This is Richard here, I just stumbled upon a *czeeeee* cave full of *czeeee* Yao Guai!
Things are getting pretty bad! I'm almost out of bullets and my mines are already all blown up! *shooting sounds*
I can't hold much longer! Please send help! *growling sounds* OH SHI--
Oh man, that's intense. I saw a random trader towing a yao guai along behind his caravan. Man, I am not looking forward to tangling with one of those.
(And why the hell are they called "Yao Guai"? Why not just "Mutant Bear" or "Rad Bear" or something?)
EDIT: Ah, this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaoguai] sheds some light. Is it something to do with The War against China? Talk about an esoteric reference...
Oh man, the game just got really hard for me:
I was on my way over to Arefu from Megaton to deliver that girl's letter. On the way I stumbled across Big Town and their super mutant problem. So I continue on to Arefu, which just happens to be the same direction as the super mutant base, so there are two of them in the way, one with a fuckin' rocket launcher. I'm level 3. I dunno if they would have been there if I hadn't visited Big Town first or what. I tried buffing myself with chems and sneak attacking, no luck. I'll probably just go around or something. *sigh*

The rocket itself or the rocket launcher? And I'll try switching some stuff up too - I have a shotty (although in poor condition) and grenades that I'll try using, even though I probably suck at using grenades.

The missile launcher. They are in such poor condition I could use a laser pistol that does 10 damage and aim at it once in VATS and destory it beyond use.
Grenades are great too if you can get close enough to ensure a air-burst in VATS.
Also! EVERYBODY! Save your Nuka-Cola Quantam! It can be made into a nuclear-grenade!

Grenades are awesome to flush out enemies but i find mines to be the cookies cutter here.
Seriously most of the enemies you'll meet throughout the entire game will RUUUSH towards you if you take cover in a nearby corner.
So you should think your battles ahead and start deploying mines all around,
then you hit them with a sneak attack and then just hide until they go boom.
Works nearly every time, you don't loose hp nor bullets only 2-3 mines.
This of course only applies to stronger enemies like the Yuo Guai (i keep misspelling that poppycock) and the master super mutants...
Seriously I took out an entire cave of those bear mutants only with mines because they would 2 hit kill me if i got close to their greedy claws. :/
I'm happy because it seems that I was one of the first people on the Escapist to find Dogmeat.
I wonder if he appears in different places at different times of day, when I found him in the scrapyard it was fairly late at night, try going then
Yes, explosives are the way to go when fighting giant mutant bears...at least we're learning vital skills in case of a nuclear apocalypse. Save your coca-cola caps...
So, was anyone else kinda disappointed by the new power armor look, and then when they found the old school T51b power armor they were like, "Awwww yeah!"
Which reminds me, I got the best Yao Guai kill the other day, tossed a grenade, missed, cursed at the game and instead of a straightforward splash damage kill, my grenade launched the Yao Guai into the air unharmed, then the 100 foot fall killed it. Man I wish I had a capture card like Groovy Pants.

Bet you wish you took that Animal friend perk don't you?
I swear, that has to be one of the most useful perks in the game, I get so much experience off of Sneak Attack Criticals these days that it's not even funny, same goes for my ghoul mask and feral ghouls.

Armors are for wussies. Duster and cowboy hat for me. Might not take as much punishment as those soldier guys but at least I'll die looking faaaaaaaabulous.
Sporting ranger battle armor for now with a combat helmet and my little brain-fizzler laser pistol. Saving up microfusion rounds for a plasma rifle.>.> I missed out on the android's rifle.
