thread. Are we stuck with the same crappy MIDI soundtrack as the Eidos port, or are we going to get the OST from the PSX version?

Did the Playstation version not use MIDI?

I'm sorry, you're trying to compare the stories of 6 and 7, saying that they were very similar? You haven't actually played 6, have you? You're making that pretty obvious.
Of course I have played VI, I bought it on the SNES when it first came out. Just another evil empire story that our heros must stop before the world is destroyed. You clearly haven't played VII.

Huh. Wasn't there already a FFVII port for the PC available years ago? Oh wait, I see. It's "HD" now right? They're keeping the old outdated polygon models, but now it's in higher definition right? I may be able to get behind it if they completely redid the graphics and modernized them, but honestly the way it's been presented in the trailer just seems like a blatant cash grab driven on nostalgia. It's certainly not the PS3 tech demo that spawned all this hype in the first place.

Was it a cash grab when they released it on PSN with no updates at all?

It's not even a remake as far as I can tell, just a re-release. I'll take my PSN FFVII and be happy.
