Well that is clearly a biased graph. For starters Kartina is marked as 514 million, while the rest are just marked as 275, 209, although I assume it means million. Also I'm not sure if just the first 7 days can really give you a good idea of the general situation.
Just wanted to point that out.
...
I think people use the first seven days as a projection because thats when its freshest and the coutry shows its weakest. after the help starts coming in and rebuilding starts, it looks less horrible and less people donate. Kinda the shock and awe factor.
Hmm... well, that is true. Perhaps I've just had too many graphs in Data Management class recently -_-

All this talk of world hunger, obesity and charity makes my bug bears feel so shallow.
I'm also older than the average forum dweller here, so my opinions are that of a grumpy old dude.

The rise and rise of RNB in "pop" music. Is it just me or is it getting to a point where it's drowning out nearly every other form of music. Even programs dedicated to alternative music now seem to be dominated by people talking over a backing track.

Kids walking around with thier smart phones playing music out loud. Usually some tinny crap of the aforementioned variety. Get some headphones. Even if people wanted to listen to what you were playing the sound coming out of your micro-watt speaker is *&&%^ and you're ruining music.

The wearing of jeans / pants so that underwear can be see. Isnt it time this fad ended already.

Clothing in general;

Men that are / dress "metro"-sexual. Men should be men. You should be able to identify a male or a female from a distance based on their clothing and their walk. When average men dress and walk like women society has a problem.

Fat women in leggings. Ugg boots. Fugly more like.

On the otherhand I should try not to care so much.

Or when girls always say theyr'e bi to get guys' attentions. Grabbing your friends ass doesn't make you bi! It makes you a little strange!
What girl does that? I'd outcast her in an instant if I found out about that. And being bisexual isn't attractive, it just makes things awkward.

I also hate the gay pride, the weed pride protests. I want weed to be illegal, and for homosexuality to be a dont-ask-dont-tell policy nationwide just because of all the morons advocating for the opposite.
For the former, there isn't anything wrong with marijuana and it is said to have some minor medical purposes. That's more then can be said for Cigarettes, which are legal.

As for the latter, you'd deny a basic civil right out of spite?

While I cant answer for the poster, I can perhaps understand his point of view. There's nothing wrong with homosexuality, but isn't it about time (if you'll excuse the expression) they stopped ramming it down everyones throats. Hasn't acceptance of homosexuality reached a point where it's going to be pretty much as acceptable as its going to get?

World hunger. Shouldn't we have fixed this by now? I mean by 2015 we're supposed to have flying cars and all that jazz so we should at least make sure people are eating...
Would you call it a trend, though? Less and less people are starving every year (though the rich do get richer and the poor do get poorer).
In certain regions certainly it is a trend. Especially when, after a drought or another national disaster strikes they lack the resources to respond like we would in the West.

then youre not being atheistic, you're just being prejudice and something of a dick really. Last i checked, atheist meant you believed in no god of any religion, not an immediate hate and intolerance to Christians. Cause i gotta admit, if thats the true definition there, my atheistic friends arent doing it right.

and thats fine, but considering that atheism is <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism_and_religion#Legal_status_of_atheism>protected under <url=http://factschurch.com/sermons/sermon004.html>the legal protections <url=http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=31895>religions have (at least here in the US), id say its very much a religion, as it even fits some of the core questions of what necessarily makes a religion.

Of course, you're free to give that up, just, you think its you're being infringed upon now, just wait till you dont have that freedom and some tells you to be religious (jewish, muslim, christian, hindu, etc) and the law cant do anything about it.

I dont care if you are or not to be honest, but you seem to have the wrong view of what it means.
Just thought I'd comment on your view that atheism is a religion. It isn't, but it is in the same kind of area. They are both beliefs pertaining to a higher power, but atheism is not a religion in the same way that bald is not a hair colour. Atheism and religion both describe someone's view on this higher power, with atheism describing their lack of belief and religion describing the higher power they believe in.

As for trends which bother me, leggings and ugg boots (fairly petty but I guess I haven't seen much to annoy me lately). Leggings and ugg boots may be fine if you live somewhere that is usually warm and dry. Newsflash ladies, you are in Scotland and it's been raining all week, dress for the weather!

I hate how Mountain Dew and now Ruffles have held flavor competitions to determine which flavor out of X is the most popular. After a few weeks, they pull the losing flavors but then the winning flavor is ultimately pulled after 1 to 3 months. Yes, I am still bitter about Pitch Black going away again. Same with the Buffalo Chicken Ruffles. Also, what the hell happened to my Livewire Mountain Dew?!
Yer, its the same with Ben and Jerry's. A few years ago they stopped making my favorite flavor, then my second favorite. Soon they will sell just cookie dough. And years ago when vanilla coke came out everyone agreed it was awesome and they stopped selling it, and all these 'cream soda' knock of versions are horrible.
My absolute favorite Ben and Jerry's flavor was Vermonty Python and the day they stopped shipping it I nearly cried. One day I plan on going to Vermont just to visit the Ben and Jerry flavor-graveyard so I may pay my last respects. I'm hoping against hope they don't take away my Boston Cream Pie. As for Vanilla Coke I can find it but that may just be because I'm living in so close to some major Coke bottling plants. Still, when it was readily available my summer of 2004 (I think...could have been 2003) was Vanilla Coke, Pizza that tasted like Cheeze-it's and, Halo. It was a damn fine summer.

i mean just because i don't want to get social site accounts doesn't mean i live under a rock...

Trend that is the most likely to piss me off and make me yell incoherently at conservatives?
Gay marriage in America. Specifically, the fact that it's not legal and the fact that ANYONE still believes the legalization of Gay Marriage is a RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION. It's fucking not. It's a legislative and civil rights discussion. GRAGLE GRAGLE!
It's a disturbing trend, though not entirely new, that ANY human rights issue is put up to popular vote. They're supposed to be freaking inalienable rights.

This doesn't just mean gays, either, because we're still dealing with rather draconic attitudes towards women and anyone darker than the Irish. Which are then put up to vote.
But haven't you read any of the other posts on this thread? They say that racism and sexism "aren't really problems anymore!" That's good. It means we can all relax, right? The problems have just gone away, and anyone who brings up sexism or racism is just doing so to manipulate other people! I'm glad I don't have to worry my little white, heterosexual, male head anymore. Moral quandaries are inconvenient and confusing!

Sarcasm aside, I completely agree about the dangers of putting these types of issues up to popular vote. There's a certain point where bickering over the particular details of federal and state laws begins to toe the line of basic human rights, and that's the point where the government is supposed to step in and protect its citizens, not hold a popularity contest to see who's allowed to have equal pay, equal protection, and equal rights THAT week.

No, it hasn't. Maybe people aren't beaten to death, denied federal protection, prohibited from marrying, prohibited from visiting each other in the hospital, fired unlawfully, demonized, and assaulted based on who they love where YOU come from, but over here in the good ol' US of A there is a culture of danger and legislative abandonment surrounding the GLBT community. And I'm sorry if Gay Pride and people fighting for Gay rights has ever made you uncomfortable or.. Uh... "Rammed" anything down your throat, but good people are going to be up in arms as long as there are basic human rights being violated. You know, kind of like they were about the rights of African Americans a few decades ago and women's rights a few decades before that.

It's not going away, dude, and no amount of whining is going to change that.

The fact that few people want to take responsibly for themselves any more. That it's always someone else's fault for the reason you failed. No, sorry. Sometimes, you simply must take the blame for what your actions have wrought

Oh, and militant bronies. Those too

Pretty much this. I actually refuse to play a lot of fighters because it annoys me how the camera lovingly pans over every curve of the female characters. I go and MENTION this on a forum and get tons of replies back saying that I'm taking the fun out of games because the manchildren want their fill of animated titties. (Yes, MovieBob also touched on this. I know, very well aware in fact)

OT: I'm sick of many things

-Girls with plat blond dyed hair. Seriously, when is this fad going to end? It's not sexy.

-People who get tats but get generic shit or stuff they don't understand:

"Dude, I got some sweet stars!"
"Those are nautical stars. Were you ever in the Navy?"
"Dude, what?"

-Plastic surgery and photoshop. People age and die. It's life. Stop trying to reverse nature.

-Geek 'chic'. Being a geek or a nerd is not a fashion statement. I REFUSE to watch the very people who mocked me in middle school take on the EXACT things they mocked me for and make them a bloody fashion!

-How if you don't like classic games from the 80s that you are somehow not a gamer. I grew up in the 90s. The only games I ever played from that era are the original Super Mario Bros, Pac Man, Pong, and Space Invaders. I didn't like them. They aren't fun to me.

-How invasive advertising has become. Yes, I RARELY buy stuff just because I see an ad, but I hate the fact that the ads are there. I want to see cities and highways, not billboards and posters.

-The education system putting so much pressure on math and science. I love BOTH of those subjects, but I hate hearing how my being an English major isn't 'furthering society in any beneficial way'. You know what is the defining factor for civilization...oh yeah, a WRITING SYSTEM. And anyone who says that art doesn't further society needs to take a good damn look at history and the things that we consider important from those time periods.

-How it's ok for guys to dress like slobs, but GOD FORBID that a woman not care about how she looks.

-That you need prior experience in order to get a job, but to get prior experience you first NEED a job.

Ok, I'm done ranting XD That felt good to get out.

This "raising awareness" stuff people are doing. A friend of mine recently wore pink for a week "to raise breast cancer awareness" and was quite vocal about it. Breast cancer isn't some obscure endangered animal; I'm pretty sure just about everyone is "aware". Wearing pink all day only makes it look like you're helping.
Wow.
That was very well said, good work old chap!
I agree with this, especially the facebook status alternative for raising awareness.

Also the whole, holy shit the world is going to end and eating ____ will kill you, i think the last one was like... 3 eggs a day gives you prostate cancer. Ok ill just go back to eating shitty foods.

The whole stupid "I'm going to act like I give a shit because it's a hot topic" craze that goes around. Notice how no one says anything about Breast Cancer until its either that ONE and only month that Breast Cancer exists or until someone famous dies from it.

Same with national disasters, no one cares about a country until something happens to it. It's mostly celebrities sure and they're just doing it to keep relevant but it's still idiotic.

Same with the whole Gay Marriage "argument." I just don't see how people can give two shits about something that has ABSOLUTELY no effect on them. None. At all. Zero. Zip. Nada. Let them get married and live life that everyone else is allowed.

Also, all of the charities for poor third world counties. I'd rather see the money going to help people in their own state that they're just ignoring. It's a sad state when you send your money to Sally Struthers right over the heads of people in your own state / country who could use the help just as much just so you can feel good. Course, the whole idea of buying a clear conscious in itself is ridiculous.

Probably a few more too but thats good enough.

In the end no matter what happend in the end these fight don't do anything but waist time and spread hate.
That's not the only reason to do it.

Ireland:
Contraceptives made legal in the 70's (wouldn't be readily available until the 90's).
Homosexuality made legal in the 80's.
Divorce made legal in the 90's.
Abortion is still illegal, but it wasn't until the 90's that people could legally leave the country to get one or doctors could even legally give information about them.
I know what you're thinking, "Well that's all in the past". Yeah but check out our constitution:

Preamble:

In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, from Whom
is all authority and to Whom, as our final end, all
actions both of men and States must be referred,
We, the people of Éire,
Humbly acknowledging all our obligations to our
Divine Lord, Jesus Christ, Who sustained our
fathers through centuries of trial

"The publication or utterance of
blasphemous, seditious, or indecent matter
is an offence which shall be punishable in
accordance with law. "
About two years ago they introduced a fine of 25000.

Luckily Ireland is becoming less and less Catholic.
That an ecuse people say Muslims are evil and caused war. Should all Muslims be kicked out of every country.

People will always use some reason or another to force thier wills on another. Go watch the south park view where everyone is an Athist. That pretty much how it is. Just remember racist think that have a good reason to hate someone. Everyone has thier reason to hate but in the end hate is just that hate. All it does it make everyone worst and this world alittle darker and harder to live in.

Did I say all Catholics are bad? No I did not, the point I made was that the church had a strangle hold on this country. Do I think all catholics should be kicked out of Ireland? No, and I never said they should. The reason I'll argue against religion is their bullshit superstitions are effecting my life and limiting my freedom. I nevr said I hate catholics, I hate catholicism, there's a difference.
I think we have a failure to communicate. If it effects you then by all means fight. I'm talking if you go on a message board for a religon and start calling people fools. If you have something shoved down your throat then by all means fight. Heck I'll stand with you but if a church buys the land thier not kicking anyone out would you ban then from building a church.

That what I'm talking about.

I dislike these bloomer-like pants that women have started wearing. They don't look very stylish or attractive, i'm not quite sure what the point of them is, they basically looks like they're wearing a pair of silken curtains, it just looks silly.

Also Bronies. I mean the whole fad was easily enough to tolerate because i assumed it will all be over in a couple of months, but it hasn't, and it keeps on going on, and on and on. And all the while certain Escapists are still keeping this tiring and depressing charade about evangelising MLP. Look, i couldn't give a toss about your children's cartoon, so stop reminding me off it's existence.

On a related point, Otaku's. Or, more particular, anime fans who seem to like anime simply because it's anime, rather than judging the individual cartoon by it's own merits. I've gone to friends houses and we'll watch anime there and i've ended up sitting through animes which were blatantly aimed at children. The protagonists were in high-school, it's themes are full off teenage-related angst and issues, i just couldn't get why we couldn't watch some perfectly good anime that was more adult orientated, like Black Lagoon or Ergo Proxy for instance. After all, the people I was sat with were all fast approaching twenty years old, that's the kind of stuff we should be watching as reasonable adults! If i were five years younger then yeah this stuff would have been good because i was an actual teenager back then. I can't decide if wherever adult anime fans who watch teenage-anime are so in love with all things Japanese they don't even realise this anime is not aimed at them, or wherever they are trying to fill some sort of psychological void that exists in their minds because they didn't actually grow up in Japan in the first place.

And why on earth is rap, hip-hop and R&B so bloody popular? I don't like it, simple as, so i avoid it. Then i'm watching the news or a documentary and all of a sudden there's some rapper articulating his views on urban poverty. They're like Bronies, you can't get away from them even if you tried. >.<

I also don't like video-games which over-sexualise female characters. When i play my video games, i don't want to feel like some sort of pervert, i want to have some fun. I also hate it when adverts (for anything) feature scantly clad women just to get men's attention. Feels like i'm being used... Also, i hate adverts in general, and i also hate how Sky TV now has a tendency to air adverts across channels at the same time, so i can't simply flick to another channel when the ad break comes on.
