It's like wearing a buddhist swastika on your arm. Even though you know it's got nothing to do with nazis (The nazi swastika is turned the other way around) you still have to assume that some people don't know that, or realise what it is at a quick glance.

Ah yes, I know about this problem. One of my friends got a buddhist swastika painted on his forehead at a school event and then afew minutes later the schools security guard came over and said he had to wash it off because thier had been complaints he was wearing a "Swastika" (as in Nazis). Needless to say, my friend was pissed.

The thing I have always found ironic is that the Buddhist swastika means "Peace". The Nazis flipped it backward. What is the opposite of "Peace"?

History has taught me that every country has its moments of pure stupidity in its ruling class that make future generations weep in sorrow...and I'm tired of waiting for that moment to pass.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, very few moments in American politics can top what's going on now. Even McCarthyism was a shorter period of stupid. But this, this is just....why?!

At least stories about the struggles of being gay is far more substantial than multi-breast fanservice. Though I'd love to know what webcomics you've been reading to make you tired of it - on the 80-100+ webcomics I go through, I've encountered maybe... 6 that do the 'Gay challenge' while a good majority of the rest either have no relationships in them or play the gay relationship straight (then there's the 20 odd that do the 'quad-tits = victory' thing, but I don't talk much about them).

Your point about them being the reason sexism/racism/etc still continue (partially) is certainly... strange. I'd definitely question children reading these things (Unless there's a big section of webcomics aimed at children that I've missed in my adult/NSFW corner), but that's mainly because any comic I've read dealing with homosexuality has been... well, either an Adult comic or NSFW. But, onto the actual point - pointing out or commenting on an issue that no longer exists is usually a good way to suddenly make it a problem again. Sexism, racism and anti-homossexual behaviour, however, is still quite prominent, so pointing it out and commenting on it serves more to enlighten readers that it's still an issue - most comics that deal with these issues aim for the point of 'We're still people, so don't treat us like wankers'.

The grouping idea I utterly disagree with though - I grew up with a whole lot of stuff which basically said 'These people are gay/black/women/trans, here's how they struggled in the world', but it didn't teach me to treat them any differently. If the point of anything I watched while I was young was 'These guys are different and therefore less than people', then that story would be different, but the one I did experience just taught me that there is a problem in the world and that I shouldn't treat other groups as less-than-human because they're different.

I guess off the bat I will just say thanks for replying respectfully also I wasn't talking about webcomics so much (I don't read to many of them to be honest) but more media in general or as a whole.

I guess for different people it effects them differently but I know for me growing up I never really thought of people in groups. I never saw people on street as a black guy or asian guy or white guy everyone was just people. If it was relivent obviously I knew a person was black but it wasn't anymore of a feature to me than the clothes they were wearing. It wasn't until I got into school for a few years that I started getting blasted with all the anti racism/sexism etc speeches and sure it made me more aware of these things in the world but at the same time it took away my innocence in a way it forced me to look at people in these groups rather than them just being people. I have sat through so many anti prejudice speeches that I can't just relax around people all the time anymore I always have to be extra careful of what I say when the thought wouldn't have ever even occurred to me before. It doesn't help that people break out the prejudice card over the most ridiculous things sometimes.

This is what I meant by it pushes grouping. It isn't necessarily in the negative way but we really shouldn't be grouping people at all to begin with. I think it is important to have these speeches if prejudice is a common going on in your area but why break a kids innocence when nobody was even thinking like this to begin with.

I personally just feel that this is the sorta thing that will only go away when we stop grouping people together whether it be for good or negative reasons.

Also sorry if this sorta spilled over to a new issue all together they are just related because they are prevalent types of prejudice.

Employment is officially a random role of the die. I'm about to apply to my 15th job in a row since summer.

My hopes are not high. I try to walk into each application with confidence, but I have none. I just can't fake optimism at this point. No one WANTS to hire at this point, which is economic suicide. I keep seeing businesses shut down while they refuse to HIRE ANYONE.

And yes, it's entirely their fault. Most bosses are sadistic, paranoid, xenophobic and self-destructive nowadays. They operate with the behavior of a person contemplating a violent outbreak followed by suicide, rather than a job creator.

I'm fed up with not having enough money to do fun stuff, I need more hours at work, badly, I get like a week off, when I'm trying to make money to afford rent, how the fuck am I ever going to afford to buy another computer? I mean if I had a couple more days a week I'd have my phone bill payed, and half of a pc build next payday, and be gaming again in december, but that's never how it works is it?
No, I hafta wait until someone loses their job, or goes on vacation, or gets sick, and due to liking the people I work with, I don't want them to get sick or get fired, so please, christmastime come fast, so I can get a week or two with 4 days or more of work, cuz as it is, I'm only getting 1-2, maybe 3 if I'm incredibly lucky every week, at minimum wage... it doesn't pay for much.

However, that's not that bad, as I was nearly homeless due to being unemployed for 4 months, I'm damn lucky to have a job, but still, if it was a fulltime job, or even decently houred part time, I'd be able to live, not sit for 6 days with nothing to do but read shit on the escapist forum untill my eyes bleed, and wait for more work in between shifts.

Yeah, that attitude is what I'm fed up with. I've had my resumé done by professionals, written close to 40 applications in 2 weeks to different companies looking for people and 2 job interviews and no job came out of hours of work. Now that is reason on its own to get pissed, but when people on the internet who doesn't know me claim that the reason I can't get a job is because I'm lazy then I get really pissed.

In fact, if anyone's picky it's the employers. Since I've applied for positions, and been turned down, only to find the exact same position re-advertised again a short time later.
So whoever that employer is, they obviously just didn't like the selection of applicants, and decided to turn down everyone and re-advertise the position again (or that's my theory anyway).

You kind of have to see it from their point of view though. Businesses everywhere are going bust and it's getting more difficult to turn a profit in most sectors. Due to the difficult climate, employers have to go with applicants that are more likely to help their business succeed.

It's a risk to take on an employee with no experience because it takes extra time and money to train them in. A blank CV/resume also raises the question of why no one has employed you, especially as people get older. It's an unfortunate situation but employers aren't re-advertising because they didn't like the font on the applications they did get.

Take retail for example. If you hire someone with no experience, they have to start from scratch. If you hire someone with experience, you only have to show them the specifics of your company and they already know the rest. It's less hassle and the employee is likely to start making the company more money sooner.

I feel cheated by history, my granddad often told me about how he was in the resistance against the Germans, and my farther keeps going on about how he was part of all kinds of movements in his youth. and I to want some kind of story to tell to my kids other then "and then I look at some funny cat pictures"

I'm fed up of that "I have no games" feeling. Y'know what I mean. It's been a hard day, and you feel like playing a game. But what? There's a specific feeling you're looking for, and none of the games you have satisfy it. You sit there for ages, on xbox live or simply in your room, waiting for the urge to play a game to turn into an urge to play a specific game. It's really annoying when I feel like playing, say, a pirate action game, with swordplay, free roaming, and cool ship battles. That game doesn't exist, though, not on any console I have, and probably not for a long time.

This so much! Except I don't even know what type of game I want. I just know it's not the ones I have. It's so aggravating. I have a steam account with almost 50 games, plus probably another 50 boxed games. Yet not one of them interests me. First world problems.

Have you ever played Sid Meier's Pirates? It's not exactly what you described, but it's a backwards-compatible XBox 1 release, and it's pretty fun.
