Assassin's creed, any short sword/dagger/great weapon. Oh sure its cool to nab them off enemies and then wail on them with them for a bit, but as a primary constant they're a bit lame. small weapons don't have the damage output of proper swords and theres always a sword with a high speed/parry rate so you can make those counter kills super quick.

I browsed over the first posts and I'm surprised to not see any mention to Dr. Jekyll's cane (game: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - NES), which doesn't do anything, or if it does, it needs to be almost pixel perfect to hit anything. Maybe it's so bad it can't be considered a weapon...
I hate Megaman 3's weapon "Top Spin", but even more that freakin' MM5 "Charge Kick"! The "Super Arm" from MM1 is useless without the special rocks nearby, and they are rare.
I'm also not fond of Halo Series's Plasma Pistols, though I wouldn't call them useless.
Oh! I remember a good one! The Dagger from Super Castlevania 4! I absolutely love the game, but that weapon is really USELESS! It's weak (I believe even weaker than your normal weapon, the whip), and the only thing it has going for itself is that it flies straight in front of you (aka, range), but the whip can get so big that anything that is in front of you might as well be whiped instead of stabbed!

The sniper rifle in Dead Space 2. There is never a situation in that game where the necromorphs aren't rushing you, and the zoom just serves to narrow your field of vision- there is just no need for long-range effectiveness.

I'd say the A.J.M 9(Pistol) in Far cry 3 blood dragon was useless. It had terrible damage and the fact that it was silenced was overshadowed by the recurve bow. It looks like it was made to be a main headshot weapon, but every other weapon is somewhat better at headshotting since the ironsights are unclear as hell.
Yeah, even with upgrades it was pretty crap and the three round burst was really clunky, so you couldn't even use it for close quarters spamming like one normally does with pistols.

Staying with Farcry 3, the flamethrower in the main game were a bit naff. If you wanted to catch stuff on fire the flaregun/bow/molotovs were better, for CQB the shotguns were.

When I first saw this thread I was going to say the Gravity Gun from Half-Life 2 but I'm not sure it count (Seriously what is the appeal of that gun its good for physics puzzles but thats it).
It seems some people here haven't tried using the Gravity Gun against manhacks...

On-topic, I'll go for a lesser-known title and say the Fragmentation Bomb Launcher in X3. It was intended as an AoE fighter weapon - the only problem is that it does practically no damage, and it will quickly exhaust your fighter's energy reserves. If you end up getting a ship with these installed, you generally sell them as soon as possible.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Vindicator Battle Rifle (found during the Recruit Archangel mission) in Mass Effect 2. It had a ridiculously low ammo capacity and could only fire a few shots before needing to be reloaded. To put it nicely, that was the worst excuse for an assault rifle I have ever used. The Revenant Machine Gun (found on the Collector ship) was far better.

Gravity Gun from Half Life 2.
A weapon which relies upon conveniently placed Saw Blades and Propane tanks lying around is not a weapon I want to be going up against the enemy with.
That weapon is beast! Sure nothing much is usually lying around to kill with but if you take something WITH you its awesome. I adopted a pet engine from Ravenholm in that game who I took everywhere with me. The cute little blighter instakilled virtually everything and blocked rounds all the time. I could fire it into an enemy so hard it bounces off and I catch it again in mid air fast enough to show the victim's friend the same trick before he/she retaliates. I could fell an ant lion guard the same way in beautiful, violent moments. Soldiers in nova prospect would go flying, antlions burst and zombies splatter. If you find yourself separated from your pet engine why not try taking care of a circular saw or an iron radiator both of which have their own... unique qualities? You will always be ready to punt away headcrabs and catch grenades with Mr G in your hands even if you find yourself parted from tibbles the car engine.

The only really hard part is getting your pet engine to go walkies with you across the beach while antlions infinitely respawn around you. Try firing mr engine a long distance then drive after him and pick up again until safely across. With enough skill sniping and double kills are not only possible, but f**king hilarious.

With all the joke weapons and the just plan outclassed ones ...
I'd have to say the worst gun in any game period is ...

Any pistol in Gunz The Duel.

Free mmo that doesn't bother to fix that people can glitch/fly around in a thing called K-style that makes anything not fully automatic or a shotgun useless.

The Hail from Borderlands 2.
An assault rifle which fires in a near vertical pattern, so you can't even shoot anything from a point blank range.

Hand blasters from Dc universe online. They are a ranged weapon that does little damage imo. Especially if you are a controller in game, you are just very frail and get stun locked because of using that weapon.

Whatever the Stormtroopers are using. Because they can't seem to hit a fucking thing. In the movies or games.

The switchblade from Silent Hill 3. It has the range of an unfolded paperclip and it does about the same amount of damage.
In a game where the combat is deliberately sticky and difficult, and weapons are usually for when you can't adequately evade enemies, may God have mercy on your soul if your last resort is a dinky little letter opener masquerading as a weapon.
Now, I will mention that it is ideal for a horror game to make your defenses pitiful in the face of whatever evil may be threatening you, so an equally pitiful weapon is reasonable. However, starting with that, and then promptly finding the "Holy Indestructable Super Fast Overpowered Katana of St. Michael" in the 3rd area of the game (which isn't even a secret or unlockable; it is literally sitting in a closet with nothing else) kind of ruins the point.

I agree, both the Sword of Aeons and Avo's Tear were better than the Solus Greatsword because of the DPS and Augments. However it still sucked that they nerfed the SoA in Lost Chapters.
I'll definitely give you that. They had to though. They were going to have the original damage for the SoA carry on into TLC at first but then they saw how incredibly OP'd it was and they had to nerf it in order to create SOME challenge for the player. lol

When Fable 2 and 3 were coming out, I kept hoping they would bring back the SoA but they never did. *sigh* I think it's now lost to time.
Ah no they didn't since those Summoners were a ***** to fight.

Nah, the Vindicator is fine. So long as you know how to aim. Send a few precise bursts into an enemies head and they are down.

The Revenant, on the other hand, couldn't hit a barn door. It's fun to use but impossible to get headshots with, forcing you into ranges so close that you might as well just use a shotgun.

Plus it was only available to soldiers.

What made them bad was their stupid AoE blast they did when you were right next them. Did a crapload of damage and knocked you back. THAT was annoying.

In ME3, at least, the Revenant made an excellent panic weapon. Saved my ass from more than a few Phantoms.

The Raptor, on the other hand, was downright useless. Large clip and rapid fire, sure, but it did so little damage it took forever to kill anything. Slap a scope on a Mattock (hell, even without the scope) and you have a weapon superior in almost every respect. I can find a purpose or a niche that almost every weapon in that game can fill. Except the Raptor.

In ME3, i loved using the Revenant in the multiplayer with the Turian Sentinel. Turn on Tech Armour, find some cover and enjoy the stability boosts while mowing down enemies.

I couldn't agree more about the Raptor. I have friends who say they love it and can use it well, but i have always found it a waste of time. It's a glorified assault rifle, and not a good one.

The reason you can't hold it steady is because you lack the points in the relevant skill. The Mass Effect sniper is incredibly powerful.

The Halo plasma pistol is also extremely useful. Not as a direct killer, but the question was about pointless weapons, and it has several vital uses.

Fallout 3 and NewVegas - The BB gun, literally only good for killing radroaches, that can be killed with one hit of anything.
Don't forget the Toy Knife in Point Lookout, worst way to make a unique weapon with no use.

In Just Cause 2, there's a bubble blower gun located on one of the islands in the south west of the map. It's not challenging to get, there are no enemies around, but it can be hard to find (it's in a grove of cherry trees) and does no damage to enemies or anything. Just kind of a waste of time.
Why get a bubble gun? JUST CAUSE!
