Reduced text size, tried to stuff even more into the home page, the site is even slower than it was before. Seriously it took 3 minutes to load the home page and 7 minutes to load this page something is VERY VERY wrong and I'm on a 30mbs/15mbs connection here. The site went from viewable to a cluttered slow mess.

I really find it amazing this got past the concept stage, actually DID this go through the any sort of concept stage?
Gotta agree, it looks like an artist (that's either new to website design or isn't active in that field at all) had a field day with maximum creative freedom and no betatesting whatsoever. The lack of structure (because that totally makes everything so ~light and sleek~) makes everything look so cluttered.

I'm usually in favor of "less is more", but this went over the top. And I prefer the new YouTube design with the exception of the mainpage!
Yeah I'm not against new, I actually liked the new facebook and youtube (agreeing with the main page thing the last one was better with subs all in one line) but this is just....unorganized awful.

As a webmaster, this site burns my eyes, as a webviewer it makes me angry because of the clutter.

I'm having a lot of problems with certain texts since the redesign; the letters sometimes overlap, but only do it haphazardly. It seems only to happen when they're italicised or bolded or something like that, but it may happen to only a few of the letters in a word, or the whole word itself. It's weird. I took a picture [http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/8324/escapistsite.png] of it if my explanation is insufficient. Does anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: also, I don't think I'd enjoy waiting about 3 minutes for every page to load. I sort of let it fly when I checked out the new design a couple of days ago, as I assumed it was something that was going to ironed out by the time the new design was rolled out. On top of that, some pages refuse to load altogether. Again, it's haphazard. There are still lots of bugs, so I don't see why the new design is being rolled out now.

For those of you getting your retinas fried by all the white, I'm going to repeat what I said over in the off-topic forum:

Those of you running Firefox can install the NoSquint [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/] add-on, which lets you set your own colors for background, text, and links. Just right-click on the page you want to change settings for, and you'll get a menu that lets you set everything.

I've got it installed right now, and the background is a nice soothing dark gray with white text. Ahhhh.

When I got a Beta preview of it, my first act was to change it back. I can't do that anymore, can I?

You know... maybe there is a world-wide conspiracy to make everything homogenized and sterile. I've been talking about this for a while, and I've seen a few interesting points made. Like this whole "Web 2.0 Sleek and Sterile" thing is appalling. It's ugly. It's one-part cheap design for iPhone addicts, one-part sterile and one-part colorless, and it's taking over the web like an unwanted bright-white blizzard.

Like, whats the point here, what am I missing. It's like an office building. It's like a hospital. It's like every car looking the same on the market. It's like Facebook, as previously said.

What's going on here?!?!

This is what I get when I open the front page.

And yes, I did just learn how to make a screenshot for the sole purpose of this. Come on.

Just about everyone in Pub Club complained about how disgustingly bright this white background is. Comments were made that it would be toned down. And now here it is, in my face again, blinding me. Thanks for looking into that issue like you told us you would. *thumbs up*

At least I can do this *clicks Pub Club exclusive "Old Site" link*.

EDIT: Oh nice. The "Old Site" link is broken. So let me just say thanks again for asking us all for our feedback and swiftly ignoring it all to launch the site despite the near universal complaints about the background and the numerous complaints about the front page layout. Next time this site asks for feedback, I'll be the one doing the ignoring.

All this small black text on bright white background is going to take time to get used to. I don't recall it being like this, is it brighter, is the text smaller?
Slow as arse but I guess that will go away, right?
Where's my profile picture anyway?
I dislike change.

Ehh. On my PS3, it feels even more jumbled. I understand change. Hell, I sometimes have no choice to accept it. But I live in a small town where the local computers still run on XP with the processing power of a Texas Instruments graphing calculator. My PS3 runs most websites well enough. That is until a change happens with the sites coding. I can't even get onto my Yahoo account anymore because of the new website design. And don't even get me started on Youtube.

All I'm saying is that I don't want to get the cold shoulder when it comes to revamps of a website. It's unfair to people like me who have relatively no choice but to use their PS3 for internet.

Holy shit, I thought I would get used to it, but I really fucking hate this design. It's trying way too fucking hard to look modern and cool. Everytime time man, I look at it and I hate. I hate to sound like a drama queen, but this may tip me over the edge to leaving this place forever.

I like the look of the new design, but some of the functions are taking longer to get used to than I hoped.

Like: The color scheme; most of the layout; the top banner; whitespace

Dislike: Whatever the hell that is on the top left; the recent news posts on the front page are limited to the latest four posts; that arbitrary scrolling marquee junk in the middle of the page

But yeah, for the most part I don't mind this.

I would love for there to be a bit of color (Perhaps a gradient from the old blue to white) instead of the stark white sides of the page but other than that I can like this.

I understand that this is a private site and that I am a guest. However, with all due respect...

I don't think this layout is good for a forum. It's just way too bright and feels very empty. To be honest, it reminds me of a tech support website. My other gripe is that all of the content displays feel very haphazard now. What's important? What can I safely ignore? Everything is just sort of thrown together in a great big pile.

Maybe this is just knee-jerk reaction, but I must say that I was really fond of the old layout. It was easy on the eyes and very easy to navigate. I think it is one of the primary reasons I chose to spend a lot of time in the forums, rather than just stopping by for videos once or twice a week.

No issues with me as the slowness is just the Escapist being the Escapist and I've learned where most the stuff is now, although Themis owes me a new pair of retinas.

Dear god, that's one hell of a bright back-ground.[footnote]Repetition helps drive the point home.[/footnote]

Really hate this new design, everything is spread out from each other. Liked the old setup where everything came up on one spot and you could look at specific areas as needed. Plus that white really starts to hurt the eyes quickly.

Really? I've seen most people just calmly saying they aren't pleased with it, not raging...

Prepare to notice a drop of new visitors staying. Colours are still too hard on the eyes. The footer literally gives me a headache from a quick glance. You are attempting to fix something that was never broken, something a lot of your reviewers say you shouldn't do. Especially when you make it worse. Home page is still a mess as well however I can deal with that more now that I can read without getting a headache on it (only the footer is bad for me now).
