Trust me, I will find you they will find you.
Christ. I knew it.
You cna never hide from the fanboys. Ever...
But why were you hiding in the first place?
Aheh... I have a bad reputation for badmouthing the Xbox.

I've made a new year's resolution not to blaspheme anymore.

See you in 2 months fanboys.
um to blaspheme is to bad mouth god or a superior being or creature and from what you said prior to this i think you got your words wrong man maybe you should have gone with
i've made a new year's resolution not to ripp on it anymore.
sorry but being a smart ass is my thing.

PS3 is cheaper in the long run with less hassle. That's the only reason I bought one (other than that my friends were mainly on the PS3 at that point.) I haven't really looked back now that a lot of the exclusives aren't.

I never got why I was constantly told "BUT THE ECKSBAWKS IS CHEAPER U NOOB" little more than a year ago. The cost of Live Gold makes it a more expensive console in something like a year and a half, and I would've needed a wireless adapter (a feature the PS3 manages to have out of the box) which comes at some ridiculous price like £50. Then again, its apparently a more stable connection or something, so maybe the mountains of cash being raked in by the hooting masses of Live is actually being used for something.

I have both. If you think the NXE dashboard is inconvenient and aesthetically flawed and you're basing your opinion entirely on that do NOT get the ps3. My god do not get the ps3. Pretty much every single aspect of the ps3's online play or interface has at least one little annoying quirk or inconvenience, which individually aren't much of a problem but when put together make it MUCH worse than xbox live.

In relation to the ones you mentioned specifically:

The dashboard "sleek"ness varies based on opinion, but I personally think giving you a bland left-right scroll of text that says "games" "settings" ect. is a bit of an eyesore and very lame (it doesn't have any useful shortcuts like the "play game in slot" thing at the bottom of the xbox dashboard and the categories are extremely vague) and when you scroll over the tab you want it collapses into way too many unnecessary categories in the same bland text on an up/down scroll. (for example "audio devices" has its own category. No matter what the interpretation, this would either fit into "sound" or "accessories" which also have their own categories.)

The marketplace is WAAAAY more difficult to navigate than the xbox live one. first of all, everything is in this small bland grid format that looks like something made in Microsoft excel. Second, on the xbox you can easily find the content you from whatever category you want to use as a base (the game, the type of content it is, or if it's on the new releases or featured tabs you don't even have to look) On the PS3 marketplace, you can't just bring up "uncharted 2" and look for content on it. You have to go through some long specific bullshit process of something like "downloadable content>ps3 downloadable content>disc based downloadable content> V-Z (relating to title)>uncharted 2> (whatever DLC you where looking for.)" in that specific order. Which I suppose WORKS but can be a huge pain if you want to download, let's say, a demo and a trailer for a specific game and would have to go through two of these lists to find what you want, as opposed to xbox where you would just look up "all games>M>Mass Effect 2>(demo/trailer)"

Overall while the xbox dashboard is well organized, it's also aesthetically pleasing. The PS3 is this series of grids, which is organized but annoyingly procedural and just looks boring. And the Ps3 marketplace has ads too, just throwing that out there.

It's inconvenient and there's a million things wrong with it but at least it functions and it's free.

My sister has an Xbox, so I play it when I'm home. It's not as bad as people (including me) make it out to be, but it certainly annoys me.

I've never played a PS3, but from what I've read, seen and heard it seems to be the superior machine - for me, at least. It really does come down to the individual player. I prefer singleplayer games, I don't care about achievements or online extras and I want something that will play DVDs and won't die easily; so the PS3 really stands out for me.

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLEPOST:

u joke rite

I can't stand the 360 controller - it might just be my hamhands but it offers me no degree of precision.
First of all, the PS3 offers an achievement system called Trophies and has tons of online extras, and the 360 can play DVDs as well. Second, you do have ham hands if you don't love the 360 controller!

i have both and think it a close matched thing really for example controllers ps come with a recharge wirewhile there has to be bought or use AA while 360 has better triggers/2nd button also ps3 is £5 more but isnt so big (although thats preference i suppose)

games was close this yr mayby ps3 ahead abit, next yr is for 360 (not to say ps3 will suck but i mean ME2 and splinter cell and halo vs god of war 3, mag, GT5 and heavy rain although its down to perference i suppose)

its like this for most aspects such as online and features etc
in my opinion overall illd say ps3 is my fav but its a miniscule diff really.

*Put CD in, press up, press A = starts game*
*Press down, press A = Facebook*
*Home button, A, X = MSN*

I find it fairly easy to navigate through.

I own a Wii, a Ps3, and a 360. The Wii is a joke, and the 360 is what I usually use for online gaming. But oh, the good-ol' "reliable" 360 is not a very good machine. Firstly let me start off by saying that for some bizarre reason, (and I've looked up every way to solve this - still can't) my brand new xbox360 Elite cannot play guitar hero 5. At all. Secondly, every time I start it up, iut has to have some kind of error at least once. Thirdly, the wireless internet connector is pathetic, shutting down once at least every time I play online. Fourth, the community, though "large", is awful! They scream and yell, and the only insults they can ever think of is to call me a fag. Especially when I use my "Wait and hide" strategy. What kind of insult is that?! Homophobia is awful, and ignorant.

My PS3 on the other hand, only crashed once - although that "once" was permanently, we did end up getting a new one just recently. It has a great controller, a great community, great connectivity to my internet connection, and despite the inability to play music during a game, is the better system.

IMO

Well to me (a literal outsider) the Trophies system doesn't seem quite as in-your-face as the "E-penis" of the Achievements and Gamerscore. Also, I meant that the PS3's online bells and whistles are free - I don't think I mentioned that in my original post, though. And a lot of this is personal opinion - I think the 360 just looks ugly, for example. Also it's a common fact that the 360 has a terrible d-pad, but I guess the overall accuracy of the pad is completely subjective.

there are rumors about Live prices going up, as well as rumors of PSN starting to charge, at least for certain things. i have both systems and enjoy both alot. i just prefer more games and the controller of the 360 better.

Wow... same old flame ridden garbage that always shows up in these threads...

OP: I think you'd have to be half-retarded to think that the PS3's XMB system is in any way better than NXE. Neither of them are very good but they're both serviceable, and if that's your complaint about a system you're obviously just here to nitpick.

Both systems have their merits, and when it comes down to it, get the one that has the games you want to play on it.... I just feel sorry for you PS3 owners that don't game on PC, because you will never get to experience the pure awesome that is Mass Effect 1 and 2.

As someone that owns neither console I can say i'm unbias. I have played both the Xbox 360 and Ps3 a fair bit round friends houses and can say I prefer the Ps3.

Firstly even since the first Xbox I have found the controllers horrible The PS1-2-3 controllers are better but for ergonomic design the Gamecube controller will always get my vote even if the console wasn't the best.

As for operating systems I did like the old 360 one but just hand over the controller to a friend with the new one since I can never find anything. The PS3 one also isn't great, but is it just me or is the new Xbox360 OS a horizontal version of the PS3 one with some pictures?

If I was to buy one it would probably be a PS3 due to the games are are more to my taste and I know far to many people that have had the red ring of death and one guy had it twice in 1 month.

p.s Is it true what someone told me that the red ring is caused by the graphics card overheating and getting damaged? anyone know?

I've been playing PC a lot more recently, but my Box has a special place in my heart.

I wanted to get a PS3 for Christmas, but my fellow Escapists convinced me it wasn't the right thing to do.
who told you here? BUY ONE! :D
Well, it was that, having tyo pay a=some money towards it, and no other presents, or many presents.
So, yeah, after opening my eyes, the option was pretty clear.

Who knows, maybe there'll be another price drop by my birthday, and I can get it then.

Unless you need a working D-Pad, in which case there is massive room for improvement.
I didn't say it was perfect, the D-pad definitely needs work. But it is still the best controller ever designed, in my opinion.

I would have to agree that the 360 controller is the best controller to date, if it werent for the god-awful D-pad. I personally cant stand to play online PS3 games with the L2/R2 triggers, or with the poorly designed sticks.

Its certainly a good controller for many game types, and the triggers add a nice tactile feel to shooters and great control for driving games and you are totally in your right to have your opinion.

But if we could get a 360 controller with the Saturns D-Pad then that would be something.
