Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. I think this sums it up.
This. I absolutely loved the first two games, but seeing that game was just saddening. It's like they forgot what the series was.

Saw 2: Flesh and Blood. Just... Terrible. Tried and failed to be Heavy Rain.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel. I hated it, and this is coming from a guy who liked Kane & Lynch.

Mass Effect 2. The gameplay was pretty good, but the characters...

Definitely MW2.

Such a disappointment from call of duty 4

the imbalances were painful

and then the hackers got a hold of it, and it went to all hell.

Resident Evil 4 was bad enough to deserve mention, that's not fair to the equally craptastic 5.

*waits for obligatory DA2 comments, despite not being on the list and despite it being a fantastic game in and of itself*
RE4 was a great game, one of the best of all time. Dragon Age 2 was far to bland and repetitive to be a fantastic game. Resident Evil 5 wasn't all that bad either. IT's easily one of the best co-op games ever made.

While some sequels aren't as good as their original game most aren't bad. But Devil May Cry 2 was honestly a bad game. Rarely does a sequel disappoint me so.

DA2, oh let me count the ways:

1. Made a few lovely improvements to the class system by giving warriors and rogues lots of cool things they can do so there's actually a reason to use characters other than mages... Then completely removed the need for it by making combat based around fighting waves of hundreds of enemies who die in one hit so just smacking them with your weapon is just as effective as using your cool new abilities.

2. Introduced a fantastic new setting with a very detailed and mysterious backstory... Then negated it by making the entire game take place on the same three screens over and over again. You'll have seen everything there is to see in the free marches (or at least the parts DA2 lets you visit) within the first 3-4 hours of the game.

3. Had a lot of potential in exploring possible storylines and conflicts that could happen in the world of Thedas outside of the Blights... then wasted it by making the story a giant disconnected mess. The only real reason you're ever really given for doing anything (outside of the companion questlines) is that it's marked "Main Quest" in your journal so you have to do it in order to proceed.

Seriously the game feels like it was released 2 years too early. It's packed with good ideas that weren't allowed to shine through because the developers were obviously rushed to push it out the door as fast as possible.

Since the usual suspects have been identified, I'll do something shocking and say GTA IV. It was boring beyond human comprehension.
That's not really surprising, its your opinion.

on an unrelated note, welcome to The Escapist, glad you don't spaz out with your comments like most of our new brethren; also, love your name.

Blood II (which I'm playing now) isn't dissapointing in the voice acting, story or atmosphere categories (Caleb is as funny and awesome as ever), but the gameplay... AAAAUGH, THE GAMEPLAY. It goes beyond the fun challenge of Blood and into pure cheapness. I noticed that if you play with God mode on, it becomes much easier to admire the games true strong areas. Normally, I would feel shameful for using cheats to finish a game, but anyone who has played it would probably agree that finishing the game without cheats is like trying to play Bach's Brandenburg concertero no.3 with one foot.
Seriously, enemies can stand direct hits from napalm cannons, and are so accurate with their attacks that they could hit you inbetween the eyes with a thrown pencil from 60 yards away.

*Puts of flame shield* Mass Effect 2.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Actually I suppose I can't criticize you (even thought that is one of my favorite games ever) because the game I picked is also quite widely loved.
OT: Starcraft 2. Sorry, I just don't see what sets this apart from any other RTS and the story was really disappointing for me. And don't say it's more balanced. They are constantly updating the game by buffing and nerfing units.

Far Cry 2 I agree with completely. It had so much going for it, it should have been great. Far more mediocre than I would have expected from something that looked so good in the build up.

And MW2. I'm not a fan of the CoD series as it is, and only it's fans seem to see it. They all look, play and feel exactly the same to me. I've tried them all to date and haven't managed to like a single one it just feels like if you've played one CoD game then you've played them all.

F.E.A.R 2, how could something so good have a sequel so bad....
Alright, screw what I said a few posts ago.
Replacing the scariest part of a good game is bad enough, but replacing it with a few shots of full frontal nudity and still expecting you to be scared is just sad.
It's like if you were playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent with all the monsters replaced with porn stars.

Fable III. *sigh* Given a set character to run around the villages delivering flowers and hooking people up. Sorely disappointing, I loved II to bits.

Devil May Cry 2 was the worst sequel ever made, fact of life.
After playing the first game everyone was prepped and buzzed. The coverage in GamesMaster made the game look amazing, bosses especially.
Then you play the game and just... just weep. Frantically.

Also, DA2. Woo.

I agree with Andaxay, Fable III was a big let down. However, Fable II wasn't that great either. I liked the first one the most; progressively, the sequel is getting worse with every release. I starting to think Peter secretly wants to turn the Fable franchise into a Sims game...
