This DRM is beyond unfair and goes against a thing called "customer service" or "care".
And it will only make MORE people pirate it I bet!

all in all I think this is a big advance for the pirating community at large.
They'll surely gain a lot more legitimacy and grateful attention because of this trend or idiocy and complete lack of connection to their market base.

It's the fault of the pirates, sure... but the pirates are going to get around it in a week, and the regular PC gamer is going to be screwed over with the worst anti-piracy tactic.... ever. I don't even... how the hell can they think this is a good idea?

Well, like nearly every other single player game I am sure it will be available to torrent with all these DRM issues fixed on release day anyways.
Which is why they even try DRM in the first place. It's a nasty vicious cycle, but piracy is not the answer. Ever.
They'll bankrupt before they can end piracy. Piracy, in that situation, can be seen as a form if violence. People may say violence never solves anything, but a baseball bat to the knee caps later they'll agree with me really damn fast.

But quite honestly, the point here is hardly to "strong arm" Ubisoft into doing our whim. The point is to show them they're inconveniencing the legitimate customer WITH SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT EVEN WORK.

I own the first AC. Legitimate copy, sitting right behind me. I refuse to buy ACII like that, and will likely not touch it entirely.

Actually, this may be the one case where I'd make an exception.

I don't mean I'd pirate the game, but if I were to buy it, I'd probably get a crack to let me play offline.

I don't think that's illegal.
It probably is, but so is going into Ubisoft and just unloading into the DRM policy makers with a magnum. But neither getting a crack or unloading into the policy makers is wrong, so go nuts.

Seriously what were ubisoft doing when the draconian drm shit blew up in ea's faces? Or are ubisoft living in a different reality where that shit worked out swimmingly?

This is funny. I give em a week before they realize how UTTERLY stupid this is.

Ubisoft you guys are fucking idiots. Why don't you just learn already gamers aren't stupid and we don't want your shitty game ruining DRM. I already had farcry 2 robbed from me because of install limits and hardware issues. And screw you for trying again. DRM is bad

I think I speak for everyone on the PC when I say: What the fuck. :(
Well, it's been said for me. Looks like I'll be saving money too, considering how great Mediacom is with internet service.

As Ubisoft draws neared to deliver us their games on the PC, they take off their mask and say: "All right, you PC gamers! In the words of my generation, UP YOURS!"

In all seriousness: What the fuck?
Awesome Independence Day reference.

That said, what the fuck Ubisoft? You guys used to be cool! If you guys do this to Beyond Good and Evil 2 I'll fucking weep :(

the funny part here is that pirated version of the game is going to be DRM free and wouldnt need an internet connection... what their doing is knowingly sabotaging the sales more and more and more....

If someone DOES come up with a working crack, AC2 will probably be pirated twice as much (if even possible), out of sheer ill will from the gaming community.

I remember Spore's DRM drive. Some developer spoke gladly and highly of their protection schemes a few days after launch, saying that the game had been pirated considerably less, thanks to the difficulties of pirating it. He stated that it was near-impossible to get a pirated copy of Spore working on your computer, and that it would take a skilled computer user days of trying.

My roomie, barely a computer literate, decided to try Spore that very same day. It took him three hours to download the game, and another 10 minutes to crack it.

I'm glad I play so little. I feel this obligation to actually pay for me games (at least indie titles, which constitute the vast majority of the few games I ever play), but with DRM schemes such as this, I'd probably choose not to play the game at all.

And I'm even more glad I'd never play Assassin's Creed 2 anyways, even if it was free of both price tag and DRM ;-)

Wow.

For once I don't agree with DRM. That can't be DRM, surely? Maybe we should call it "Uber-DRM".

I like hte fact that in order to pirate you need to be online. Hmm... Who's the only one that it fucks over... The person who has the shit connection or none at all.
Actually, a small patch/crack to remove the DRM from a legally purchased copy would not only not be illegal, it would be very small, a few megabites.

If I do come round to buying this game, that's what I'll do.
This is like half pirating,

actually, you're wrong, you need to be online WHILE pirating it, then once it's downloaded, you never need to be online again.

I am connected to an expensive fiber optic network, I have a nice computer, and I run regular maintenance, but you know what? every so often connection drops for a minute or two, it just happens, and with a pirated copy, people won't have to deal with that. Not only that, but what if you're traveling or something?

This DRM is stupid every way you look at it.

This is one of those games I'd prefer to get a console regardless, so it doesn't bother me.
