I fortunately never got the talk. An uncle tried when I was 10 but I shot him a nasty look and he shut up. I knew basically everything by the time I was 7. It sucked because I was ridiculed by the purposely kept ignorant children. I rubbed it in their faces when they found out I was right all along.

Two friends got the talk but they don't like talking about it.
Ahem sorry forgive me :)

Anyway im startled by the amount of people here who have actually had the talk, as I know nobody who knows someone who had it.. Weird

I got 'The Talk' from my dad. Although, by that time the school had already explained it all to me in better detail, but I decided to listen to stop him feeling embaressed.

I got something akin to the talk from my da when i turned 18. I already knew everything but the talk still occured.

Consisted of "I'll buy you your first pack of three and if you get her pregnant, you're marrying her"

We used to have a satellite dish that picked up German channels. One night my father was flicking through channels and came across a show where a couple were having sex on a stage whilst a crowd cheered them. He paused on it for about a minute and then carried on channel surfing, adding "don't be ashamed of sex". This seems like a decent way to handle it. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video clip has to be worth a shit load.

I found a book in the playroom in my local church when I was eleven. It taught me the basics, and I just thought "Oh, so that's how it happens." The talk? Thank the Lord, no.

I got "The Talk" at the age of six, although it was never summed up in ONE talk.

Just gave me a book "Sex and you" with some truely disturbing pictures. I did find out about it that way, and it has been a part of my upbringing from the day I could understand what it was.

My family, in particular my mother, is a bit strange. We're rather open. I was introduced to innuendo at the age of four. By the kitchen table. But I've never had a normal 'the talk' with anybody, I figured that out on my own when puberty hit, more or less.

I did find my older brother's 'magazines', but I was young and didn't know the difference between 'generic woman' and 'naked chick', so that was alright.

my talk was basically "If you get a girl pregnant you'll be stuck with a little bastard and be paying child support out the ass for the rest of your life, so don't have sex" thanks dad!

That was a pretty bad choice of words. Oh and you made me laugh, thank you.

Never got "the talk," what with dad gone and mom working all the time, but a nice little class in 8th grade decided to explain everything. Not that I really cared or anything, though. I was too busy trying to learn more ways to kill people, especially with fire.

"The talk" is one of the thing I consider fairytales that people try to implement into reality. Do you REALLY think it's a necessity?

It's good that school handles some of the finer details, but you can figure out the basics on your own just like a lot of other stuff in life. To that end, I do not endorse purposefully "protecting" children from such information. (Albeit being a bit discreet just like you are around other people is fine. I never said you'd shove it in their faces.)
