They're right, you can't strictly apply numbers to art, it's all subjective.
On the other hand, those numbers can be a general indication of how good the game is when put all together. The difference between 70 and 71 is nothing, but the difference between 70 and 80 can mean a big difference in the general consensus.

Also, Homefront was mediocre. Not bad, but not great. The game might be art in the "games are art" sense, but it's certainly not *great* art.
