I mean, I AM a white, middle class heterosexual male, and the only thing I have to do to see all the crazy civil rights shenanigans still going on is to look around me and PAY ATTENTION.
A shame more people don't do that.

I'm part of my college's pride organization and I call myself a feminist and read feminist literature and volunteer my time tutoring kids in the projects down the street, and all sorts of other hippie things, but all I ever seem to get for it is shit. Like I'm somehow a poser because I care about things other than myself. Seriously. I have a shirt that says "This is what a feminist looks like" and I've been accused, so many times I stopped counting, of wearing it "just to get laid."
Well, damn, of course. Why else would you support women's rights?

I agree that too many people think ignoring things makes them go away.
I feel the need to post an excerpt from "Sweet Janine," a song from Jeffrey Gaines:

Well you're skating on a figure of eight
While there's pain and there's hate at your feet
And your Daddy's made clear
That there's nothing to fear
At least here on your street
I don't want to darken your door
I wouldn't want you shedding a tear dear
But you've got everything and still you want more
You could learn a little sharing
And just a tad of caring I fear
Sweet Janine what have you seen
And are you for real
Sweet Janine where have you been
And what do you feel?

Also, I didn't notice how funny all the accusing the Wall Street protesters of being hippies was until you mentioned that. Maybe we need to come up with an even wider hateful term for people who make a stand when something troubles them!
Its easier to pretend they're all hippies. :)

Early on, there were a lot of people at the "occupy" rallies who are or were Tea Partiers. It's absurd to try and play this up as a liberal thing, let alone a hippie-specific thing, but it's easy to just to stereotype, dismiss, and move on.

But really, who else would organise and protest, except them dirty hippies?

Political correctness. Full stop. Organic food, "we don't keep score," and extremism, zealotry, or fundamentalism of any kind.

They are not cars, you are NOT correctly licensed to drive one unless you hold at least an LR.
I parked my F150 next to a 2011 Honda Accord. They were the same size and they weigh the same.
Good for you skippy. Now tell me the brakes are the same and the handling is the same as well.

There is no extra hazard to you because of my 25 year old pickup.
Height difference, mostly. Or do you deny that your vehicle sits higher?

Stop trying to tell me I shouldn't be able to drive it because you don't like it.
We've covered this, but in short, no. You'll learn, either way.

Buy whatever shitty little supermicro you want, I don't care.
Excellent, then you're amenable to driving a vehicle that will still protect you without killing the other guy. Although it's quite telling that you automatically assume a smaller car is "shitty." Feeling a bit small elsewhere, hmm?

Your car, your rules. But stay the fuck out of my business
Again lad, we've covered this elsewhere.

if I want to own a pickup truck you have no right to tell me what I can and cannot drive.
Absolutely I do - recall that whole "demonstrably more intelligent than average" part. Entitles me to many, many things, including your women.

On top of that, I actually use my truck as a mother fucking truck. I tow shit with it, I push broken cars around, I carry heavy loads, and when the weather turns to shit and my mom's minivan breaks down yet again it is absolutely irreplaceable.
ASTOUNDING! You're perhaps in the 2 or 3% that ACTUALLY USE THE VEHICLE FOR WHAT IT'S INTENDED.

Hell, just two days ago I saved my friend a couple hundred bucks and helped him move, something I wouldn't have been able to do without a truck. On top of that, it's paid off, it's stone cold reliable, it's easy to maintain, and it puts a smile on my face every time it fires up.
Good for you skippy - my car gives me a smile every time it fires up too. Mostly because I know I'm paying a shit-tonne less to drive it than others while still enjoying superior performance.

At the very least, said dumb-fucks would be restricted from owning one.
And they're any less hazardous for the rest of us in a four thousand pound sedan as opposed to a four thousand pound pickup? Really? I fail to see your logic here. Doesn't matter what shape it is, two tons of plastic and computers is gonna hurt when it slams into your trunk lid.
In this, we don't disagree - the issue lies in WHERE that momentum is directed. Deny, if you would please, that the average pick-up sits higher than the average sedan.

You seem to think the problem is the vehicle. It isn't. It's the person driving it. They're a hazard in anything, doesn't matter the size. They're texting while driving, they're blitzed behind the wheel, putting on makeup, eating cereal, reading the paper, smacking the kids, adjusting the radio and getting laid instead of driving. They're going to crash regardless.
Given we know this (and believe me, we don't disagree on this) does it not make sense to limit the harm that can be caused? Risk management, it's pretty simple. I'd rather be hit by someone applying makeup in there *ahem* shitty supermicro than their pickup.

Surely you know what you're doing, so you wouldn't have anything to worry about, right?
Doesn't mean I should have to get a seperate license just because my vehicle of choice has a metal box on the back. And hey, lemme throw ya a curve ball:

Your proposed draconian regulation would put owners of that thing, which has a measly little 2.2L I4, gets 30MPG, weighs about 2500 pounds or so and is roughly the size of a small hatchback, to get some sort of heavy vehicle license. Way to go!
Absolutely you should - IT IS NOT A CAR, IT IS NOT WHAT YOU ARE LICENSED FOR. IT IS A TRUCK.

It does not brake like a car. It does not accelerate like a car. It does not handle like a car. And it does not hit in the same manner as a car.

Pardon me whilst I un-footnote this.
And don't try to tell me they're not common, they are. I personally know someone that has two, someone else that has one, and I see them on the road all the damn time. Americans love those little Toyotas as much as they love their Fords and Chevies, especially since they let you keep a truck and not put up with 15-17 to a gallon on average.
Yes, and if you absolutely must have a pickup, I'd suggest a hilux or a triton.

See how derptastic your idea is? It doesn't solve anything and it just discriminates against people who want a pickup truck.
It solves plenty - an aggressive driver in a hatch is still an aggressive driver. But the consequences of their stupidity is less likely to be the death of someone else. The folks that typically "want" a pickup (yours may be the rare instance where you have a genuine use for it, I'm willing to concede) are typically the last ones who should be in a pickup.

Instead of trying to legislate people into crummy little hatchbacks they don't want
Again insinuating that small cars have poor quality. I'm sensing a trend.

and forcing them to pay others to ship appliances home, just take the stupid drivers off the road.
I would love nothing better. Nothing. Incidentally, if you can't afford the shipping, maybe you shouldn't be buying to begin with...

Let those of us who can go five or six years without hitting anything have our trucks without any extra strings attached.
This is almost reasonable. I will add one string however - you remain in the (in your case) far-right lane. That's where trucks belong.

We already put up with the damn things struggling to break 15-17MPG and requiring rather expensive tires, no need to add more fees at the DMV on top of that.
And see, this is the bit that I don't understand - you accept they have poor consumption, you accept that they have additional expenses that you simply would not have if you had a real car instead of a truck ... yet you cling. Boggles the mind.

So what you're saying is, America, land of the large, is supersizing sedans too?
I'm comparing to a four door 2011 Accord. If you want to ***** about the size of that, go to Tokyo.
Euro or standard? There is a difference.

And what manner of engine/suspension mods?
Lower, stiffer, more taut, more power, more torque, proper six speed manual, roll cage, removing things like ABS, TCM, stability management and other assorted overcomplications, lightening, things like that.
Alright, I can appreciate that - I admit, I was worried you were going to jack the suspension up even higher.

Hell no. I want my power as soon as I open the throttle, not five seconds later. And I'd like to hear the engine, not a turbine.
Oh they're not that bad anymore. Hell, get a super-turbo combo if you're that worried, you'll even get better mileage out of the bargain.

To what purpose?
To carve corners. I've got the reliable old pickup for putzing around and handling snow, I want something that handles well in the dry. I don't care about economy, gas is cheap here, so I'm fine with a 7.0L supercharged Corvette engine in it.
Ok, NOW it makes sense.

Actually, being of demonstrably higher intelligence than most, yes, yes I do know what's best.
Well there goes any hint of credibility you had left. Condescending, "I'm better than you" attitudes are a sure sign of an arse, and I refuse to deal with arses.
You already are, so let's continue, shall we?

You have no business telling me, John Doe, Barack Obama, Jeremy Clarkson or Tom Cruise what to drive or how to live. You don't know our situations, you don't know our preferences, you don't have any business trying to tell us what we want.
Nor do I need to. Some things are, simply put, objectively better, regardless of situation or preference.

If you were truly as intelligent as you claim to be you wouldn't be sitting here trying to tell people you've never met and likely live in an entirely different country what they can and can't drive.
Guaranteed you live in a different country, which is meaningless to this conversation.

I don't want to come off as condescending
Mission failed, bro. Mission epically failed. You've managed to come off so condescending you broke my "Pretentiousness" meter. Spun the needle around three times and slung it out of the housing. But that's fine, because I'm not going to reply to you any further. As I just said, I don't deal with arses.
I'm guessing your sarcasm meter needs a tune-up then, eh?

Not quite. In public, there is no expectation of privacy - and the government is obliged to protect its citizens.
The government is obliged to protect them, but it isn't obliged to watch their every movement.
They're not - they're watching what you do in public. Which the government, and anyone else, is perfectly entitled to do. Seeing as, y'know, you're not in a private space.

Why not? Explain to me why it doesn't.
A balaclava, generic hoodie, generic blue jeans, generic sneakers and some generic gloves render the cameras 100% fucking useless for catching crims. 100% fucking useless.
Except by that point, they're being tracked by physical officers as well. Certain traits set off alarm bells, no?

I'm suspecting it's more you have a distrust of authority in general
I genuinely feel sorry for anyone naive enough to trust the US Government to do anything. Even something so mundane as the brand of coffee served in the white house is something they'll manage to cock up. Get the public used to constant surveillance in public and soon enough you'll get cameras on your dashboard by law. And then, once the public is used to that, they'll start putting them in your living room.
No paranoia there, not at all.

The US Government can not be trusted. End of story. They've proved this time and time again.
Any of them? Any at all? Granted, it's easy enough to tell when a politician is lying (the lips are moving) but surely that simply makes them predictable, no?

simply see "progress" as their means of increasing their control, hmm?
Progress isn't watching every single citizen take a shit in the off chance they might have a stroke or mug somebody. Progress is, say, balancing the mother fucking budget. Progress would be doing something about the corruption in the government. Progress could be measured as getting our balls out of China's hand.
You'd need to all breed far more than you do, and be willing to settle for far less to achieve that last one, unfortunately.

Fashion trends that make children look like street walking whores.

Yes, if you're 16 and older, and you want to show off a little more skin, then that's your prerogative as someone coming into adulthood, what I'm talking about is the constant look of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who wear clothing that just five years ago was popular with the prostitution sect. As a father of two girls, I will be damned if my daughters will be allowed to wear anything revealing or "sexy" until they're 16. After that, it's their choice, but by then I hope that both are going to have some sense of modesty and self respect not to dress in something that advertises free sex.
This, sorta. I don't have anything against revealing clothing, and if a 11-year old is comfortable with it, then sure, let it be.

It's just that it's really awkward for me, because if I look around and see someone between 9-12 that's walking around in hot-pants and a tank-top, then that always makes me feel like a pedophile.

There's a campaign going now "Ireland v Tobacco" which aims "to hold tobacco companies accountable for the damage they inflict on society". Fuck that, I and anyone like me chose to smoke. I'm accountable for my own actions.
It's ridiculous. It's like be suing a furniture manufacturer because I stubbed my toe on a table (which is unnecessarily painful).
That proposal to ban smoking in cars where people under 16 are present is ridiculous too. At least give people a chance to have common sense. If they can ban it in cars, what's to top them pushing the ban into private residences?

Most of these people don't even know whats going on. They just insult the occupiers because it seems cool.

Reverse Racism. Just because slavery happened, some african-americans feel like they're entitled to hate any and all white people for any reason. Also, I'm pretty sure that the white guy you're yelling at was NOT THERE, being that it was over 140 years ago.

I know that slavery was one of America's worst sins, and is truly one of the most despicable things that has happened in our history. That said, I'm sure that almost everyone knows that, so stop going on as if it's our fault.

Racism is still going on today; I'm not denying that. but being racist back doesn't help anything.

Also, DRM. It sucks.

Beauty standards placed by society/media. I think pale skinny chicks with small breasts are pretty hot. Maybee even some freckles. I just hate the amount of makeup and bullshit girls make themselves wear.

Also reality tv. Its a plague on human intelligence.

Also crocs. Seriously? I hope you all step on something sharp.

And another thing that grinds my gears is our obsession with destroying our current food strucutre for 'healthy food'. I don't want to eat your soy and grains. Give me back my Krispy Kreme you stole from my town you bastards. I am dissapoint. No matter what you eat, you all die at 80ish anyways, so why not eat tasty food.

And the whole ''get through school as fast as possible by any means merely to get a job'' trend.

The fact that so many doctors (in Ontario, Canada at least) think that anyone seeking pain managment is a junky who's just looking for a fix. No you self-righteous bastard, what I am is someone with major phisical disabilities who would like to spend a day in a state other than never ending pain. Admittedly this is more personal that societal.

On a lesser note, I get a bit peeved by the use of low-hanging shorts as a fashion statement. Guys walk around acting like they're big shots, while they look like they just got pantsed.

Apologies to the guys out there who just couldn't afford shorts that really fit.

At the risk of sounding shallow, I'm going to pick a gaming issue (as it seems all the real world ones have been done already), and say that there seems to be a trend away from polished, well-tested games and towards yearly or shorter release schedules. So many games are shipped now that are barely better than betas (sometimes with their entire multiplayer components simply not functioning), and though there are a few patches, the state of the game when the studio stops making patches is what I think it should have been prior to the first patch.

For example, twice in a row when I tried to have Ezio jump into the Tiber river, he fell through it and instead landed in the infinite ocean hidden a mile under Rome. The next time I played, I was in a mission where certain "civilians" would be marked as enemies to be knocked out in a fistfight. One of these civilians went aggro on me when marked, as usual, but the script seems to have not executed properly because the game started telling me to go anonymous to continue, even though the only aggroed NPC in the area was the target whom I was supposed to fight. I ignored the warning and proceeded to knock the guy out, and upon doing so failed the mission.

Also, a major but optional story cutscene glitches in such a way that Desmond, instead of standing where he's supposed to, has a seizure on the Animus that then traps him in the Animus' geometry when the cutscene ends. Luckily, one can still get back to Ezio from here, but still, a major cutscene was left in this state? (Yes, this same glitch is experienced by quite a few more people than me. I get the impression that to reproduce it, all one has to do is play the game and solve the Truth puzzles)

This is not a finished product. It's not even a repaired product. This is a preliminary release candidate at best, but for some reason this is what we have after nearly a year and several patches.

This is where I've seen games going for the last decade, and it's already at the point where it is sometimes difficult to end a gaming session feeling anything other than frustration and disappointment. I would prefer to end them with a sense of "that was fun". That feeling becomes less common as the years go on, and I would like to see that trend reversed.

All this whining about feminazis and reverse racism.

I know, I know, us white males are treated so poorly and made fun of by every black comedian ever, it's such a fucking travesty, dude.

Honestly, I dont care. Pretty much everyone I (personally) know who has ever said anything about reverse racism, how radical/wrong/one-sided/discriminative feminism is, misandry or anything the like has been a white male in a good situation in life, either living at home with their parents, working a decent job, or studying something. Im pretty sure most of these have never been bullied or oppressed in any meaningful way by either anyone without a dick or with another skin colour. They just want something to whine about so they can feel smart and free-thinking.(I have no source for that) But they really have no idea what theyre talking about. (or at least that's how it seems) Most of them dont know what it's like to be oppressed, or to be the target of racism or prejudice. Or they've felt a little, and all of a sudden they're the biggest victims.

Now I know, I know, some of the points made by people like this are pretty justifiable. And I too feel we should strive for an equal society. It just really annoys me how "popular", in lack of a better word, this has become, especially among young white men, the kind who really know nothing about what it is like to be treated the way they think they are being treated. As it is now, a white male is in general the "best" thing you can be born as. ("That's just the feminazi propaganda showing just how brainwashed you are")

Disclaimer:
1. This is not aimed towards anyone who is actively bullied or looked-down upon in their community, no matter race, gender or species. If you actually, honestly are oppressed or treated differently and worse than others, this is not meant to fuck with you.
2. This applies equally to young women who go on and on about how men are bastards. Having an opinion like this into the extreme isn't good, no matter what it is. Same thing goes for anyone of a particular ethnicity going on and on. The reason I'm mainly annoyed with the kind I am, is because of the reasons I went on and on and fucking on about above.
3. WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA
4. Chill out, dudes. Also, arguing on the internet is useless. (So is this post) Have a sandwich instead. Make it yourself. You'll get a feeling of accomplishment.

ADDITIONAL RANTY-RANT-RANT ABOUT POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AND EVERYONE GOING ON WHINING ABOUT IT:
The reason we have such a thing as political correctness is because a society and a government must be able to discuss and deal with things objectively: Political correctness needed to become a thing because old laws and old traditions mostly only were about (white) men. But a just and equal justice or legal system can not exist if the law isn't written so it encompasses everyone. A law can say "any man with a car as high as a kite can ride the roller-coasters" and people would be trying to make a woman with a car as high as a kite stay off the roller-coasters, because the law said "any MAN". What you say in the privacy of your fecking home is your business. But in a multicultural environment and a world with so many different people, it's kind of important. Dont go on offending people. It's just unnecessary. Also, try to be understanding. (that applies to all of us) Third, watch MovieBoB's thingamabob about political correctness. Just to get his opinion.

Alright, shit. This was time I could have spent doing something fun. Oh well, it's good to vent now in a while. Take it easy, everyone.

EDIT: Seems people already made this point, and a lot clearer than I did. This pleases me.

Then there is the annoying habit of people throwing respect to the dead, regardless of whether they deserved it or not. I know that speaking ill of the dead is in poor taste, but glorifying them undeservedly is just as bad.
Oh lord yes! Living in Britain when Jade Goody died, people were painting her as some kind of saint. She wasn't, all she did was go on Big Brother, say something racist then whore out her personal image for money and attention.

Yet when I happened to mention that fact, apparently I'm "disrespecting the dead" and she should be worshipped because "she inspired lots of women to get checked out for cancer." I maintain that Jade didn't do that, as any celebrity who got diagnosed with cancer would "inspire" the exact same damn reaction.

OT: Elections increasingly just becoming popularity contests. Time was during an election you would vote for the person who had the best policies and the best stance on the raised issues. Nowadays "what policies do they have" takes a back seat to "how well can they spin those policies and appeal to my demographic." I understand the trend, it just annoys me. If someone is going to fix the economy, the fact that he takes time out to be photographed shaking hands with the poor and the downtrodden does not fucking interest me.

These are more trends in University rather than society, but they bother me all the same.

If you don't want to talk in class just type out what you thought of the class and email it: This is a current trend in many of my tutorials, both this year and last year, which I personally find bothering. I don't mind it if say someone who is not too familiar with the main language of the University they are attending and would rather express their thoughts and opinions in the language they're most comfortable with, that I can understand. My problem though is when people who can clearly speak the main language properly choose not to speak in class because they don't feel like it. I get that not everyone is okay with public speaking and that some people may by shy, but this is University, expressing your opinions is the entire point, and sooner or later you have to say something, at least if you try to talk now you'll be better equipped to express your ideas when the time comes.

If you don't stand for any political movement than you are either ignorant and/or a terrible person: look, I get that University is certainly a good place to meet other people who share your ideals, and I get that it may be a place to bring attention to important issues, but why must I choose to stand for a political movement? Why do I have to stand as either a supporter or an opposer, can't I just not care either way? Apparently no, because apparently these students want to know what my thoughts are on every subject, even subjects I either know nothing about or don't care enough about.

If you don't think Communism is super awesome or will totally work, than you're just selfish: apparently if you're a student or a professor who doesn't speak kindly of Communism, than your opinions are not worth a damn because they just aren't. Enough said really, and while it isn't that I think those who do think Communism is awesome have no worthy opinions, I see an inherent flaw in the idea of "All ideas should come together to form the most informed opinions" when certain ideas aren't even given the chance to speak, such as not liking Communism.
