Page's results showed that two hours a day of "screen time" increased the odds for "psychological difficulties" by 60 percent over kids with less time in front of the TV.

so like everyone is covered by that i would think. 2 hours is nothing. 30 mins of tv in the morning 1 hour in some computer based class at school and 30 mins in the afternoon of coming to this site. so everyone is screwed

I wonder if perhaps kids with "psychological difficulties" (whatever that actually means) are simply more likely to watch lots of television. Correlation =/= causation.
That is pretty much my exact thoughts more or less some details. That's pretty much what the general population isn't aware of, that specific line Correlation =/= causation, and since it's not aware of it, most studies or researches can get away giving the "wanted" message simply by omitting some possibilities, then again I can't really blame them, since one full fledged study covering every possibilities would cost a lot of time, effort, and money.

Looik guys, time to start ignoring these results. If the parents can neglect the child, then they have NO excuse to blame the thing they left they're child with. If I left my child with Bleach, and She drank it,i'd blame myself, not the bleach. If a parent won't get off of his/her ass to regulate their game time, then they suire as hell won't care about this article.

True?

Your unbalanced ;D

And can they make up their minds? Last time i checked if i played games like call of duty, my Vision would be improved (or something along those lines)

And now if i play games i will get mental issues.

Eeesh!
Same here dude. Can't tell you how many car accidents I avoided using my Resistance 2 experiences in multiplayer (reacting to sudden changes quickly and efficiently).

"Kids should occasionally exercise?"

NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

Any activity done in excess will have a negative effect; even those "healthy" activities.
Sleep too much and you will (not joking) feel constantly tired.
If you keep your brain wired by playing games or using a computer, it will eventually feel the burn (I've been on a computer for far too many hours of my life. Ask any desk jockey about data management and input).

Even I go hiking/walking daily just to help with endorphin release. It helps me sleep after a day of sitting on my ass, taking notes or doing IT work.

My problem with this study is that the results seem posted in such a way as to only demonize TV/Video Game usage, which essentially equates to "DO NOT DO AT ALL".

Ok, screen time, that's great. I suppose they want to limit it to 1-hour periods. Why don't anti-gaming people try watching a 2.5-hour movie in 15-minute periods and see how that works out for them?

Anything can make anyone unbalanced depending on the person, another study talking out their ass and thinking people as a mass rather than individuals.

GeeGee, Science, Gee-Fucking-Gee.

I would like them to put the money and time they spend in these obvious studies and make one that's worth doing!

"How many parents actually talk or spend time with their children and not leave them to their video games and televisions?"

It's a bit wordy but you get the idea. It makes me laugh, parents have the power to teach their kids better choices, but no they just ***** and moan about them instead and blame video games for their obvious neglect to their kid's health. Give me a break.

Yeah, saw this article on CNN. Not too impressed, to be quite honest.

It's the typical correlation-causation issue that I'm sure many have hammered over and over enough already. Seriously, what evidence suggests that things aren't the other way around?

Usually I disagree with any studies about videogames, but this sounds pretty legitimate. I don't think we should change anything though. We can't just throw all of our technology away.

This just in!

Some parents can't parent!
Studies say same parents blame anyone but themselves!
Extra extra!
Read all about it!

Unbalanced would be finding out where you live, chopping up your dog/cat and feeding it to your kids while I slap you and your soulmate with a oversized trout for making such a ridiculous study and article.

Oops too late.

What's unbalanced? What psychological effects?

Bad study is bad. Or at least the article in reporting it. But, I'm guessing the official results used equally abstract terms. "Unbalanced" might be shoving worms up your nose, but kids are kids.

Umm, duh? Seriously, any self-aware gamer can tell you that video games aren't necessarily the best thing for you. You have to be responsible for yourself.*

okay..

so what about their families (education, jobs, money)?
What about their neiborhood? (where they live)
DO the parents take care of their kids, or leave them to these devices?
What is the questionnaire, since it is mentionned that "the possibility of inaccurate reporting by children".. why didnt they ask the parents? Or just watch them for a while to take data?
I'm curious as well. Correlation does not imply causation.

By this line of reasoning, the unprecedented rise of obesity in America can be traced to...

Since this is true across ages, I would suspect that all college students and business men are unbalanced due to the time they use doing real work on the computer.

The study was also flawed, because I'm sure that the conductor regularly spends over an hour a day aggregating data on the computer, so we can assume she's unbalanced. >_>

Still waiting on a proper:

"Study finds that most studies produce results considered desirable to those financing the research."

In the meantime I'll fork over my own candor and admit I only skimmed the OP.
