Even if Ubisoft paid me to put a 3D TV in my house, I would refuse. It's a dumb gimmick and I want no part of it.

I can just imagine seeing Coronation street or Jeremy Kyle in 3D that would be a right laugh.

But in all seriousness, no Ubisoft, go back under your rock

Hff. What a silly thing to say. 3D will never take off until they get rid of the glasses. No matter how hard Sony close their eyes and wish upon a star. It ain't happening. There will be some idiots who will buy 3d tvs and swear they're the doggs bollox. But that will soon pass to a annoyed moan as the owner will get fed up having to put on and take off said glasses each naffing time they have to do something else while watching tv. Like now. I have the news on the box while typing. Now to type I would have to take the glasses off. But if I want to see what the anchor monkey is dribbling about I would have to put them back on. Only to take them off the next nano second so I can continue typing. Or do you walk around your house with them on all the time? You see. This is the problem to relax you have to faff about, and if Sony really think people will go for that "mild inconvenience". Then for your next tv get rid of the remote control so people will have to get up each time to change the channel. See how quickly those babies fly off the shelves.

3D is a gimmick and why do we need 3D, I'm fine with regular 2D its just unneccessary and frankly useless. I see it as just a waste of money. The gaming companies are always making outlandish predictions and Ubisoft are just embarresing themselves.

Ubi, I hate to break it to you, but using Sony as an example is an especially bad idea.

They don't have a great track record as far as innovations go. Anyone here remember Beta? Why did that fail? Oh yeah, they restricted the releases on the format to mostly (if not all, I forget) Sony-involved films. Many years later, the PSP came out with its UMD drive. And why did UMD fail? Oh yeah, nothing but Sony pictures (that changed later I think, but WAY after it flopped). Not to mention the numerous 'intentions' for their systems that never quite come to fruition.

Any horse they bet on for new consumer-grade tech, you can bet will fail. They should stick with what they've been good at: Improving stuff that already exists.

I know plenty of people who don't have HDTVs and won't until the price comes down a bit more and I predict that #D won't really start selling until its price comes down more which will be in another few years. It's possible, but I don't think it's likely.

Sure, everyone will have one.

But it'll have to be connected to the internet all the time or it'll turn off.

Honestly, I'm surprised how many people seem to think that images in the same number of dimensions that we normally see are somehow a gimmick. It seems inevitable that they'll take over some day.

However, that day isn't today, and it won't be by 2013 either. That's just flat out stupid.

That would be a no. My family still has a properly working fat TV we got back in 2002, and we have no intention of trading it in for a 3D TV. Even if it broke or we wanted to replace it, we'd probably get a Blu-Ray or a regular HDTV.

Even as a relatively early adopter to this kind of tech I'm unlikely to get 3d till 2015. I can only imagine this is some kind of mistake, no-one could be so clueless.

That prediction was pretty bad. We all knew that HD was coming about 1-2 years ago because a ton of shows kept saying available in HD. However, there are no 3D shows I have seen yet, and so far I have only seen 3D with animated shows meaning that they don't appeal to anyone over the age of 12. Just remember what spurred 3D back into style: having HD at home made people go to theaters less because they had the same technology at home. I think that 3D will be cinemas ace in the hole for a while now. It will be interesting to see what the cinema's will have to invent after that to keep people from watching at home.

I don't know.

Somehow, someone decided that 3D is TEH SHIT right now, but I really don't get it. It stinks, and it's as unnecessary as things can get.

Honestly I fully expect 3d to have died as a gimmick (again, making it what the fourth time?) by then. Is anyone not sick of it already? It's impressive once or twice, but after that it's just a worse-quality picture that gives you a headache.

Even if it sticks around, I know people who didn't even upgrade to a DVD player until last year (and that was only because it was cheaper than finding a working VCR someone wanted to get rid of). They sure as **** aren't going to pay the price of a used car for a 3D tv you need glasses to use.

Uh, who said everyone has HDTV? In my country almost all TV channels are still in sd. By 2013 we may have HD quality on most TV channels (or maybe not), but there is no way we will have any channels in 3d.

Yes, but this is the company that made a game about the dog whisperer. Is anyone really surprised?

That's impossible. `Everyone' implies me as well, and I certainly won't have a 3D TV in my living room in 2013. I mean, what's 3DTV good for anyway? The only thing I do on my TV is play my PS2 and watch my VHS tapes.
