HD space maybe, but those other specs seem a little odd. If you can play Quake 3 you can play CoD

That's coming up to MMO size. Hell, that's bigger than older MMOs, what the fuck's using all that space?
GW2 is just under 17gigs on my drive.

50 gigs is... Idk, someone say something clever about bloated game development.

Maybe all the cutscenes are now pre-rendered 1080p uncompressed video?

That's the only thing I can think of that could push a game like COD over the 20GB mark - Skyrim with loads of mods rarely breaches 20.

Maybe they are squeezing in Battlefield style multi player maps along with the typical COD stuff.

Not that i'll be buying, not at that HDD demand anyway, and since i wont buy a next gen console for another year or two, ill pick it up when COD ghosts 2 comes out for PS4

Dem fish better be realistic.

Seriously though, there's no way to justify a 50 GB game unless it's open world/mmorpg. And I thought Max Paybe 3 was a HDD hog already.

Sure there is. High end graphics. Realistic breast physics for the new female soldiers. Advanced AI. They could be using NVIDIA's new face rendering technology. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvaGd4KqlvQ] They could be running advanced wave generations to accurately portray water or sand. They could be using a dynamic AI director, in the vein of Left 4 Dead, in order to dynamically change maps. They could be doing realistic bullet detection with regards to materials, angles and anatomy(eg. bone and organs,) including ricochets. They could have a few large pre-rendered videos. They could also have a large degree of scalability allowing for lower end rigs to still run it properly(albeit with the added necessity of larger HD size.)

Just becomes something is a focused narrative(with multiplayer) doesn't mean it magically has to be smaller. Theres plenty of things to do HD space.

I mean Infinity Ward is the developer who realistically portrayed every aspect of zero gravity in the mission Turbulence, including each individual cartridge ejected from your gun and the gun clip on reload floating in the air. They are quite dedicated to making each individual aspect of the game an absolutely perfect reflection of reality.

That's over the amount of space that League takes up, but that's the only game which I'm using as a reference. This is still kind of too much, though.
League takes up close to 50 gigs ?! What the hell...

OT: I'm not too surprised to be honest. A lot of the space might be the amount of detail being put into character models, expanded environments, etc. The fact that it requires at least a gtx 550ti should be proof of how graphically intensive this game is going to be.

Touche sir, I admit defeat, if only they actually put weight behind the guns and ditched the ketchup-on-screen-regenerative health.

To really honest with you, it rather sounds like a 1:1 port of the Xbone version, but it's to early to judge.

Edit: There's a 50/50 chance it uses groundbreaking tech OR making a rubbish port on outdated tech.

Apparently Activision think that pirates are too cheap to afford decent internet and/or HDDs.

Jesus. This new console generation has me checking the system requirements again. Do you people have any idea how long it's been since I've had to do that?

*Chokes on drink* WHAT?! 50!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
What the fuck is using all that space? The physics of the dog? The graphics of the dog? The Fish A.I.? No seriously, how can you possibly manage to make a game like COD demand 50 gigs? The biggest game I've seen was TERA Online which was 30 Gigs, and that's a huge MMO. And Recommended video card GTX 780? You're telling people that they're going to need the most expensive card (excluding the TITAN) on the market right now to run your game on recommended settings? FOR CALL OF DUTY!? I call a big hefty amount of bs on this, and if it's NOT bs, then everyone should stay away from this game, at least on PC. The fuck is this?!

At my average internet speed that would take about 2 days 4 hours to download, and that's if I'm downloading it 24/7 at full speed.

I bet it's the dog. 30GB just to the dog-related animations.
And despite that, there will still be at least one bug that causes him to landshark.
I didn't know what landsharking was, so I looked it up. I'm presuming you don't mean what Urban Dictionary is defining the term as; although that would make things interesting and certainly worth the 50 gigs.
Hahaha. No, that's not it.

I'm showing my age a little here: 'landsharking' was the term for a bug in Medal of Honour: Allied Assault where if you pressed a certain key combination whilst jumping off a ladder, you'd go prone and most of your body would disappear under the floor - kind of like noclip.

It's made for the new, more powerful console generation and everything is super detailed. You have realistic dog fur and everything. Previously the PC version would maybe have hi-res textures but since the PC master race is fairly small, they didn't work very hard to utilise the PC's power. But the next gen consoles are as good as most PCs, so they utilise the PC's power by default. And with incredible detail comes incredible storage requirements.
