I would say Blizzard Vavle Bioware or Bethesta

All the games that the companies produced over the more recent years have been excellent and well receive among the public.

I'd go with Valve and the Blizzard from before the Starcraft 2 release.
I don't know about Blizzard, lot of people I know don't like them anymore.

OT: I would say probably BioWare or Relic, mostly because I don't hear to many complaints about them.

I would hazard a guess at Insomniac. Never really heard anyone bash them in my experience.

Let's see...Valve made awesome games, and even provides some gratuitous extras on Steam. On the other hand, I'll set Gabe Newell's house on fire if I don't get any news on a HL2 sequel or EP3 soon. Or rather I would, if I had any idea where he lives. Google stalking ftw!
Then again, Bioware made the truly excellent Jade Empire, and has thus far failed to incite my pyromaniac urges. But, they went for the mmo instead of a KotOR3, though I'll wait until how well that turns out.
But let's go back a bit farther in time, late 90s, early 00s perhaps? What about Bullfrog? Or to you young'uns, the developer of Populus and Dungeon Keeper (that was before Molyneux became MS's ***** for hire)? Yeah, I'm gonna go with Bullfrog!

Ah I'd have to go with Bethesda, great games coming from them, and the hate is usually minor petty stuff as far as I know, they have never disappointed me at least. =)

Valve. They really know how to treat their followers. Plus, their games are masterpieces.

HAL?
Who made SSB.
Yeah, and they also made Brawl.
Yeah, I kind of meant the super smash brothers series in general.
Yeah, and they kinda went out with a bang with Brawl.

Actually, HAL wasn't loved by everyone to begin with because there were a lot of people that just hated SSB because it looked like another spam franchise with all the same Nintendo characters.

For me though, SSB Melee is one of my favourite games ever but SSB Brawl was such a huge let down. I and many others were really hyped up for that shit almost 3 years before it's release, I don't get hyped up for anything any more because of that.

Thing with this is, I think we should exclude indie devs, mainly because something that's less known is always less hated. (I'm saying this as an indie game lover).

OT: Valve. They could have charged money for Alien Swarm. But they didn't.

Whats the point of saying "least hated"? Why not just say "Best" and save us all some time?

Also.....I'm gonna have to go a little cliche here and say Valve. Their good-game to bad-game ratio is pretty damn good.

Bioware. Yes, I am a fanboy.. but fuck, they can deliver! As well, have some of the best writers for the video game industry at their disposal to really make those plot's hit the heart.

I think it would probably bring out the fanboys. Plus, it seems rather open to interpretation. Blizzard, Bioware, and Valve are three great developers in their respective genres. Blizzard has RTS, Bioware has RPG, and Valve has FPS. It's really hard to name one as best of the best when they each approach different subjects from different starting points.
