'What's up?' or just 'sup'. The sky is the obvious answer, but these people seem to think it's an acceptable way of asking how somebody is. No, it isn't! It is asking either very literally 'what is up?' inwhich case the sky, ceiling or just pointing upwards is acceptable, or 'what is up?' which transliterates as 'what is wrong?', and except in a very specific set of circumstances, the only way to find out if there even is something wrong is to ask how they are first! Argh, it pisses me off! I have RAAAGE!!

It's just a horrible word, a lingering relic from when society was even more of an asshole than it is now. Using it to describe someone with Autism, or Down's Syndrome, or any other mental disability, is just plain cruel in my eyes. However, what REALLY grinds my gears is when it is used as an insult to someone who did something stupid. We already have words like "Dumbass," "moron," and "idiot" for that! Unless you mean that they actually are mentally disabled, then not only are you insulting the person you direct it at (for insinuating they are mentally disabled, which many people do not like), but you're also insulting people with mental disabilities (for insinuating that people with disabilities are all complete and total morons).

It's just sickening.

Tis completely legitimate still. If someone's growth is stunted, their growth can be said to be retarded. A force acting on an object that slows said object down is said to be a retarding force. So yeah, perfectly legit.

Mainly when I'm visiting my parents and I hear 'Did you read about xxx in the paper?' as I know there's a tidal wave of reactionary bullshit coming my way, and I won't be able to just take, so I'll end up making at least one of them all pissy.

It just hurts to see them take such nonsense at face value is all.

The last one was a 'report' on wind farms in, yes the Daily Mail, stating that 'the Government' now have the right to come round and install a turbine on your roof without you having any say in it, and they can also go onto farmlands and fill crop fields with them, without asking permission or anything.

Yes, that all sounds entirely true and not typical Mail-esque anti-green scaremongering.

The amount of completely ret- *looks up a post* stupid viewpoints I have to hear because people see stuff written down on a disposable bundle of paper and take it as fact, still amazes and irritates me equally.

Add 'You know them immigrants...' and 'The muslims can even do xxx now and we can't say a thing about it!' and 'have a kid at 14 and you get a 5 bedroom house for free and a big telly!'

It bugs me when people add words to the end of acronyms that are already in the acronym. Like PIN number, or ATM machine, etc.

That my friend, is known as a redundant acronym. Or as it has been rather amusingly coined: RAS syndrome... Redundant Acronym Syndome syndrome. It is a pet peeve of mine too.

PIN number is probably the most common and I cringe every time a shop assisstant says it. Must fight the urge to correct them and appear condescending...

It's mostly the medias fault for the "blacklisting" of skinheads not the Nazis themselves and there's a really small percent of original skinheads that's racist, if you NEED to pick a politic for the skinheads it's closer to Socialism and Communism, but that's just because of the working class pride... Retard has alternate definitions in music and delaying things. But, it isn't like ****** where that was the term or you could mistake people for saying it.

Retard was never used in popular lexicon as delayed, it's always meant of inferior IQ. The person above your quote is slightly misinformed though. You can be autistic and still not be defined as mentally retarded, although it is unfortunately very common.

It's "an other" you imbecile. If you stick a word in between and that word doesn't start with a vowel then it stops being "an". E.G. "a whole other" or "an enormous other" - that's how English works, LIVE WITH IT.

The only acceptable use of "an other" was in Another Brick in The Wall, and only because correct grammar would have ruined the song. If you're not singing then don't even try it cowboy.

it's 'Another' not 'an other', check the Oxford Dictionary, but, yes, it does turn into 'a whole other', but you need to take in accents as part of the thought equation... i miss of 't's because of my accent, and g's frog words like missing, so i would say "the kid wen' missin'" instead of "the kid went missing", so after you think about accents, some accents cause you to say a whole nother" while others don't.

i tried PC gamind, Battlefield4free... mouse is unusable, keyboard doesn't flow a,d matches are never joinable... not sure if you have to be used to it by playing for years or something, but my controller is a lot more comfortable, easier to use and much more precise than my laggy pc making me swing everywhere

it's still used in medical terms, to be mentally or physically retarded means to be unable to do mental or physical things that 'normal' people can do, flame retardant means it stops flames from spreading through it.

people took the idea of mentally retarded, and turned it into an insult, so 'retard' normally means that they think that you have something not quite there in your head, the concept that they don't grasp is people who are severely mentally retarded may be unable to function in everyday life, but be classed as geniuses in specific fields... for example, Einstein couldn't read or write until he was 7(or was that mozart?)

Opinions can be wrong in certain circumstances. If someone has an opinion that contravenes the facts of a situation then they are wrong.
