Tekken Movie Trailer Isn't Appalling

This actually looked pretty goddamned terrible. Being a fan of Tekken almost to the point of irrationality, there were so many issues I had with this that I lost count. And it's only the trailer! It's one-fourty-fifth of the entire movie!

The only thing they got right was getting Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to play Heihachi, which is not a very good match, but at least the actor himself is cool enough to make his precense a good thing.

Oh yeah, and I couldn't help but chuckle at "Law's" exclamation of, "This is Iron Fist!"

P.S. Damn them for not making Yoshi look cool.

What a bout the Hitman movie. It's wasn't the abomination that most video game movies are.Sure it wasn't great or anything. But it was worth the watch.
Never actually saw it, so I can't add it to my list.

They should have gotten Sean Connery to play Heihachi.

I would have complained that this movie doesn't follow the Tekken storyline, but then I remembered that the Tekken story makes no sense whatsoever.

How does this not look appalling?

And I persist in my opinion that Silent Hill was as close to a decent video game adaptation we've come.
Utterly devoid of the thematic substance found in the games, but it had an artistic direction which was impressive even beyond the scope of simply "for being based on a game".

Case in point;

I like it, but I'm a fan of fight movies. I enjoyed watching Bruce Lee movies, I like Chuck Norris' films, and I grew up watching things like Bloodsport and Kickboxer.

The Tekken movie is not going to be deep by any sense of the word, but from the look of the trailer, they seem to have the characters down really well, and it's just gonna be a kick ass slug-fest.

Was that "peoples Choice" kid supposed to be Jin?

Jin got new nickname then instead of "Devil", now he's "Skinny Jin"
I have to agree here, I mean the character's supposed to be built like a <url=http://www.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/jin-kazama-in-tekken-6.jpg>tank whereas he looks more like some scrawny guy who packed on a few pounds of muscle. And yes, I know they can never look exact, but they seriously need to fix his hair, I thought he was Law for most of the trailer. Also:

Until I see me a Half man Half Cheetah, I'm not seeing this.
This a thousand times. I think Armor King would be especially badass, and I don't really care which King he would play, but I'd love for <url=http://home.comcast.net/~man-of-bronze/movie/actors/DocMovieActors_files/DwayneJohnson.jpg>him to be in the movie, it would at least get him out of those kiddie films. Overall though, the trailer was ok I guess.

OH NOE! HAU DAUR THAY! THEYRR GOWING TO DISKRAES TEKKEN'S WONDERFUL STORYLINE! In all due honesty it would be HARD to make the movie's story any worse than the games. I'm guessing it will probably be really corny like the old MK movies. But at least the characters (except for Jin and Kazuya because of the hair, but hair like that would look retarded in real life anyways) and the fighting scenes look accurate to the original game, the stunts don't look half bad either. Might be entertaining to rent from blockbuster when it comes out on dvd provided you aren't looking for a cinematic masterpiece.

Seriously where the fuck is King? The Mortal Kombat movie may have been stupid as hell but at least it had all the original characters from the first game in it, same thing with the Street Fighter movie. I know this movie is going to be retarded, but I would have gone to see it if King was in it.

Oh, and honestly this isn't the first attempt at this kind of thing. I've actually seen the Tekken Anime/OAV. This actually seems lightyears better.
*twitches* Damn, I thought I'd expunged all memories of that movie from my mind.

Yeah, I don't think this looks bad at all. The characters seem rather faithful both in story and appearance. The storyline is basically that of Tekken 3 with a little more depth. The fighting looks good (not Tony Jaa good, but watchable). If you go in expecting Gone With The Wind you're going to to be disappointed, but if you're looking for a fun movie with cool characters and cool fights, it looks like this might deliver.

Dead or Alive was such fun!
Mortal Kombat is a cult classic, very close to my heart.
This? Based on the trailer I'd give it a shot to entertain me.
It's a movie about a fighting game, for god's sake, you don't take those too seriosly.

Why are games made into bad films? Simply because the studios don't think gamers are smart enough to notice a poor movie.
But...Why can't a film based on a game have interesting characters with deep motivations? It wasn't so long ago comic book heroes were portrayed without much characterisation, whereas now we expect some depth to these characters. This isn't to say we need Bowser soliloquising about how he only wanted to be loved, or Snake moaning about the proliferation of nuclear weapons (Kojima does that for us anyway with the games), but it only takes one film to add a bit...more...to the sub-genre and everyone else will have to do the same.
