just let him audition. it doesnt mean u have to give him the part after auditioning :p

yeh im all for keeping continuity with the comics. keep spidey an awkward little white dude.

Ill live with michael clark duncan as kingpin simply because your gonna need like a white NFL offensive linesman to play him! and MCD is an actor and is that size! so yeh.

Samuel L Jackson just wears the name Nick Fury soooooo well + eye patch = win! XD

Wait, what?

He's been white for 3 movies, it's going to be really weird if he just changes race all of the sudden, it would be like casting the lead role to a Woman, it's spiderman, he's been a white male for 3 movies already.

The first two Spiderman films were amazing. I remember when 2 came out that it broke records and was THE movie to go see that summer. It was a great time for comic book fans. Spidey 3 was a bit of a letdown but it wasn't that bad.

I'm really quite pissed that they're doing this reboot to begin with. I was quite fond of the cast and world that they'd made for the movie and as someone that wasn't familiar with the web swinger anymore, it made a nice universe that helped me get reacquainted with him.

I would've preferred they either give the license to Marvel and let them stick him in their continuity and fix him then for them to just reboot EVERYTHING. When I show my kids a Superman movie, I'm going to show them the ones from 1980 something and when I want them to see the Spiderman movies, I'm gonna show them the ones from the 00's. (I also need to get a wife and then kids)

As for the character being black, that'd probably be the last straw for me. You can call me racist if you want, but thats not the case. Spiderman was a white character since the 60's or whenever he was created. He should BE a white character. Believe me, my problem is sticking to the story, and I have a very long rant similar to this on LRR which I won't rewrite here. But if you want a black superhero, then make one! I'd go and see it! We don't have many, but make a movie about one of them, or make a new one up! Don't go and completely change an existing hero. ...Gah, this whole reboot thing still just irritates the crap out of me.

Can we not leave characters they race they are in the comics. I am sick of people not choosing people that don't suit the role they are in. Also for anyone who thinks it is because he is going to be black I would be just as pissed if it was any other race or if a black super hero was being portrayed as another race eg Spiderman=White, Nick Fury=White, Green Lantern=Black, Storm=Black, Wolverine=White. Just stick with the bloody race they are supposed to be. I mean for fuck sake in some cases it changes the entire story of characters on that point why can't movies be true to comics like in Spiderman 3 they should of
shot Venom symbiote off into space instead of making it go boom(if I remember movie right).

Also while I am on this the casting of Venom in Spiderman 3 was very, very, very poor. I do like the actor but he could of put on some muscle dammit!!!
Green lantern is white. Always has been.

Plus, he's DC
[sub]that costume though, that is just wrong[/sub]

I agree with Stan Lee.
There's plenty of black heroes (Shaft!), I don't see why Spiderman should become black all of a sudden.
People who want a Persian to play the Prince of Persia I support, but Spidey has been a nerd whiter than a snowman with a bukaki fetish (thanks, Yahtzee!!!) since what, 50 or so years now?!
I agree. It would kind of take away from his character if Peter wasn't white. Does this mean they need to recast Aunt May and Uncle Ben to be black too? I really don't think this will be accepted well by the general comic book fans. People will say "Yeah, he acted well but I have always known Peter to be white. This is just weird". Then they will write 50 pages as to why it changes the character to make Peter black.

Hal Jordon = white
Alan Scott = white
John Stewart = Black

Green Lantern hasn't been one person like Spider-Man has. So Green Lantern is a bad example.

I really like Donald Glover, just give him the part...he's a thousand times better than the last guy to play spidey.
But Tobey Maguire was perfect. If anything, he was written terribly, but his sappy, pathetic emotions was perfect when lined up with the current Spider-Man
Ya, I can't honestly blame Tobey for my feeling of Meh for the movies. He was a perfect Peter Parker, right down to the ability to be a complete geek.

The only way for a black spiderman to work is if it isn't Peter Parker...

It's not even so much the color of Peter Parker's skin that is at issue, but his cultural flavor as well. There would be too much backstory rewriting should a black peter parker be cast, to make it a believable character.

Just leave classic characters alone. Yes Sam Raimi fucked the series with 3 (oh god emo spidey), but that doesn't call for a total rewrite of the character for movie release.

Leave him white. Contrary to popular belief there is nothing wrong with being white. That doesn't make me racist. That makes me a realist. And Blade being white wouldn't work either. Ugh.

A spider woman movie might be better than a reboot of spider man...

I couldn't care less what colour Spiderman was, but what made me chuckle about this is that Stan Lee had to practically justify why Spiderman was white. (the whole 'people just know Spiderman as white') - what does it even matter?

I think, even if a reboot of the movies were made, if Spiderman were black it couldn't be Peter Parker, because they'd have to change all the characters to follow suite. However, if they rebooted Spidey and had a DIFFERENT guy (not Peter Parker) then maybe it would work.

Actually about Nick Fury...

If I remember right the "Ultimate" version was always black, and made to look like a bit like Samuel L. Jackson. I really don't care though as long as it's good. Although if his uncle specializes in cooking rice then...

(I'm really hoping a Luke Cage movie gets made)
I remember hearing one was being made. I think it was going to be an Iron Fist, Luke Cage, then Heroes for Hire was what they were planning. Those may be started after Avengers or maybe same year (I doubt that, Marvel wouldn't want to have Avengers shadowing the other films).

Wasn't there a similar argument to the new prince of Persia? haven't men and women taken opposing gender roles as well? I say, who cares, let him audition for the part.

Ok I forgot Green Lanturn has changed person so that was a bad example but there has been atleast 1 black Green Lanturn which if they made a movie of I thought they might go with but it could be any of them really.

I'm Mexican. I'd never, however, want to see Peter Parker played by a Mexican. He's white in the comics, and that's the way it should be.

Uhm, isn't Peter Parker white?

I think it's a really stupid idea to change an established character's skin color.
Then you're probably pissed about Ultimate Nick Fury. I find it awful that a character who's been around for so long has his counterpart being adapted into everything instead.
I don't know how well kown Nick Fury is, but I don't think his character is that much defined by his appearance. Just like Harvey Dent in Tim Burton's Batman.

But with characters that have a very well established look, it's a huge mistake to change their skin color. Imagine if they turned B.A. into a white guy. His whole character would've been changed. The same is true for characters like Storm or Wolverine.
Nick Fury's famous for being the guy that wears and eyepatch and was based on David Hasselhoff.
Ultimate Nick Fury is based on Samuel L Jackson.

The thing people are totally ignoring here is that Marvel uses it's multiverse to create different, parallel universes with slight differences and all the previous movies have had different universes, up until Hulk and Iron Man.
I think they're wanting Spiderman to be part of that universe, and as he isn't established in it yet they do whatever they god damn want.

Since it is a reboot to the franchise...they can technically do whatever they want. But when I can't get a role on "Tyler Perry's House of Complete Garbage" because I'm white, and I complain...heads will roll...I swear to God.

Oh for shit's sake. It's not racist to not allow a black guy to play Spiderman. Spiderman is WHITE, end of!
