Another fire/fighting... Ugh -.- not going fire again...

Now water blew me away, if these are in fact real (Won't believe it until other sources come out.) than i'm going water, grass alright but I expected a grass dragon with dragon wings and junk, like grass/dragon or grass/flying type. But its still cool, just getting tired of fire/fighting.

I have always chosen Water types except for when I had Pokemon Red (chose Charmander). Never chosen Grass, not sure why. Anyways, hopefully will get a DS before this is released, and I shall evolve my otter!

I like where the Grass and Water starters go. Not so much the Fire starter.

Then again, I'm hoping that this time the non-fire starters will get some more love; I haven't bee particularly impressed with the grass starter since Venusaur, and I cannot think of a time where I ever took the water starter except to trade out.

Wow.
these look Awesome!

Though i cant help but think that the Artists were playing Spectrobes while designing them.
And that's not really a bad thing.

Spectrobes gave me a Cactus Dragon.
CACTUS.
DRAGON.
And it is one of the coolest things i have ever seen.
The water type reminds me of
Just not quite as cool.
I quite like spectrobes I can't think of a cactus dragon though I have only played the first two. one thing I like about spectrobes is that each game is a clear improvement (the one for the wii looks like a improvement)
I see where you get the thought from especially with the fire one. which starter are you getting I'm gone get the pig starter (not calling it the fire starter) so i can have a demonic (as well as Greek) pig called Mr.Bacon.
The Cactus Dragon is called Saboquill, its freaking powerful and, to me at least, looks awesome.
He is in the Wii Spectrobes and yes, its a HUGE improvement.
Its like a mix of Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star.
I love they way Spectrobes did something a little different with the Pet Battle Genra and the Spectrobs designs are all pretty cool and unique.
And ill be going with the Grass starter.
I just like the way it looks.

This improved my opinion of these starters (Except the fire one, who looks stupid regardless), but I still think the game will stink. The last good pokemon game IMO was Emerald. The last REALLY good pokemon game was Crystal. I think the series has had its day and is now killing time between now and when Nintendo finally stops caring about it.

The grass one actually looks intruiging, the water starter looks freaking ridiculous and shows no resemblance to it's first form in any way, and if THAT's the best firestarter you can come up with, please go back to kindergarten...

Just my humble opinion, but hey, I'll probably buy the game, just like a junky will always buy his crack...

Also, I only just noticed the Prodigy pun. 'Twas unintended.

when will these creators just sit down for five minutes take a good long look into each others eyes and just unamamously agree to just let the pokemon series die with whatever dignity it still has left rather than scrape it out over another few bad remakes.
In the real world Timmy, money has the biggest influence on everything!

And we all know that as long the pkmn series can sell then they will always exist.
But I'm going to sell my soul and go for the water starter :3

I fear for the universe.

Smugleaf's evolution is even more smug. Warning! Critical smug mass! Universe to collapse in particularly self satisfied black hole!

Gahh...these are terrible, especially the pig, they've already based pokemon on fat guys e.g. Makuhita and Snorlax.
How does the otter change from a slightly bigger otter into some sea unicorn?

If they make another Fire/Fighting starter, I'm going to use Mega Kick on Gamefreak's Pokéballs.

Basically, by evolving, it looks like the otter pokemon would be losing out on some moves, something that's never happened in previous pokemon games.
That has happened in EVERY previous Pokémon game.

There are so many many examples I can use, but I'll just pick the first one I thought of, which also happens to be a starter.

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/256.shtml

Torchic can learn Flamethrower at level 43. However, evolve it into Combusken and it can no longer learn Flamethrower by leveling up. Combusken also learns moves that Torchic can't.

Again, this happens all the time. You can find plenty of examples in each generation if you look.
yeah, that's what I thought you meant. That wasn't what I was trying to say. Yes Torchic can learn flamethrower on it's own and Blaziken can't, but it can be taught flamethrower through a TM. And about the Combusken thing, I'm talking about pre-evolved forms knowing moves that the next evolution couldn't possibly learn.

Basically what I was trying to say is, imagine if Dragonite evolved into Dragonair. Dragonite can learn Ice Punch while Dragonair can't for obvious reasons. If a Dragonite knowing Ice Punch evolved into Dragonair, I can't see how it would still be able to know Ice Punch.
Um, Dragonair evolves into Dragonite, not the other way round.
OT: Wow, the water one looks cool. I thought I was gonna get grass, but now I don't know.
Fire one looks really bad though.

Seriously, that's the fire evolution? Come on! I don't care if people hated the fire/fighting combo, that pokemon was friggin' cool. Isn't the water pokemon supposed to be the ugly one? What happened. What, happened.

Did you not see how I said "Imagine". It was an example. Didn't think I'd have to spell it out.

When I get my own Smugleaf, I may have to name him something really smug and arrogant. Like "Reginald" or something to that effect.

I really like the grass so far and the water the fire never really grew on me tough.
I really hope that the fire starter aint the final product but by the looks of it its set in stone.

Too bad that the grass type evolves in Grass/Dragon, it is never going to see competitive play, 4x weakness against Ice is what destroys most dragon types. Seeing as the Grass one is the only good looking evo though, I'll still use him for the actual game but he won't be making my competitive team.

Yeah lord knows being the second largest video game franchise in the entire world isn't enough to suggest that you are clutching at a minority opinion there.

I support your opinion in the beginning, but that last thought is pretty much a flop given the reality. I suspect pokemon will be around for much longer than just about any "better" video game series and will make much more in that time.

Probably because the balancing is well done and the species spread makes sense. I don't "get" a lot of the new monsters from time to time but most of the complaints I have are entirely the same as nearly everyone elses complaints, entirely motivated by nostalgia.

That said, I'd love to see changes, but most games have shown me that change rarely means better. It tends to mean stripped functionality, less variation, and less content. The fact that Pokemon hasn't changed dramatically at any one installment likely has to do with them being smarter than their competitors who produce a flop in hopes of "mixing it up."

If you want to mix things up, start a new franchise. That way I can go "well this isn't too bad of a game" instead of "This is terrible compared to the first one."

Just my thoughts, much like yours were just your thoughts :p.

How does the otter change from a slightly bigger otter into some sea unicorn?
First...come on naw...Makuhita is a surfing sumo wrestler. How is that not great?

Secondly...how does X turn into Y?

The same way a small weak fish turns into a big strong dragon.
or a small ugly fish turns into a big pretty dragon.
Or a worm with a clown nose turns into a dragon.
Or the same way 3 of a pokemon sticking to one another makes a new pokemon.
the same way one pokemon can spontaneously go from 2 arms to 4, or from 4 arms to 2.
or sprout a third head.
or change from a fluffy sheep into an electric alien thing
or from a pupa thing into a rock dragon godzilla monster who kicked ass in junior high.
the same way a little fleshy springy thing can convert into a bipedal pig.

Kudos to people who know what all these are without having to look. You are probably at that point where I am where you say "The things I could have spent all that time on."

Wow, this game has just jumped up to a launch day purchase for me. I can only hope that the battle mechanics get an overhaul for the loyal competitive (shoddy) community. The Phys/Special and Defensive splits have made the game so much more fun and deep than the original ones.

Nostalgia is the little voice in your head that wrongly tells you that a series was better before it started innovating.

And yet it looks like a kick-ass Mexican Serpent-Dragon-Thingy.
