Just about everyone in Pub Club complained about how disgustingly bright this white background is. Comments were made that it would be toned down. And now here it is, in my face again, blinding me. Thanks for looking into that issue like you told us you would. *thumbs up*

EDIT: Oh nice. The "Old Site" link is broken. So let me just say thanks again for asking us all for our feedback and swiftly ignoring it all to launch the site despite the near universal complaints about the background and the numerous complaints about the front page layout. Next time this site asks for feedback, I'll be the one doing the ignoring.

I agree with what someone else said... this now looks like its trying to hard to be facebook. I'm honestly not really a fan of this new look. Some of the layout changes I think are interesting but I liked how easy and straightforward things were to find now. I hate this new focus on "trending" display.

Basically Trending display is a design manipulation to bring what the website wants you to focus on first and foremost to the front of the page and makes archived materials harder to find.

In other words the escapist is now pushing us to view media which generates them the most revenue.

That being said my main gripe is that I hate the white. This isn't face book this isn't the Nintendo Wee Magazine its a video game magazine. Black or a dark background is the best way to go.

The first time I saw the new design, I thought my browser had done that thing it does every now and then (usually when I get a connection huccup) where it fails to load about three quarters of any given website so I don't get to see anything but the bare bones of the site's content on top of a blank screen.

That being said, the colour of a website I frequent (especially one I visit daily) is really of very little consequence to me. What matters to me is that I feel like I am being shown an adequate representation of the content, most especially that I get to be a hundred percent certain that I have seen absolutely everything that has been uploaded since I last visited. In this regard, the new design fails miserably.

I suppose the "latest" tab of the "news" box is supposed to do this and maybe it actually does, but a box that takes up less an eighth of my screen and has only five slots definitely doesn't count. If this functionality is not improved significantly, I will certainly cease to consider The Escapist a viable source for news and entertainment.

EDIT: Actually, that box isn't even a too-small version of what I am looking for. It is missing key content (The Big Picture uploads, for example). What I'm looking for is a single list of all Escapist uploads so that I can make sure I don't miss anything. Heck, it doesn't even have to be on the main page at all, as long as I can get to it relatively easily I can bookmark it from there.

I thought my browser had failed too. That's not a particularly good sign.

I just tried to write a comment and post it and the website took so long to that it crashed... In short. The white sucks and makes things look blank/bland, It's slow, and the layout is organized for only for the escapist to make money NOT make it easy for users to browse.

It's obvious that you hired an SEO company to reformat your site to get better organic search engine results and just like every other SEO company it only yields a crappy hard to use website.

The new look is interesting, but, holy hell, you guys seem to have put your servers through the shitter. Hopefully, there will be some optimizations, both to the servers and the layout, as time progresses.

I like the overall look though it would be nice to have some sort of optional schemes or templates, even as a PubClub only option (and I'm not even a member).

I'm still getting the error where forums supposedly have no topics though, and this new version of the site is taking forever to load new pages. I'm hoping that these issues will be fixed, particularly the second one, or I may end up spending less time on the site. One of the reasons I like The Escapist is because, other than Wednesday afternoons, it's such a quick and snappy site with almost no load times. :/

I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate it, yeah it's unusual and seems a little unpolished in some ways but I'm sure I'll grow to like it.

Also if the moderators could stop warning people for their opinions that would be great. I mean:

I have 2 problems with it:

1 - the loading times are a lot longer since the update, but I imagine that will get smoothed out soon enough.

2- it's too goddamn bright. It may have something to do with the fact I have adblocker on firefox, but the entire background is bright white. Seriously, I can't look at this website for more than a couple of minutes before my eyes start to hurt.

Other than that, I have no issue with it. But please, PLEASE make it less 'makes your eyes bleed' bright.

A warning for this? I mean I know you're infamous for abusing your powers but come on guys...

Seeing as it's been nearly exactly the same for the three years I've been on the site, I damn near had a heart attack when I loaded it up a few minutes ago. I'm glad you guys are trying to improve things, but, well, it smacks of what I'm calling "Web 3.0", with the two-color scheme, the script-heavy dropdown menus, and the fancy fonts...basically the trend to make everything look more like Facebook. Hell, even Google fell for it.

So I must ask...is all of this really necessary? Sure, it's pretty, but it's a pain in the ass to navigate, the front page is a mess of headlines and images, and the fonts get all choppy in the smaller text boxes. Don't fix what isn't broke, eh?

I don't like it as much as the old one: I really liked the sidebar of all the shows. It was quick and convenient and took less clicks than the new drop-downs. Also, it's slow as balls right now.
