Dragooons

An Archvile sketch

My own take on the cyber demon, sort of a cross between the classic one and the Doom 3 one.

I mostly work in game design myself. Though I might do some simple pixel art out of necessity to realize my prototypes...

Great Pixel art, very smooth and polished. Of course, coming from someone who never drew more than a house and stick people out of pixels that might not mean much.

I do like the sketches as well. Very interesting subjects, they all catch the eye very well.

I tried my hand at something a little different, I mean I had to use my sketchbook for something right?

It's in no way perfect, but I'm so rusty at traditional mediums...

The absence of Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+S are such pains like that. Looks good none the less.

It's a beautiful day. I'm going to waste it by spending it inside drawing!
Here's a self portrait I've been working on on and off for the last while. I'm tentatively calling it done.

That's quite the self portrait. Very emotional and striking, but I'm not personally a fan of it. I don't know what your motivation or intent was but, truthfully, it makes me wonder if you're really 60 years old.

This is why I don't like giving criticisms. I feel like a douche if they aren't mostly praise.

Don't ever feel like a douche if you believe your criticism is to be true. Sometimes you aren't a fan of things. It doesn't matter if it's well-rendered or gets a concept across sometimes you just don't like someone's art. That's fine, man, and I take no offense that. If you had insulted without giving any reasoning I might be a little annoyed, but you didn't do that so never feel bad about that.

If you'd like to know intent, there isn't a whole lot, I had a photograph of myself and I wanted to render it as well as I could as practice at digital painting. I chose the image because I thought the photograph conveyed a sense of wonder, and I hate the regular 3/4 view of most portraits so I liked the idea that it would be mostly in profile and looking upwards. There's nothing really intended. As for the 60 years old comment, that would be likely because of the texture brushes I used and the darkness of specific lines I would assume, but 60 is a bit old if you're going on that. A 60 year-old would have wrinkles on the sides of their eyes and a few more lines under the eyes. Maybe 40 or so, I could see. But I refuse to believe that the texture brushes are a bad call, that texture is very present in most people's skin. Yes, there are areas I have to improve, I'm still a student.

Well, for the purpose of experimenting I can see your point. I've never tried texture brushes (I don't have a pen-and-tablet either, mind you) but it does look good. I do like to try out new tools with a composition.

My reasoning did have to do with the darkness, and the weight on the cheeks and jaw and around the eyes. You've done it so that he skin appears very weathered and dry, especially around the lips. I'm not saying that the texture is a bad thing, but for a younger face I might suggest more moderation.

On the cheek and jaw, yes it's too dark. On the eyes, a combination of the shadow cast by the hat, the actual sunken level of my eyes and the fact that eyes (mine in particular) have a blueish tint to the skin around it, that's actually pretty accurate to my eyes. In terms of moderating the texture it's actually a case of moderating it less. If the texture was more even over the entire thing it'd be less noticed, as it is it is anomolous and stands out to make that part of the skin look more weathered.

Since it includes literature, this is my deviantART page: http://riobux.deviantart.com/ . There's some stories there that I've done within the past few months although I'm currently on a hiatus until further notice. Although I am considering writing a non-fiction story about my experiences with religion.

So I've picked up Warhammer 40k, playing Eldar. Here are my first attempts at model painting. They're not finished yet, I'll include more pictures when they are.

It's Cody Avvers (Lady Cadaver) Y'know that somewhat cute zombie girl I draw sometimes.

Swamp Girl, a new addition to the super heroine roster of the Lady Cadaver universe.

Elle Saunders, The leading female from PTG (Playing The Game) my weekly comic series (which is on hiatus at the moment).

Don't mean to bother you, but how do you approach drawing pixel art? Could you explain it to me? Do you draw it pixel by pixel or is there a program that converts images. I'm just curious, how long would these take?

....Good Emperor, this is your FIRST time? I've been into 40k since I was 7 and I'm not even that good! Well done.

Hmmm, sorry guys, I'm rather self conscience about my art, maybe if I get better I'll post more up.

To be fair I painted an Ultramarine once while I was in Melbourne, and being an artist helps.
