As someone who's avoided spunkgargleweewee since Battlefield 3, could someone enlighten me as to why this is a big pile of stinking shit, and Battlefield 4's 30GB requirement isn't?
Because other next gen games (namely Assassins Creed 4, a big open world series) have been around the same size as Battlefield 4 and people are wondering if this big an increase means this is a crappy port or not.

In all fairness though, 50GB are going to amount to a 15-20GB download on digital download platforms due to compression, which is... still bloody huge.

Okay, I got nothing.

Have there been any indications that Call of Doggy will not have large maps/textures/meshes/dog hair physics? Anybody who's played it at the 'cons who can corroborate whether the graphics presented in demos does not in any way justify 50GB? I'm seriously intrigued, because IIRC the last COD I played wasn't so resource hungry.

This game is as big as Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition and Shogun 2 with all the DLC combined. The question now is will it be as good as both of those games combined? I don't think so, harddrive space is a precious resource better spent on several quality games that'll provide far more enjoyment. Sadly I also see this is the future of games, fact of the matter is I remember when quality games were under 500Mb and that still took up 25% of my old harddrive. Games have been growing and will continue to do so. I would guess it's because of the new consoles pushing everyone's minimum requirements up to their level, it was fine when everyone had a PC that could outperform an xbox 360 but now the new goal is gonna be to outperform the xbox one at a minimum.

Good fucking geez; not even my Garry's Mod stuff takes up that much space. This is ridiculous.

All the space is probably for its "super hyper realistic fish-moving-away-from-you technology" and "real time dog shitting" gameplay.

Holy Jesus, that's a lot of bytes.
Justified? The point is, so many people often complain about textures not being hi-res enough, assuming this is the main reason behind the size bloat will people complain for textures being _too much_ hi-res?

Holy fuck.

That's in the realm of literally not having enough hard drive space to have the game. What fucking insanity is this.

At 30 KB/s it would be more like 20.2 days :p
And yeah without images with 30kb/s it should take a few seconds only so that works.
That's assuming that the stupid internet connection is stable...
which is required by law as per service contract.
Internet connections are required to be stable? Fuck, I really need to tell my provider to get their shit together. Up here in Minnesota Frontier Net is the only show in town so their speeds really suffer during high traffic times. You'd be surprised how often our internet just completely dies and we're just left with LAN for the day.

Dear fucking god, that is 1/3 of my god damn broadband data cap for ONE FUCKING GAME!

They really need to reign in this space bloat.
That is 5/6 of my monthly cap.

Also, if they require an install for the X1, will it not be ludicrous considering they only have 500GB hard drive? Yet another reason I'm staying away from launch consoles.

That's over the amount of space that League takes up, but that's the only game which I'm using as a reference. This is still kind of too much, though.
League takes up 3-4gb... Really bad reference.

A better one would be any MMO released lately, which are usually 30-45gb.
Wait, how'd you do that? Mine's 30gb?

Holy crap, what? They can't be serious, Call of Duty: Ghosts should and could not be that big of a game to justify it.

Fucking christ, excuse me?
That's coming up to MMO size. Hell, that's bigger than older MMOs, what the fuck's using all that space?
Killzone 3 is like 43GB, but that has some massive, uncompressed audio files, I'd wager thats why. Or a shit load of dummy files to deter pirates and punish people downloading it via Steam.

Also: 780, ahahaha no. No way in hell does this game require a 780 to max out, I'll take my 670 and likely smoke it.

Wasn't planning on touching CoD Game number #516 anyway but this just seals the deal for me, same goes for Ass-assins creed 4, What is taking up all this information? I don't have a 4 TB harddrive lying around and I certainly don't have enough money for one, so their goes 2 games I am now DEFINITELY not buying

I... I... what were they thinking? Black Ops 2 already didn't sell nearly as well as well as they wanted it too so now they do this?

I mean in all seriousness, they're programming for new consoles so the games probably won't perform at their absolute best. So we could very well be left with a buggy 50 gig game.

On a side note, maybe this isn't a terrible thing though. COD has been the same thing over and over since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Maybe this time around they did something different. I doubt it and I'm not even going to be hopeful they did (most of that space is probably the ai for the dog as someone said on this thread earlier) but there is that small chance.

You know, maybe the next-gen will inadvertently revive physical PC sales. Because holy fuck, 50gb?! My internet weeps at the mere mention of it.

50 meg would only take a couple of minutes to download at the most. 50 gig a couple of hours.
If you have a decent internet, and are connected into a good enough router, or possibly the modem itself.
If I were to try and download this, it'd take at least a whole day for me.
A day? You lucky person. It'll take a whole fucking month at least for me.

YIKES! And here I thought Hitman: Absolution's 24GB file size was absurd! It's not even half of this!

They are just partitioning off the extra space all the dlc and micro-transactions will take up. When you buy the game it probably pre-installs all the dlc and just blocks it off. That way when you are really in the mood to spend $15 on three maps and some guns you don't have to deal with all those pesky download times. They are making it easier for you to give them money!
