Now before all atheists get arsey with me, I happen to agree with a lot of what atheists believe. It's when it's all BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME THEREFORE IT ISN'T RIGHT that makes me want to go on a murderous rampage. "Faith" means it doesn't have to make sense, your mind fills in the blanks and sidesteps those holes. I'd like to point out a common example of this not used in religion (that I've actually spent some years studying). HEY ever watch a film? Ever sit down and think, "that is so unbelievable how X went and blew up Y with a police car ramming into it"? I'm willing to bet that on the majority most people didn't, instead they were trying to engage with the characters and focus on the plot. In hindsight maybe but at the time you don't really go into a film and try to pick out all the stupid elements, you go to enjoy something. Well think of "Faith" like that, it's more that you're so focused on the big picture instead of the nitty gritty details.
I personally don't care about religion one way or the other so don't get on me too much, but equivociating glossing over plot holes while watching a movie with beliefs that people live there lives by and have shaped history with scares me. I would hope we'd scrutinize something we base our lives and morals on a little more than why Rambo never has to reload. Also, it's not just 'ignoring little details', there a lot of inconsistencies and illogic that bothers non-believers.
My point is that a believer can gloss over these details on the point that they believe it for whatever reason, be that a dream about Jesus or whatever. I'm not saying it's right, it's just this guy was going on for about a good 5 pages on how he doesn't understand "Faith" and how it's beneficial. However it is a valid point that what believers take for granted is sometimes what deters non-believers. Still, so long as they don't force it upon you, like I say, I don't have an issue with it.

Also with regards to the comparing to film thing, it was meant to simplify the matter, trufully it can't be simplified but, hey I try...

I always put 'no' whenever the religion part is asked.

Same goes for my 'race', I put 'American' or 'Human'.
I'm not a freaking mountain range and I don't like the term 'half breed' or 'mixed breed'.

Caught you.

Its generally a bad idea to announce BOS membership. Announcing that is akin to announcing your in the Enclave, who are also enemies of NCR. Factions, not religions. The west coast BOS does however have a big church with plasma screens. That reminds me, I shall put down "Hubologist" in the census when it comes around. If anyone knows what a Hubologist is, they get a cookie.
We must do it all for the Great Wheel, as we are the spokes, and as the whell turns, the ones on the Rim shall be crushed.

However...As a Powder Ganger also, I'm gonna pay you NCR scum back for lockin' me up! (Couldn't fnd pic, and I have the PS3 version :p)

OT: Look, if people want more faith related stuff, they shouldn't have to wait around for a Census, and since the information isn't anonymous, people might not want to put themselves as Atheist or whatever. Being a Jedi is a mask, and now it's a recognised religion. Times are changing.

then why does the bible condone slavery?
Because the bible was written in a time where lots of people chose to be slaves, rather than live on the streets and starve. It doesn't condone mistreatment of slaves and such, it constantly tells masters to be kind to their slaves. You have to view the bible in a historical and cultural context, you can't just throw out random comments like that or else you're bond to not understand a lot of what it has to say. hope this helps :)

They're preying on their own. "Jedi," is the snarky atheist answer.

The goal here is probably to get them to claim, "atheist" instead so this lobby can boost their own numbers and say, "see?! See how many people are not actually religious! We win the popularity contest! Ban religion now, pls."

But then, I imagine somebody said that more than once in the past 22 pages.

I don't see how claiming to be a Jedi is anymore ridiculous than claiming to be a christian, muslim, hindu.

This level of atheism makes all of us live and let live atheists look bad =\

(no, I didn't read the whole thread :p)

I think a good number of them might be answering seriously. You know how star wars geeks are.

No.... Do explain why they wouldn't just be doing it for the lulz.

[sub]My guess is that its about 60/40 split between atheists and geeks.[/sub]

I'm surprised how badly they can take a joke. It's not as if the govt isn't going to be able to tell how seriously you take religion if you actually put down 'Jedi' in a census.

I can't imagine too many atheists worth their salt would be hypocritical/stupid enough to say 'ban all religion'.

Speaking as an atheist, I can understand why people write in Jedi. It's all very funny to be facetious in such a silly, ridiculous manner, and the novelty of it is all very interesting.

That said, as an atheist I also feel that people shouldn't be doing this. This census data is important, and is actually used for things. If the UK government believes there are enough atheists there, then the atheists of the United Kingdom may finally get some much-deserved political representation.

Ha, what a joke.

The campaign is so poorly written I'd consider putting myself as "jedi" just to spite them.

If I lived in Britain and hadn't thought of putting Jedi before, I certainly would be now. May the force be with you, people of the UK.
