But which one is which? The color pictures don't help me at all. :(
Edit: LOL! In all seriousness I called the grass type before I saw the colored picture. The grass type starter always has leaves somewhere on it.

Y'know, I'm starting to wonder if the Water starter for this generation will be like Mudkip and evolve into a Water/Ground hybrid... if only so I can make a reference to Dragon Age?

"Oh, it's one of those subterranian bunny-pigs!"
+1 to you for the Nug reference!

I mean... Couldn't they have just gone with these [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/media/images/articles/article/7291/NewPokemon.png]? I like them so much more. I was so hyped about that list because they reminded me of the first gen, while still being new and creative. These new starters? Well, we have a... pigrabbit, which is... water? A fat... badger? Raccoon? For fire? As well as a... Well I don't even know what that thing it... but it's grass.

I've never had a complaint with any of the newer generations of pokemon before. I suppose there is a first time for everything though. I'm disappointed.

That list is fantastic.
Agreed. some of them are really well thought up and designed brilliantly.

i especially like Billaze(7 down, 6 across), Avalama and Himalama(14 down, 11,12 across) and Hamstar(1 down, 10 across). very cool.

Show of hands. Who thinks this generation will kill the franchise? *raises hand*
Show of hand: Who thinks any pokemon games will sell millions even if Nintendo were to just remaking the same game with updated graphic?

*Raises both hands*
They've done that.
I know, that was my point.

Has anyone thought that the brown thing on the pokemon coloured as grass could be like slick back hair and not it's nose? no one has thought of that, I love 1st, 2nd, and 3rd starter generations, but 4th gen starters were just stupid, a monkey with fire on it's tail and wrists of fire, not a copy of Blaziken or anything how amazing. Now to the point I will probably just trade off my starter early in game to my stupid cousin in exchange for some awesome beast because he has been playing straight for 2 nights. But i digress, could they not think of something totally AWESOME!! like a lion with a mane of fire, (if they use that idea i want credit)

OH MY GOD, I just stumbled upon rule 34 of the silhouettes, I thought when they announced roa-ark(or whatever) and there being porn in 24 hours was bad, but these Pokemon haven't even been revealed and there's already porn. Though I must admit, it sure looks better then the fake ones.

I think the One in the middle looks like a rabbit with leaf ears and the bottom left looks like a Zora (it looked to me like it was turning it's head to the right, thus making the protrusion a fin, not it's nose as in the fan-drawing). Also a fire-raccoon would be neat.

But then, who's to say Nintendo didn't release these as a Rorschach test to find out what we thought they were so they could decide based on that. What's to say they aren't making subtle changes to the fan-art version so they can copyright and use that version. Unfortunately, if the fan who drew them is right, we will never know. The suspense is killing me, and I haven't even beat SoulSilver yet! Oh well, in a week I wont have school to get in the way...

Hey you guys I've got an idea while looking at the silhouettes. The one with the "leaf" like thing on it's tail could easily be the water starter. See it's head could be facing back, like it's looking over its shoulder, making its head water-drop shaped. Instead of that long pointed thing being its nose, it could be a crest on the back of the head.

The leaf tail could easily be a tail fin of some sort, a-la Vaporeon.

What do you guys think?

Edit:

Wow, ninja'ed. And it was the post right above me ><
I totally agree though ^^^

I, for one, would like to see a change from the standard rock-scissors-paper starters. Just how many variation on water, grass and fire types can you make, anyway? I'd love to start with something like a Sableye (dark/ghost type). Now THAT would kick some arse.

That fan image is horrid. They're not likely to look anything like that.

for instance...the one on the left.

It's obviously has it's head turning right, not a giant beak...thing.

Please let this not be another grass/fire/water trio... There are more holy triangles, like psychic/fight/dark.

i think the Pokemon with 3 leaves on it's tail is facing the other way, not having a stupid brown beak on the front of it. then it would make much more sense, and probably up it's image, the blue thing is weird, but the fire Pokemon is awesome!

Treeko Doesn't have Leaves, hence it can't learn Razor Leaf

The left one's head has a very similar shape to Celebi's. There looks like there are leaves on the end of it's tail which makes the idea of it being the grass type very convincing. However Flygon has a similar shape on it's tail and Flygon is Ground/Dragon.
It's possible that it could be the water type as it has a very slender body and wide tail end which would help it to swim, although the tail isn't rudder shaped, making it unlikely.
This one is standing upright. Most fire starters are able to stand upright, so this could also be the fire type.

The middle one looks quite similar to Turtwig. The things on it's head could be leaves, and it's tail could be a berry so also could be a grass type. The tail is similar to Maril's, hence it could have a similar purpose but I think this would be unlikely.

The right one looks very much like a beaver, small ears, flat tail, body shape. This is most likely to be the water type.
Like the left one, this one is also standing upright so it could be the fire starter.

Contrary to popular belief, Psy/Fight/Dark not actually a true triangle. Dark is immune to Psychic attacks. You could try Rock/Flying/Fight and I think there are others.
