._. Well it may just be in my area then.
I met one person who is homosexual, and he's an awesome dude, and all.
But it just seems like I met people who are homosexuals just seem a little snobby to me.
But this is just in my experience, and I have also read some stuff on the news that make them seem a little disrespectful.
Because news articles are never biased or written with the express intent of stirring up controversy. You know what won't ever make the news? "Gay couple live life without incident, bake cookies for neighbor". Never going to sell a paper with stories like that.
Except possibly the more rabidly right-wing tabloids.

"Gay couple bake cookies for neighbour, IS NEIGHBOUR AT RISK OF AIDS?!"

Obnoxiousness and bigotry is not a gay thing, obviously. I believe that the only reason one would act so flamboyantly and asshole-y is if they were oppressed through their childhood and teenage years and when adulthood hit, they became free of the oppression of others. Too bad they immediately fell right under the oppression of their own ego >.<

Okay guys.

Actual poof here :p lol.

I think some of you are being pretty hard on the OP, as I don't feel like his reaction was born of homophobia or ignorance or generalization.
I think it came quite simply from complete misunderstanding.

There is a very good chance that the gay person (who was clearly on his friends list) he is talking about was most likely posting those comments about straight people in an ironic sense (albeit in an insulting way), in that we gay folk are subjected to that kind of hate and ignorance on pretty much a daily basis.

Gay people spread AIDS.
Gay people are whores.
Gay people fuck children.
Gay people are disgusting.

And so on.

And wanting to believe the best in people like I usually do, I am willing to believe that this gay was probably exposed to that kind of ignorant behaviour that day and posted a vitriolic response on FB. To which the OP misunderstood, thinking the person serious, and took offense. And thus posted a very understandable (if incorrect) response to the person on FB and on here also, but being angry he hasn't communicated himself very well and thus come off like a homophobic idiot when he didn't mean to.

I will use an example from my own life to illustrate what I mean.

When I was younger my best friend (female) slept with my boyfriend (the bf I had at the time) and I found out about it. And responding out of sheer anger, humiliation, and hurt I said some pretty horrible things to her (and others) about her and about women in general. Comments about traitorous scarlet women, fucking bisexuals being unable to make up their minds, and rancid fish. And so on.

Now did that make me an ignorant woman hating, bisexual denying mysoginist?

No. It made me angry and hurt and saying profoundly stupid things because I was angry and hurt.

Just like the OP is most likely not a homophobic ignoramous, but instead was reacting out of anger and hurt towards someone he most likely at the very least considered an acquiantence being horrible about straight folk (like him).

I am not saying his response was correct, or excusable. Just that it was understandable given the circumstances.

Douches are in every group. And the douches be douchin'. Because they're douches.

It's fairly obvious when you think about it.

I know quite a lot of people who like to fuck the opposite sex who are like that too. Your point?

Hmm...bit late to post...anything, but yeah. OP is displaying an obvious bias against a group, due to or rationalised as due to the behaviour of certain select members of it.

I also never said everyone. I said majority, and in my experiences.
I don't meet someone, and pre-judge them. I just judge on how they talk/act.
I hate everyone equally when I first see them until they start talking, and then I really decide if I shall continue hating them, or if I should like them.

o.e and again. This is all in my experience, and what I see. It's not my fault. >.> Maybe I should get out of my state?
Greets!

I've quoted this particular posting by you, my good original poster, because of a specific little line that I shall further quote for you:

"It's not my fault. >.> " -Valen_Starwalker.

Your OP can be interpreted as misinformed, generalising or offensive based on the outlook and personal experiences of the individual looking over your opinions, but this little quote of your own words I have put before you crosses the line into bigotry. Stating that the way you feel about the 'Gay Community' is not your fault is taking the nexus of responsability for the way you feel and act towards them, out of your hands and presumably into theirs. Thankfully, even though you have asked us if the 'Gay Community' should grow up, you havn't outright insinuated that the community should grow up. That shows a difference between your opinion and that of a true bigot, in my opinion.

Assuming how you feel is not your responsability is a rough road to tread, however, as it will invalidate your feelings in the eyes of others if you not prepared to stand by your own opinions and permit your feelings to change. You've stated that you are attaching your opinion to the 'majority' of the 'Gay Community' but that will not be enough for those who your opinion hurts.

Actual bigots who feed on your opinion, in one way or another, will definately pick on this. Then you'll also get the white knights trying to save the gay from the 'horrid personal oppression' contained in your opinions. Finally, you'll get the trolls, who'll gleefully turn you into an anti-gay bigot.

All exist in this forum, so tread lightly.

My thoughts on the 'Gay Community'? I've met a few people who were gay, both men and women. I got hit on once by a guy, but I was not interested in him, so I gently let him down and treated him to a friendly brofist. Being rejected by anyone for anything is a hard experience for anyone, I believe. Otherwise, I do not notice any specific gay communities where I live, but then I tend to stay out of any such communities. Not my sort of thing, even if the individuals that make the community are nice people.

After seeing that this thread had gone on to two pages, I knew everything I wanted to say to the OP will have already been said. Every group has its pricks, you just need to find the nice guys in it.

You may like this article [http://www.beatricebiologist.com/2012/02/biology-doesnt-support-gay-marriage.html] I read a while back. It basically argues that banning same-sex marriage based on gender is stupid as gender is so loosely defined anyway.

As a gay guy myself, there are many aspects of the gay community I loathe, and I'm sure there are many douchebags within it. But I always make sure to remember that a few jerks don't say much about the majority. If it did, I wouldn't want anything to do with people in general.

the gays mr. starwalker met were probably just a minority amongst gay people. he just had the bad luck to meet a couple of not very nice/ rather childish ones.

"OK, so I was hanging out on Facebook the other day and some guy posted a generalizing, slightly offensive statement about straight people. Now I found that to be rude and another friend of mine said something that annoyed me too. Both happened to be homosexuals so I have come to the conclusion that the entire gay community are generalizing idiots".

Honestly, you are generalizing. I don't really know many homosexuals, but saying they should all grow up and stop generalizing puts you among the nominees for the hypocrite award. Sadly I have had to nominate a lot of people lately so your chances of winning might not be as big as you're hoping.

Yes, I am aware you specified that this doesn't go for everyone, but if you claim you have encountered the majority rather than the loud, outspoken minority I am going to assume you're a liar.

No vault, he's right.

*sigh*

I hate to be the one to break the silence, but someone has to say it.

We at the LGBT collective behave in one specific way. It is our goal to make asses of ourselves and run around offending heterosexuals by existing, or saying words like "breeders."

I've said too much. If you want to know about assimilation techniques, meet me at the cracked oak at midnight and make sure to hoot like an owl three times before approachign. THEY are everywhere.

>.>

But seriously, one of the first things this thread makes me think of is how heterosexuals will often justify words like "fag" but get in a tizzy over "breeder."

In this case, we've got a guy who thinks that it's wrong to say that heterosexual parents are more likely to abuse their kids, even "if it's true. Spoilers: it is. LGBT parents are frequently accused of being pedophiles, teaching the gay, etc., which is not true, but stating something that is true is rude and horrible. The poster condones attacks on gays, but it's funny how fast the non-"gay community" people will get offended at the same sort of treatment we get.

My girlfriend was talking about a Youtube video the other day, where one person used the word "womankind" instead of mankind, and the community collectively lost their shit over it. When the roles are reversed, women are told to deal with it or get over it. This strikes me as the same sort of behaviour. I'm betting a lot of people who will talk about gays in generalised terms in this thread and how mean they are to the hetero population will be the same people who tell us to "get over it" when we're discriminated against.

I find that most people tend to be jerks, even if not actively so. Gay, straight, bi, or otherwise....

This is probably why I DON'T want anything to do with people in general. >.>

Most people are stupid, or say/do stupid things. That doesn't change with what makes your naughty bits tingle. Maybe you just surround yourself with idiots who have to grow up?

In my experiences, the majority of the gay community are computer game geeks and socially awkward. And blonde.
People have already made this point, really, but it does depend on the circles you mix in. Of course, most of the people I know in general are computer game geeks and socially awkward, but it does mean there's probably this whole host of other kinds of gay (and straight and bi!) people I've never personally met.

It would be especially interesting if it turns out that the OP's anger was, in fact, directed at an ironic point that they simply didn't get. I've seen similar things, like 'Let's ban straight marriage because straight people keep getting divorces and it's ruining the sanctity of marriage!' That one's irony is particularly obvious, but others may be more subtle.

But then just like there are black people who hate white people or women who hate men, there are some gay people who hate straight people, it's simply a backlash of being oppressed. Not a good or healthy one but it does happen with some people. OP, I don't suppose you could post the picture that your friend put on Facebook? Would be interesting to see what it said, exactly.

The thing about it is he isn't wrong about the more negative aspects of the gay community, and gay people "in general". At least he isn't flinging around baseless generic and stereotypical insults about gay folk, even if he is wrongly applying it lol.

Captcha: "is it plugged in?"

Oh naught captcha! hehe.

Your description fits perfectly the vocal minority
(who are often bunch of ignorant and stereotypical assholes)
For example LGBT prides
Plenty of homosexual and bisexual people I know do not attend them not because they are afraid from society or something
(most of those I know don't hide their sexual preferences)
But because they considers them demeaning, humiliating and misinforming
Because whenever anyone learns about their sexual preferences they associate my friends with those "clowns" (not my word)
Those prides are stereotypical and insulting to everyone

Not a perfect comparison, but it is if like Million Man March consisted mostly of dressed as gangstas, fried chicken nomming, weed smoking ex-convicts with huge dicks (I think I mention all of stereotypes, but feel free to correct me)

And for some reason this is common practice for LGBT prides :/

Ding ding!

We have a winner!

This is me. I despise Gay Pride events.

I saw a "porn" clip online recently at a pride event in San Francisco (or LA not sure which) where they filmed the "stars" - four of them - having full bareback bdsm sex in the middle of the street surrounded by spectators shouting things like "yeh! **** him good!" and whatnot.

I found it horrifying.

Not that I have a problem with porn, or sex, or even voyuerism/exhibitionism (in fact I like all of those things lol) but to me it just said to people "hey all those insulting stereotypical things you gaybash us for? yeh they are so true! bash away!"

Eugh.

This problem has occurred because your friends are cunts and not actually anything to do with the Gay Community.
