Nothing says "hardcore" like sitting in a pitch dark room playing Modern Warfare 2 on a television with the lowest light setting with these on. Your friends are going to high-five and worship you forever!

I think I'll manage with the standard edition, thank you very much.

Can't comment on their cost in specific. But I know from my Navy days that good night vision goggles runs a couple grand and the pair I used crossing the Panama Canal were only single mode.
I'll take your word for it and invest in some good ones and not rely on what I got inside a game box.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about the goggles performing like they look (although they do look awesome).

I'm guessing that the special edition will be around $200-250 USD (I couldn't imagine them charging much more), so the goggles will probably work like these.

I've been pricing out night vision optics, and this is the best that I could find without going up to generation 3 (military/law enforcement grade) gear. I like this perticular one because of all the accesories that it can be mounted too, or expanded with (headset, rifle scope, IR laser).
The special edition night vision goggles actually look alot like the goggles in your link. So maybe this will only cost around 200 bucks.

Next thing you know, Halo: Reach - Kickass edition will come with a full working model of Mark V power armor, complete with titanium plates, and magnetic shields. Starcraft 2 - Apocalypse edition will come with a living zergling egg. BFME 3: The one edition to rule them all will come with the actual ring of power. And a disclaimer absolving the developers of any responsibility of any potential Nazgul attacks.
I lol'd at this

I need to get a job, desperately. I want to get this, and the collectors edition for Batman: Arkham Asylum, so I'm not gonna have much money by the end of the year.

Wow Activision is really smart. I'm going to make a guess and say the NVG pack will cost about 150-200$. Now as we all know the goggles will probably just be a 50$ cheaply made set of NVG's. Now think about that they will be making 20-70 extra bucks on every packet sold, and lets face it they did this only for the console crowd for a reason kids like to pretend to be in the army. So now that every kid in America is pissing them selfs screaming in anticipation for these "fully functional" set of goggles to be available they are now telling there mom's to go and pre order this new set. Well plaid Activision well plaid.

I don't think I'll be picking this up any time soon. Seems like a useless waste of money if you ask me.

Besides, if I wanted a pair of NVGs like that, I could probably pick one of these up from Ebay, or something along those lines.

Uh, that's...what's the phrase? Batshit insane? At least you can buy the lower editions, for now.

Alternate modes? What does he mean alternate modes? On and off?

If they were heat vision, I'd be all over those.

Ohhhhh boy. If I was rich/ stupid enough, I'd pre-order that right away.

Sure the goggles wont be high quality, but I'm not gonna be conducting nighttime military operations on my back garden, so meh, they just look fucking cool.

As it stands, I think I'll go for the "Hardened" Edition *suppresses childish chuckle at the use of the word hardened* cos I'm a sucker for steel cases and art books...

You have to admit, they've put some real thought into the special editions for all gamers of the Modern Warfare series, new, fans or hardcore alike.

I have noticed one thing from that Soap McTavish head display; he is the guy in the trailers with the mohekan hair do.

The temptation, I HAS it. Activision and IW wouldn't be able to live this down if they weren't at least a functional "fun to mess around with" pair of NVGs. I'm going to guess $150 for the package, I've used a pair of $80 NVGs that worked surprisingly well.
