Awesome! I've finally found a good USB stick for my laptop [http://www.thisnext.com/item/6E39B094/Datamancers-Steampunk].
That is the most awesome laptop I have ever seen!
And it does match:)

You guys totally have this wrong. It's not about the value of it's use or its components. The value is in the art, and the artist who made it. If this guy is a significant Steampunk artist who commands high prices for his pieces, then this piece will be worth $1000 to someone.

Let's say his labor as a famous Steampunk artist is $100 an hour. If he spent 10 hours making this, then it's worth a thousand dollars.

That's like saying a Monet is only worth the cost of the paint and canvas, and maybe what it's worth to you to cover up that hole in the wall.

Good lord! Imagine how much pornography you could hide from your wife on that!!!
or you could buy a bunch of them and hide them all over so if she finds one she cant wreck your whole collection.

Organizing it may be a problem, though. She may be curious as to why the back of the refrigerator is labeled "G - L"

It looks like shit tbh. The only thing I like about it are the pipes. For me to buy it it would need to be cheaper than a regular 64gig stick.

It's a groovy, handcrafted collector's piece. I always liked functional art like lapidary pieces and pottery, but to see something like it for the computer is neato.

Kind of wish it did a bit more though, for the price.

I don't get why anyone would want this. I can understand the lifestyle and steampunk culture, sure. But to pay that sort of price? Really?

-$1000 = 64GB a memory stick that will not have a warranty?

For $389 there's one here - http://www.amazon.com/Super-Talent-Luxio-Encription-STP28GLXBU/dp/B002HWRJLC/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259675467&sr=1-13 - that is twice the size, has encryption and a lifetime warranty.

I don't use memory sticks bigger than 4GB because if I lose one, or if one fails its a huge headache. If I need to move larger sizes I use a USB hard disk and I don't let it out of my sight.

To charge that price, I think a memory card adapter would have been a better object to restyle.

Just say its a technology thing and not to touch it because she will break it.

For $1000 I'd expect it to do more than hold memory. Maybe if it could talk or something, kind of like a small robot. Ooh, or maybe if the gem could shoot lazers.

Yeah, gotta say I'm in agreement with the "It doesn't even look Steampunk" crowd. But the capacity is impressive. Haven't seen over 16Gig in a retail model yet, 32 in custom/spec-order. It's basically one jump ahead of the industry.

Now even if it were largely plastic, a "steampunk" looking USB drive with gears that move when plugged in, THAT would be something to see.
Yeah it would. But I still wouldn't pay $1k for it.

If you think about it, that's pretty much what you'd pay for just a regular flash drive only ten years ago, or less.
