I no longer want a remake so that's fine with me. On the other hand, get on with KH3 already!

As for Yuffie, I kind of liked her until she stole my materia...damn thief.

Kickstarter, lads, Kickstarter! Put up that project with its hundred million dollar price tag and one way or another you'll never have to shoo away the "Remake FF7!" crowd again.

Honestly, I think they should make an open world (single player) ARPG title. Konami (through From) has Dark Souls, and Capcom now has Dragon's Dogma. Time for Squeenix to come out with something. They've got plenty of properties to choose from. Final Fantasy is an obvious candidate, but there's also some more offbeat choices like Valkyrie Profile or Lufia. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a FF7 remake if they made one, but since they aren't going to, I'm willing to shut up about it if they're willing to make games I would actually enjoy.

Half-Life 3, easily. Lots of people would like to see a remake of FF7, but they are pretty quiet nowadays. Half-Life 3 on the other hand has people checking any random string of numbers they've conjured from the ether for HL3 clues simply because it the numbers are somehow connected to Valve (not even necessarily HL) over 20 corners.

Seriously, some of the Half-Life Fans are bucking fananas.
I have never played Half Life. I wonder what the big deal is? But honestly I would knife fight a pregnant hobo for a fully redone FF7. I played 13 about halfway through and hated every second of it. Won't play 13-2 or 14. I won't play another Final Fantasy until it is promised that the game won't be absolute garbage.
The original pretty much showed how to do storytelling from a first person perspective without resorting to cutscenes. The second, well, I actually consider it pretty "meh" but that could be because I didn't play it until ages after release. It had huge driving segments which turned me off, if I however do remember correctly it had a nice physics and gaphic engine for it's time which did allow for some interesting "puzzles". I haven't played the episodes because I'm not interested enough to actually pay for them.

I haven't enjoyed a FF since X. X-2 was just fail, I didn't get past the first 5-10 Hours and I've tried my best to forget those and I just couldn't connect with 12, I bought it on release, played for like 2 Hours and was so disinterested that I immediantly let me buddy borrow it and outright sold it to him 2 days later. I don't play MMOs and I don't own a console anymore, so I haven't played any of the newer ones, although I hear they are pretty shitty and I probably wouldn't enjoy them considering that I hated the battles in 12, even with what little I played of it.
Half-Life 1, 2, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Episode 1, and Episode 2 all have a ridiculous amount of cutscenes.

Just because it doesn't go into wide screen whenever a cutscene starts doesn't make it not a cutscene. Being forced to stand in place for ten minutes while you get expositioned at the entire time does not make for an engaging gameplay experience. I can say this with certainty because I fondly remembered playing the Half-Life series when it first came out, and I just went back and played through all of the games a few weeks ago.

Without the nostalgia, Half-Life is actually pretty bad. Forced vehicle sections (Which are REALLY long and occasionally glitch out, ruining that save), loads and loads of cutscenes, instances where you're forced to take minor damage to proceed (God help you if you don't have the health to survive that required fall, even though you haven't seen a health pack for the last seven waves of Combine soldiers), blah blah blah.

Square-Enix and Valve have the right idea. FF7 when remade would probably get everyone worked up into a frenzy, then they'll be disappointed by what they get; and Valve doesn't make third installments because the third installment is rarely if ever better than the other games in the series. Most of them peak at the second game.

I get the feeling that SqEnix has something against money. Maybe someone over there has a fear of drowning in all the money they'd make on a remake?

I've never understood the point of remakes for games.

I mean, of course I get that it's about money- but I'm talking about the fans that want one. Does it really change anything? Rarely do they change anything or make it any "better." If a game truly is as amazing and timeless as you say it is, why would you want beg so desperately for a company to throw some new paint on it and tell you its better now?

I can understand that visuals look dated, but that's half the fun/point of putting on the rose-tinted glasses for a few hours when cleaning out the house. Same reason I was never too excited for StarCraft II or Diablo III until I saw the differences in them. Sprites and 2D animations in their previous iterations are brilliant and charming even to this day and how "simple" they look.

Just make Kingdom Hearts 3 among others and just leave Final Fantasy alone for a few years after the FFXIII universe is wrapped up. I know the gap in dev time didn't help FF XII and FF XIII be amazing games but the FF XIII battle system had potential but for the love of god stop with the Sphere Grid/Crystarium/Licence Board crap. They are shit growth systems.

Square and Enix should have never got together and stayed apart but if they can get their shit together they might be good again.

An international release of Mother 3?

...said it wasn't a priority for Square-Enix. Rather, said Nomura, Square-Enix wanted to make new games that it hoped would equal or even surpass the titans of ages past.
And they intend to match the might of sluggers like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy III/VI by continuously making new, sleep-inducing, bland, uncharismatic FF sequels?

Good luck with that.
So another mother 3 fan, I love loved the game and the effort put into the fan translation for it however even if that game was brought over it would have to be localized.

Exactly folks, it's too much work updating one of the most beloved games ever made and thus guaranteeing themselves millions.
Obviously the money and priorities lie with time-travelling Moogles.

I like FFVII... but I'd just settle for a good game, or at least for them to make Kingdom Hearts 3... (Though if they are remaking a game, why does it have to be FFX?!)

Squenix: "Supply? Demand? lolwhut? How about some FF XIV instead?"

The really sick part is that if some fans up and did it themselves, Squenix would send lawyers to shut them down.
Wouldn't be the first time

Sometimes, when I need a good cry, I just curl up, think of what could have been, and weep.
...Wow... that looks awesome... Fuckin' Square-Enix...
i weep every-time my self.. also was this being made using the dragon quest 8 engine?? Also for those who don't know Dragon Quest V had a full ps2 remake "japan only" before the ds port.

Makes you wonder if Square Enix are specifically aiming for the position of "most retarded and incompetent games development studio" these days? Or if they just have a crippling phobia of money and success? The games they HAVE been making recently certainly seem to support this position.

Uh wasn't Strange Journey SMT 4...? I'm pretty sure it was, even if it didn't get the number on the box.

When i saw he title of this thread my mind read it as "Square-Enix Still Remaking FF7", a guy can dream can't he? To be fair i'm surprised they haven't remade all the popular old ones, that would be a very deep gold mine if they did, i know i'd buy them all (provided there was a pc version, hell id probably buy a ps3 if i really had to for them).

Nomura did reveal a little bit of trivia about Final Fantasy VII's development, however. Optional party member Yuffie Kisaragi was initially planned to be a wanted criminal instead of just a perkily annoying Materia thief, and the players would see different wanted posters for her all around the grimy metropolis of Midgar. The trick was that each poster would have a different face on it, and when you finally met Yuffie her appearance would change depending on which poster you'd last viewed.
Sounds like a pretty cool idea all things considered. Shame it never made it into the game.

I don't know why people want remakes so much. The game's still available to play and according to a quick wiki it's available for purchase on the PSN. What's stopping you from enjoying some 15 year old retro goodness? Graphics don't make the game guys!
True but it doesn't play like a modern game, so maybe people want to see improvements to its archaic systems. Also a remake would still be expected to have a significant number of additions, little tweaks, more lore and secrets for dedicated players to pick up on. I think the clamor for the remake is simply as strong as it is because there was a time when we were literally sure we were getting one.

I loved Yuffie...her Vincent and Cloud ended up being my main party.

As for the article though, it's too bad they aren't planning a remake or, re-release for FF7. I personally despised XIII and think it would be less work overall to re-make FF7 for a handheld (be it vita, 3DS, iOS or all three) then it would have been/currently is to maintain FFXI and, FFIVX servers. Then again, I have no idea what goes into maintaining an MMO's servers or what other internal work is required at all...I just dislike MMOs in general. Also, if FF7 were suddenly announced as a PSV exclusive I guarantee they would outsell the 3DS before the month is out.

where's my final fantasy VIII remake?
I can see this being done as a hilarious troll move on Square-Enix part. I look forward to them revealing game footage of that and a remake of FF9 4-1-2013. In all seriousness though, I would love to see a remake or, re-release of 8 and 9. Loved the Junction system and, how easy it was to shatter it.

^ THIS. FFXIII was just awful... XII wasn't much better... didn't bother with XI as it was an MMORPG... didn't get into IX as the chars looked too much like kids... and VIII uh... meh.

When Hope in FFXIII was whining -backstory- whatever blahdiblahdiblahOMGJUSTSHUTUP... well, pretty much for all the characters. I didn't care about ANY of them.

X was good though - well, the first one - not that "I didn't get to play with dollies as a child" sequel ... terrible voice acting aside...

I kind of MISS the old battle styles. Now everything has to be flashy/fast/combos/seemless integration... and f*ck kids as main characters... just... no.

So... what was the point again? Hmm. Oh yeah. FFVII remake would be nice - AS LONG as it's not retarded like pretty much everything after it.
