I would have to say there are many underrated films out there to see that are made both major and independent studios. Here is a list of things that you may like and may not have seen:
1. The Ghost and the Darkness - A great story set in colonial Africa about man eating lions that is a horror-survival story that also has the benefit of being a true story.
2. Fido - Probably the best horror comedy of the last decade and a completely campy look at zombies and a fictional world where zombies are a part of everyday life. Its completely corny and over the top, but just awesome.
3. Zulu - A classic film that tells the tale of the Battle of Rorke's Drift, which is a battle so epically filled with tales of true bad-assery that Rambo would be considered a 'nancy boy' by these guys. Its also Michael Caine's first film if I remember correctly.
4. Outpost- An original movie about shadows of the past that still haunt Europe well over 60 years after the end of the Second World War. A great horror movie that is not just about invulnerable NAZI zombies, but really about what happens when science and evil are combined.
5. Cross of Iron- A war film set from a German perceptive on the Eastern Front after Stalingrad and Kursk just prior to the great Soviet offensive of 1944. It is a great tale about soldiers and the conflicts they have morally and ethically to a government and war they no longer believe winnable. It's an often overlooked Sam Peckinpah classic with James Coburn, David Warner, James Mason, and Maxamilian Schell.

I just made a quick glance at my movie collection and hope that these descriptions and movies are something that you have not seen. I could have kept going, but just let me know if you need a longer list of more stuff.

Monsters. It's a movie from last year. It's a good movie, just don't expect (despite the title) a typical monster movie.
loved it, also in my top 20 from last year.

The Sunshine Limited. It's a film adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy play (he wrote No Country for Old Men, for those who don't know him). Basically, a suicidal atheist professor (Tommy Lee Jones) and a very Christian old man who just stopped him fro killing himself (Samuel L. Jackson) have a long, intense, philosophical discussion about God, death, etc. They do a great job with the acting, and even though it's nothing but dialogue and the whole thing takes place in Jackson's apartment, it's still a very gripping movie. Especially the ending, with Jones' monologue and the pain it caused Jackson, it just gave me shivers... I'm gonna go watch it again. I highly suggest you do the same.

I actually watched that a few weeks ago and... I don't know.
I had heard it was great but there was just something about it I couldn't get into.

Well written and had good dialogue and I'm a huge fan of noir films but... I don't know. Something about it just didn't click. >.>

Nice to see a new take on that genre though :3
I actually loved it lol, nice pick though most people haven't seen it.

I'm looking for movies to watch that are underrated or under seen. I've seen thousands of movies, and most of the widely popular or mainstream films. Are there any films you consider to be very good that have gone under the radar?
Just remembered, "The Legend of Bagger Vance" is a very good movie that's almost unheard of. It's about a man finding himself again after Vietnam because his town needs him to play a golf match against Bobby Jones and Bob Hagan.

Glad to hear it, that film deserves more exposure.

That scene with the blind dude going "1,2,3,4" and everything matched up to it was brilliant

Trust me, it is! It's hard to explain how a movie that's nothing but dialogue can be so captivating, but it's just so powerful.

It's a made for HBO movie though (meant to mention that before), so it might be hard to find. That's the one knock against it.

Oh! The Square was amazing(and Australian).
Also, Primer is a really good sci-fi film.

I can see why people liked it and it was a very well made film but there was just something about it I didn't really like and I still can't seem to put my finger on why that is but... meh.
No big deal. It was entertaining while I watched it and Joseph Gordon Levitt was fucking awesome in it :3

Swimming with Sharks - Kevin Spacey at his most cruel, viscious, and finest.

Way of the Gun - Benicio Del Toro is simulataneously understated and over the top.

Bettlejuice - Michael Keaton is a forgotten comedic genius.

The Cube - Relatively unknown canadian thriller. It'll mess with your head a bit.

Are you serious? The Fifth Element is extremely well known unless you have been in a coma since 1996 and just woke up. I mean Star Wars basically ripped off the city design model for Coruscant. Just look at the way New York is made to look in a city from 1997 and then examine the re-released Star Wars from 1998 and Episode I in 1999. Wonder where they got all those ideas from for how the city would look. Its almost a carbon copy.

One of the most criminally underrated movies I've ever seen.
It is the Silent Hill movie that never got made. Artistic, symbolic, and really quite terrifying.

Just... Great...

Chopper. I don't hear it talked about much, but it's a great film, bloody hilarious. Not sure if you will have seen it or not, but I dont know too many people who have. I wouldnt say it was exactly an unknown film either though, but I dont really watch many indie films or whatever.

I wouldnt call chopper an independant film

Australian Films in general dont really get much of an audience, I saw a guy on TV saying the problem with our industry was distribution
