Well I was mostly playing educational games on my computer...
Hmmm..

I'd have to say, Black and White? I know alot of people will disagree with me and its probably not actually my first...but...

I liked having power and training my creature. I was, however, terrible at village management. And population control.

EDIT:
Oh man, I totally forgot about the Humongous games!
God I loved those...
Why did I forget? Why?

Spy Fox... Putt Putt... Freddy Fish... WHY DID I FORGET YOUUUUUUU??!!!

Oldest of the lot for being the first really good one, was probably Ultima 6. Ultima 7 P1 & P2 is good as well but 8 was a control nightmare the series started to die off there. Other noteables are Ascendancy, Atrain, BadBlood, Cyber Empires, Darklands, Detroit, Dune 1&2, Lemmings, Master of Magic, Master of Orion, Oregon Trail, Savage Empire, Star Control 2(Now Open source Ur-Quan Masters), TIM 2 (already mentioned), Warlords any of them (Pain in the ass to control but fun), and Xenocide because I used to play that on a friends machine. I'm sure there are others but thats all I can think of right now.

Doom. Definitely Doom. And I couldn't stop playing the port of Xenon as well, when that first came out (don't know if that counts).

My first "good" games would have to be Captain Comic and Rogue. I remember playing those at seven or so.

Yay. My friend's dad still has his set up in his basement, and when our families occasionally get together when everyone's in town, we'll go down there and fire up Repton or Jetpac.

As for myself, I'm sure I'm not thinking of half the stuff I should remember, but what does come to mind is Zork and Rogue.

Wow. I did not expect to be ninja'd on Rogue, of all things.

Damn, beaten to what I was gonna say. Rollercoaster Tycoon is so addicting. I haven't played RT3 but I hear that the first one is still better.

Besides Doom, which was basically the first PC game I -ever- got to play, Gateway 2: Homeworld would have to be my pick. I really enjoyed it, because of how different it seemed to be, to me, from Doom and of course the console games I had previously played. I wouldn't mind playing it again, now :p.

When I was young I had a ton of the old (good) lego games: Racers, Island, Chess, Alpha Team... oh, and Quake, had that, too.

The very first game I can remember was an implementation of Nim on a Microbee computer. It's a simple-enough game and I taught it to some of my fellow classmates in secondary school. We'd play it on paper whenever the maths teacher was late to class.

Games which were actually more along the lines of what one would think upon hearing the word "game" would include Captain Comic (hard as hell, that one), Scorched Earth (with edited tank talk files to add new lines), Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, Jill Of The Jungle, Wolfenstien 3D, Major Stryker, Crystal Caves, One Must Fall, Jazz Jackrabbit, Tyrian. Hell, pretty-much everything put out by Apogee, Epic, and ID.

Commander Keen! I had episodes 1, 2 and 4 (I think) on my 386. The first PC game I got totally hooked on though was the classic X-Wing. :)
