I Water-Starter looks reeeally bad. Even nature seems to follow some sort of color design, but it's just tacky.

The other two look promising, in my opinion.

So they really were the real ones?! Hm, I've always been a fan of the starter Pokemon (To the point I'd rather have every starter then every other Pokemon) but these three... I just don't know... I mean seriously did they just throw random body parts from wherever to make that water one?! Perhaps I might come to like them but who knows. Ah, well maybe their evolutions may make me like them, yup yup. (My post was randomly put together to you know go in line with these three)

Oh gawd. These are hideous. Why, oh why, did I have to get excited for this. Hopefully they don't look this bad when they're fully evolved.

They always look better when fully evolved.

I gotta say, these ones are especially ugly, except the grass starter, he's pretty chill.

Seriously though, this whole "Your character is 15 years old" thing worries me.

Sure it's nice to have an older character, but won't that mean he's already been a trainer for FIVE YEARS!?

Yeah, too bad grass sucks. Every Pokemon game I play, I always use a water starter. I even loved Piplup. But this one... oh man, this one... it's an abomination.

That's rough, the water is the worst of the three, BY FAR.

Better than I thought they'd be. I pick based on which one I like best, so I'ma go with the fire pig, though the grass type looks kinda cool too.

And the otter with a seashell is cute.
I agree with you dood! Everyone is too harsh on the new generations. Not their fault though. Nostalgia is a hard thing to ignore.

This concerns me as well. I don't see how this works since it's traditional for kids to start training Pokemon on their tenth birthday. It makes me wonder what they've been doing the past five years.

Every time I look back at the new starters, I get more excited. They've each endeared themselves to me entirely by now. All that's left is to see what Legendary comes with Black or White then stake my claim.

Why is everyone so worried about starters anyway? There will be other Pokemon in the game!

Don't get me wrong, but G/S/C were still the best. From what I've seen so far though, and I haven't seen much, B&W are shaping up to be pretty good games. Might even give them a run for their money.

I stopped caring about the Pokemon series after Gold/Silver. Aside from the fact that none of my friends were into the games (and indeed only one of them even buys portable systems in the first place), but the other reason is that it became obvious to me back then that Pokemon was nothing more than a cash cow. With every new set of games they release it becomes more and more obvious that they ran out of ideas and are basically just taking any doodle their artists produce and say "Yup, that's one of the new Pokemon".

I think the instant thought of, "those look like immature shit!" shows that I have outgrown pokemon.

That realization makes me sad.

We're worried about the starters because of the fact that as of now there are only 5 new pokemon we know of, if two of them look absolutely "pants on head retarded" *gives Yahtzee a quarter* then that's two fifths of the new generation we know of. It doesn't bode well.

I imagine they'll either have some ruby/sapphire esque emergency that starts him off with pokemon, or they'll have him start like every other game and just ignore the canon contradictions.

And I thought Platinum had bad starter pokemon...

Shame on me for actually getting my hopes up about the Pokemon design.
If you don't like a giant spiked turtle with a land mass on its back.
That sounds like a mix between Blastoise and the fully evolved Grass type starter Pokemon from Gold/Silver.
Thanks. You've just forced me to go get Platinum. I've only played the original and SoulSilver... But damn, that is bad ass. It just better be named A'Tuin.

Yeah... Now I'm going to find four elephant types and call them T'Phon, Tubul, Berilia and Jerakeen. And then, just to fill out my party, I need a Primeape name Librarian. I'm so far gone, is there an elephant type? I don't even know.

Sort of on topic, I still find the original designs to be, on average, better than most of the new ones. I do love my Typhlosion though, but most of my party tends to be made up of the originals because I just can't bear to not use them.

If you don't like a giant spiked turtle with a land mass on its back, a huge steel penguin, or a kung-fu monkey, I question your judgment.
The idea wasn't bad but in my opinion the execution was poor.

(besides it was just a primeape that caught on fire)

I think anyone can become trainers whenever they want, just no sooner then ten, maybe these kids just picked up an interest later?

I might be disappointed in the starters, but I know I'm still going to get the new versions.
Nintendo hooked me early as a child so I can only hope the new versions turn out fine.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the trainers in previous games were a bit older than 10. Though the anime gives a clear time, the games aren't quite so specific.

Though the trainers are just under 5 feet tall, so...
