This just reinforces my belief that hackers live in their mothers' basements. Course everyone giving Microsoft flak for having Hotmail hacked instead of Gmail, I can tell you right now that there are a lot more people trying to get into Microsoft's emails than Google's.

That reminds me, I got an email roughly a month ago supposedly from the windows live team about some sort of hacking scheme that had happened at the time and that they needed my account password verified through their email or something or I face having my email account deleted.

Well, needless to say that amidst all the spelling and grammatical errors that I found all over their message, they never got my password. It's been a long time too since and I still have my email address.

I'm thinking of switching services sometime soon though.

Ditto.

I've actually have changed all my passwords now.
Can't be too careful sometimes.
Do you have a universal password? One for every account?

I have several for different ones so I really don't think I need to worry.
people can't remember that many passwords
Well, I work with repeat passwords on different accounts. And I don't find it that hard to remember anyways. I have... 4 or 5 different ones.
The problem I used to find if I had multiple passwords is I can go weeks or as long as 6 months without ever logging into a service since it either remembers my log in or I have just not ordered from there recently. But if I do suddenly want to use ebay or for some reason I get logged off, I can't remember the unique password.

If I used all my services every day and logged in again each day, I could remember up to 10 different passwords, but that's not the case.

Meh, I don't really care if someone reads my emails, not like there's anything interesting to see.

It seems to be larger than first thought.

The scale of a phishing attack originally thought to be directed at Hotmail may be larger than previously thought.

BBC News has seen a list of more than 20,000 more names and passwords that have been posted online.
The list contains e-mail addresses and passwords from Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, Gmail and other service providers.

There's a typo on the last line Mr. Funk, the second "type" should be "time". Either way, just changed my password to be on the safe side.

Even if you're not the type to be caught by a phishing scam, it seems like now is the type to change your email password.

changed my password just to be safe. though do i have to change the password on my xbox now as well?
If you have your Xbox connect to Messenger, it will probably complain about being able to connect. Open your Guide, go to Chat, flip over to Messenger, and select Connect, and it should ask you for your new password there.

Google, here: https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount

Yahoo, here: http://profiles.yahoo.com/ (roll over "Account info" and click "Change Password")

And that is exactly why I made a spare email account through Googlemail...

But shit, "mostly in europe", and there I was for a while thinking I was safe because "This kinda stuff only ever happens to americans."

Damnit...

Although, in fairness they're free to look at my spam emails and play.com newsletters, that's all I get anyway...

Dammit, Gmail too? Well that's just GREAT. Good thing I know to be suspicious of anyone who actually wants to speak with me.
