Having 2 more triggers would be nice too, now that I think about it...
Unless they rebuild the whole thing from scratch to accommodate it, there's absolutely no way I could imagine it working. Just holding my PSP and pretending what it's like to have extra triggers is just inconceivable to me.
Pretty sure they're rebuilding it to include a slide screen, no UMD and a second nub, so throwing two triggers on to match up with their controllers would be a nice touch.

Its good to see the Escapist has kept its standards on news and is continuing to talk about groundless rumours, since its worked so well [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/86834] before. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/87887]
This is one of those too often quoted from too many sources that it's most likely true in some form or another.

Combined with the move away from UMD and towards Downloaded games to fight places like Gamestop, and the talk of adding a second analog (which is what they should have had from the beginning...idiots)...well, it kind of points to a PSP2 pretty obviously. The only question is how soon.
Too often quoted to be false...you mean like Obama being a Muslim, or Metal Gear Solid 4 going to the 360?

Stupid rumours pop up from different sources cause different sources originally hear it from the same person, or make it up entirely.

The Digital Distribution only thing is a likelihood, but thats the only part that has any real validity.
Except going DD only means that a new PSP without a UMD slot is not only logical, it is extremely likely. So yes, even though it's still a rumor at this point, it's a pretty strong one, and one that I don't doubt.

but... i hate digital distribution...

oh and when this comes out there'll be a flurry of 'hip youngsters' wanting to be with the times and join in the hate on UMD and have the latest and trendiest console, so in the weeks following the (supposed) launch of this, expect a shedload of dirt cheap UMD format games.

This could be good but I do think I would like another analog nub and if they're going to take out the umd we're going to need more than 8-16 GB of space.
That and they're going to have to give early adaptors ways of downloading games they bought the UMD of. As much as I like them, I''m not buying Locorocos, GTAs, and everything else I like all over again. If they can't pull that off, I wont be picking this up for a while.

they like JUST released the psp-3000 maybe 5 months ago, maybe a touch screen would be useful (after all when typing things and pressing select till it gives me a QWERTY keyboard it would be a lot faster to use my fingers) but i dont like drastic machine upgrades, it means you cant get by with older models for newer things like the psp-1000 and 2000 are still fine for playing games as the 3000 is, but if a touch screen or extra buttons come in all the old ones will be obselete and unless htey give a FREE trade in not just trade in old model and get the new one lower priced they are still money grubbing >.>

Now, "PSP2" would seem like a logical choice for a name, but Sony apparently seems to think that numbers are totally for squares. Instead of PSP2, 1UP ventures that Sony will be opting for the more spunky PSP Go!, though they say PSP Slide and PSP Flip were also tossed around.

the PSP Go directly to FAIL! do not pass Nintendo. Do not collect my $200.
And your reasoning for this is?

Apparently Sony are developing 8GB and 16GB Memory Sticks, and they'll use the same format as the current PSP does, so even the PSP-1000 will work with the new way games'll be released. It's why there has been a huge burst of PSP games for download on the PS Store.

The typical Nintendo fanboi reasoning, we sell more units than you do Sony, we still sell DSi and Wii like candies to the masses. "Lulz"

Even though the games are mostly shovelware (I can name a total of 12 good DS games that I've played) and the consoles are more gimmicky than...well...nothing really.

dont get me wrong i love the psp i have now (darth vader white 2000). but not supporting backwards compatibility is what killed me and most of my friends from wanting a PS3. offering PSP1 games for download sounds like its fixing the problem but you know they are going to charge full price for those games and the good ones like God of War and Crisis Core wont be out untill much later than launch.

Megacherv is right. If anything, Nintendo has been ripping off Sony for the longest time.

Of course, the Nintendo fanboys are too blind to see it.

Because if I remember correctly, they all complained how the PSP had so many features that didn't actually correlate to gaming.

Now the DSi gets them all and they praise it as a breakthrough. Hypocrites much?
who the hell has praised it as a breakthrough?? All I hear about the DSi from people with a DS is that it is a useless upgrade, losing the Advance functionality, and so not worth the money. nowhere I have been has anyone claimed that having a camera or picture editor has been a breakthrough.

That's a relief to hear, Super Smash.

On both the DSi and PSP, I never really got much out of the other functions. I just wanted it for gaming. And I'm glad the PSP and old DS delivered.

Anyway, my expectations for the PSP2 are:

A second analog nub
Some way to store data you download
Maybe a better battery life
Hopefully UMD compatible

That's pretty much it. I already own a PSP, and I'm happy with it, but if they manage to make the PSP2 worth it, then I'll trade in.

First of all, God of War is a PS2 game, second of all the recent ones are backwards compatible I believe.
well your right on one account. yes God of War is a PS2 game. Good observation! but there is a PSP God of War game called God of War: Chains of Olympus. you should have been able to put 2 and 2 together on that one, or do I need to spell out Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for you to get that one too. Also if the claims of ditching the UMD format on the new PSP are accurate, how are the recent games going to be backward compatible? Where will they go if there is no UMD port? The newer games will be just as worthless as the old ones on the PSP2.
