So, people, I have to make a praise for the Brony community now.
At first I found Bronys questionable. Every fandom seems suspicious to me, because I have the feeling they praise things just more than they deserve. But then I thought about it and realised that it is quite comforting that guys in their twentys can like things that are made for little girls. Its a sign that gender roles arent that solid many people tend to think. I mean, I am against that whole geneder mainstreaming (smells like fanaticism for me), but how it is now in our societies seems so much like that indian caste system. If you are a man, you have to like big action movies, if you are a woman, romantic comedies, and all that crap. And the Bronys are a refreshing exception from that.
Reminds me a lot of this quote.

MLP:FIM has done pretty much the impossible, it has made something created with females in mind, cool. I can't recall anything with only female main characters aimed at females being considered cool by a large number of both genders before.

On your first point: Okay, another division of the armed forces uses a blue colour. So what? I was saying what I said jokingly anyway. On your second,I did not mean to say exhaust. I meant to say some kind of smoke trail. Like how, here in Britain, we have an air-show that includes jets called 'The Red Arrows' which have different coloured smoke trails. And yes, they would be noticeable, but I'm thinking they could use it for showing off.
On your third point: Wow, seriously?
One: Having a distinctive look is essential for a demonstration squadron. Demonstration squadrons (In the US Military, anyway) are tools for recruitment into the armed forces. They need to have a distinctive look in order to make the respective branch look appealing. If the USN/USMC (the two share a department) are using blue planes, the USAF can't do so, less their planes be confused for Navy planes. Hence why their demonstration squadron, the Thunderbirds, are mostly white, the a splash of red and blue, as opposed to the Blue Angels' blue and gold.

Example:
Blue Angels
Thunderbirds

Two: I'll chalk that up to miscommunication.
Three: That was originally supposed to be a joke. After all, I'm military and watch MLP.

I have no idea where this chain is going, but I refuse to back down. STUBBORNNESS WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!

Two: Miscommunication, so... no argument here!
Three: Ah, good! You were joking. Nice to clear that up, because it sounded idiotic. No argument here, too.

Alright, seems we got that... conversation... sorted out. Good! Don't want to argue, arguing is silly.

I WIN! MUHUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -ahem-

I enjoy a good argument, personally. So long as it's a battle of well thought out points and not a contest of petty insults.

I've seen like 3 or 4 episodes, and I don't get it. Every time I see it I say,"Yep. This is a show for little girls." The internet has made some funny things because of it but the show itself, I don't get it.
It took me awhile to get into it, I always liked the art style and the things done with it but watching the show made me want to escape my skin. For me it took my friend poking me to watch it during our drinking nights. I found a character I really liked then saw her in a few awesome episodes and boom, watched the rest... well not that quick, it was pretty staggered but once I finished 2 seasons I was like "that was good" then soon I was like, dammit, I want more.
Pod people, pod people everywhere. Stay back.

The difference is those are all gender/age/demographic neutral classifications. Bronies specifically implies males, usually males too old to be considered children. Why not create a term that incompasses everyone that likes the show and call ourselves that instead.
every pony fan i've talked to male and female regardless of age has referred to themselves as a brony. it does encompass everyone if they want it to.
That seems incredibly bizarre since the term brony is clearly comes from fusing 'bro' and 'pony', and was initially created distinguish male fans of the show, regardless of what it means now. This is also complicated by the fact that there's another term for viewers who are female called "pegasisters".
Why call all fans of the show 'bronies' and not 'pegasisters'?

because bronies is what has caught on i guess. besides. you can think of the word bro as just a synonym for friend. which fits the theme of the brony fandom. of course if you want to call me a pegasister I'm hardly going to complain. certainly better than "******" and "horse fucker"

Because of all the female bronies I know and have talked to on the subject from chat and the real life variety, which number around ten or so, there is a 100% majority saying that Pegasister is the dumbest thing to call themselves.
Two of which actually get offended at the thought that they can't be bronies since they are girls, and are forced into the inferior title of pegasister instead.

Also as an aside, arguing semantics of names for fans suggesting that Bronies aren't like Whovians, Trekkies, etc because of perceived gender specificity is REALLY nitpicky.

I find some humour in a fandom that prides itself on childish things to so often coming across as so desperate for the affirmation of it by detractors.

Like, seriously guys, people don't like MLP. People don't like obnoxious people whom have huge colourful animated avatars of characters from kid's shows.

That's one of the things you're just going to have to accept.

You don't need to drag a thread on for 8 pages in some desperate desire for acceptance.

Like whatever you want to like, but, shut up about it, we don't need to know you've seen fan art, nor that "Clopping" exists, you don't have to talk about it every time the topic comes up.

There's a line between "Fan" and "Creepy Obsessive".

Most people actually dislike the latter and are fine with the former, and most people assume they're being hated on for being the former, and instead come across as the latter.

I decided to watch a few episodes of FiM, and I came away with the conclusion that it is actually a pretty clever show. Having said that, I think I'm willing to come to a detente with the brony fanbase: I won't call them immature manchilds for liking a kids show (though I reserve the right to do so for other reason) and they won't fill me in on their MLP/'The Sound and the Fury' crossover fiction or whatever.

Nerds have a tendency to be nitpicky. There's been argument for decades whether Star Trek fans are Treckers or Treckies with neither term meaning anything at all accept being a different spelling.

I think brony and pegasister are dumb if meant to apply to everyone, especially since both were created to segregate the fanbase by gender. I don't really see what makes either inferior though, if anything pegasister seems more clever. But that's just my opinion, which doesn't really count for much I know.

If you and your friends prefer brony to pegasister who am I to argue, but that opinion it [a href="http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic/picks/results/838823/what-call-female-brony"]doesn't appear to be a universal [/a]

It's kind of weird how no one seems to realize that a lot of nerd culture is built around things that are technically for kids. The only real difference between mlp and everything else is that mlp was designed for girls, instead of boys. And no one likes girls things because they are full of cooties.

What the hell is mlp/'the sound and the fury' crossover fiction?

I find humor in the fact that the detractors are grasping at straws, and resorting to making up reasons why they hate it, and reasons why they're even in this thread at all.

Why are they so desperate to make it known that they hate this one particular thing? Do they act like this towards every other thing in their lives they hate?

People are free to like and dislike anything they desire.

But the question remains: If someone has such an incredible undying and relentless hatred of this one particular thing, and it causes them much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth, ... then why oh why don't they just keep away from it and stay out of threads about it?

THAT is the million-dollar question.

Wait, what?
Bronies in this thread are talking amongst themselves about fan art and such, and YOU think they should all "shut up about it"? And that they "don't have to talk about it every time the topic comes up"?

lolwut?

uhh, you do realize this thread is a brony-related topic, right? You realize bronies are going to be talking about brony things in here, right?
You realize how ridiculous it sounds to tell them, in a brony thread, to "shut up about it", and "stop talking about it when the topic comes up", right?

You're criticising bronies for talking about brony things in a brony thread.

I'm sure I don't have to point out any further how ridiculous that is.

Oh, and the only people in here talking about clopping, are the "detractors".

To save you the effort, I'm going to keep this quick, and also to avoid "Talking about the topic every time it comes up".

(Although, notably, the topic we're discussing now is not specific to bronies and therefore technically has nothing to do with bronies beyond being the example in this instance.).

But, anyway.

You won't get anywhere with circular logic.

That's just not how it works. Sorry.

Basically I was just making as obscure a reference for subjects of crossover fanfiction as possible.

Good book, but you'll probably need cliffnotes to understand what the fuck is going on in the first half of the book.

Oh dear. The world has gone absolutely banana nut butters..
What's next, a Dora wrestling federation? Sesame street ice hockey team?

This is well beyond the scope of my comprehension, I can tell you that for a fact.

Unlike those other shows, the new mlp is awesome.

This does a pretty decent job of explaining it.

But one thing to understand is that the new show is designed to be something that parents can watch with their kids, meaning we get things like the Big Labowski ponies.

Yes, they do show up in the show.

Oh don't bother to try and convince me why this show is so great and all, I stopped trying to understand that a long long time ago. But what boggles my mind here is the fact that they have an actual brony squadron.. even if you're a legit brony, doesn't that sound slightly off? I mean, I'm a big fan of Transformers for instance, but I'd find a military division that calls itself 'The Decepticons' or something like that also freakin weird. I don't know why exactly, but I guess it just kind of chips away at the authority these people ought to have.

Really, its almost no different from something like transformers, the age target isn't different, the main difference is the gender target.

Chances are there are at least a few transformer named squadrons, the story says each class chooses a patch and ones in the past have based on other pop culture things like "Hangover, Facebook, and "Got Milk"" so I would be really surprised if there wasn't an autobots or decepticons one. Ultimately being in the military is about teamwork and if something like this helps the class work better together then it filled its function.
