The space gameplay looks amazing. I don't care if it's on rails or not, it looks amazing. Suddenly I have a needing desire to buy this game.
A rail shooter is more of a "Get them before they get you"-kind of game. Think like Area 51 and similar Light gun shooters. That's what the original rebel assault was and why people were freaked out about it.ZeroMachine said:Wait, THIS is what you meant by on-rails? I thought you meant...

... come to think of it, I don't even know what I thought you meant either way I'm completely sold now. I loved Star Fox.
Well, as i said, galaxies had free world flying. It wasn't integral but you could fly around hunting down rebels, mining resources from meteors and manually fly to other planets.salinv said:You do realize the flying in TOR isn't an integral part of the game (from what I understand at least). I'm not saying they hashed it in there just for the hell of it; I mean, this is Bioware we are talking about, they tend to make quality stuff and with good reasoning and intentions. I would love to play an EVE detailed Star Wars space combat mmo, but the KotOR universe and TOR isn't built around space combat, nor should it necessarily be. I'm just glad they have something like that in there, and the fact that it resembles a game that has a spot close to many gamers' hearts.Kagim said:Why is it that galaxies could pull off some pretty sweet free world flying but a game how many years later can't...
If i want a fly forward shooter I would hop in the gummi ship for Kingdom Hearts 2. Which if the trailer is anywhere near the initial product, Kingdom Hearts seems to have done it better. Which actually sounds really sad saying it out loud then it did inside my head.
Well I'm a WoW player, about mid-range on the casual to super-hardcore scale, and with Cataclysm coming out later this year, along with DC Universe online (I'm a comic book geek too), and the Lord of the Rings MMO going free to play (yes, big Lord of the Rings fan too), I've been looking for reasons to not like this game because I can't honestly see how I'm going to have time to sleep, let alone have a life, by the time TOR rolls out next year.Rayjay06 said:I think a good way to gauge how much I like this is to see how much WoW players hate it lol.
Out of interest, do you consider it superior to the free-flight dogfighting seen in Jump to Lightspeed? Or, would you have chosen to have this system, given the option?Tom Goldman said:Unfortunately, BioWare does not pay my wage, but I'm open to a wage garnishing if the company wants (email me). The MMO is already pretty huge with the none instance railed crap, without adding the cheap theatrics...to be honest I was intrested in the MMO until they tossed in the cheap WoW like bomb run activities, yes WoW like as it has many of those rail guided flight sequences in since TBC.
Ok, it may look good but whats the cost ? A loading screen to your ship and then a tour guide flight from one site to another. I prefer less loading screens and more immersion... ok so I wont have R2D2 as a personal ***** but at least I wont be at the mercey of my HDD loading times.
I never tried SWG's system, though I am a huge fan of Tie Fighter, X-Wing, and the like. I think both systems have their places. I know from playing the old LucasArts flight sims a lot of time was spent just revolving around and around trying to get a bead on an opponent, so BioWare's system takes that kind of annoyance out of the equation.sosolidshoe said:Out of interest, do you consider it superior to the free-flight dogfighting seen in Jump to Lightspeed? That was due more to poor AI that would follow you into infinite loops. Had nothing to do with the fact that its free flight. Either way, I won't pay money for a dressed up rail shooter. I don't care how superior the rest of the game is. I'm here for the Star Wars Experience, not Bioware's Lame Star Wars Ride. Its a question of how much money do they want to make. If they want a kids game that will be popular for a couple of months then they can continue as is. If they want a long term hit, they had better put more effort into it than this. And as you say .. yes all it is, is a fun diversion. Let me know how fun it is after your 8th hour of it.Tom Goldman said:I never tried SWG's system, though I am a huge fan of Tie Fighter, X-Wing, and the like. I think both systems have their places.
