Whether the game's worth it or not we'll find out when it comes out so point hating it just yet imo but I have a simple question : Are Valve going poor? Why make this a full release with a few different maps a few new weapons and not much else and charge 60$ or a bit more for those of us in Europe. I'd rather get all the new stuff for 15$ as an expansion or something...

Wasn't Left 4 Dead a test anyway?
That wasn't really made clear to most of the gaming public.
And that's where the real problem lies. A lot of people are feeling cheated about having paid full price for a tech demo/beta that hasn't gotten a whole lot of love. While this is hardly the first time something like this has happened, the fact that it's Valve doing it is the real issue. If EA had put out L4D, you think there'd be this kind of reaction? Instead it'd be a whole lot of "Oh EA, you silly cads," and people would get on with their lives, but it's Valve. A company name that carries a lot of weight and expectations with it. A company that has so far not delivered on adding lots of new content to L4D1 like they said they would.

I'm not a L4D fan, far from it. I never really cared for it and found the overall experience pretty underwhelming, and even I did a double take when Valve said they were putting out L4D2 already. Yes, it's Valve, and we all know L4D2 will be incredibly well polished, but can you really blame people for feeling cheated over this?

I was reading PCZone's review of L4D again last night, back when it came out, and I found something I thought was interesting:

'Despite its efforts [...] I'd also argue that L4D doesn't have eternal replay value [...] Then again with Valve promising new creatures, new campaigns and existing maps redone with Versus capabilities that will be sent to you through the Steam pipe (presumably for free, it you look at the TF2 model) it does seem a bit churlish to moan excessively about it.' PCZONE, Issue 202, p.59.

The promises must have been pretty big for even game reviewers to pick up on it. And how many of those have Valve delivered? And how many appear just to be put straight into their "new" game?

You what i would find funny, if they knew it was going to be like this.So they did an 'Orange box' kinda thing and released all of it at once w/ half life 2 Ep. 3, Left for Dead 1 and 2. With some random portal kinda game thats awesome but short.

All that, and they dont announce that Ep 3 is in it till 2 weeks before release. They just wanted to test their community.

If they did this, its a win for everyone but valve, who have proven that some of their fan base has no hope in them.

Anyone else just glad that this means we wont be running into these "people" online in L4D2?

Let me get this straight.

Valve, albeit against their usual plans, decides to release a sequel to an extremely popular and beloved zombie game earlier than usual, with tons of new content, new enemies, new Survivors, new weapons, and a re-vamped Director engine, and these people are boycotting it because....it's too early? Valve wants to make money? These people are L4D hardcore fanboys? It's not really clear, but what IS clear is how utterly moronic this boycott group is.

As an example of GOOD boycotting, in order to show these people what the word really means, you know what? I'M BOYCOTTING THIS GROUP. Left 4 Dead 2 is looking awesome so far, if you don't mind me saying so, and if you hate Valve for releasing a highly anticipated sequel EARLY, well then, that's your own problem.

And that's the Word.

Honestly, I'm more surprised that people aren't more pissed that the game happens to take place in New Orleans- you know, the place that got hit by Hurricane Katrina- than the fact that FIDDLE MUSIC is used instead of regular horde music.

I always liked that Valve wasn't like the many other developers, in the sense of not milking their franchises to death just because they can. Because of that, they're currently on a short list of developers who's games I'll buy just because they made it. It'd take a lot for me to call them a crappy developer, but if L4D2 isn't the orgasmic experience I expect from Valve, then I'm not going to be as willing to throw money at them.

Left 4 Dead still has a lot of problems, and I know a lot of people were expecting Valve to patch them up in a timely fashion. More likely than not, most of them will be fixed in the sequel, but when your expecting them to be fixed in a patch it's a kick in the nuts.

Instead of looking at left 4 dead as a bad thing why don't they look at Left 4 dead as a beta.
To be honest, I'm not at all thrilled at the idea of having paid $50 for a beta.

I'm of two minds about this. On one side, this smells like a trick EA would pull, which does not at all sit well with me coming from Valve. Valve is one of the few developers around these days whom I believe actually like making games, instead of seeing them (and the gamers who play them) as just cash cows. This sort of move feels like backsliding, and I worry that the trend will only get worse, heading for a theoretical worst-case scenario where Valve are charging us for different outfits for Alyx and a second ending.

On the other side, I can see where L4D 1 and 2 could possibly compliment each other. The second game is better-lit, has a bit more of an action feel to it, and takes place in an entirely different part of the U.S., allowing for a different tone to the game. I'll be upset if Valve expects me to pay full price to what seems to be amounting to little more than a "day mode" for L4D, but I think I see a path where the two games don't cannibalize (see what I did there?) each others' playerbases.

I do agree with one key point brought up by others, though- it's far too soon to tell just what is going to happen. I want to see Ep. 3 as much as anyone, but I also don't think that every person who's on the L4D team was stolen directly from, or would contribute greatly to, Ep. 3's development.
Well you have to remeber that the world is facing one of the toughest econimic crisis it's ever seen. Valve may love making games but you know the old saying never mix pleasure with business. Valve is a Comapny first and a fun game making clubhouse second.
This part is not directed at you but to all the stupid idiots in that steam group.

Well to be honest the Left 4 dead group jumped the gun a bit. It's been what 3 days since the game was announced and all we have seen from the game are new things which if you look at any great sequel, was the selling point of the game. People have to remeber that Valve isn't EA. When they make a new game a new storyline or campiegn isn't enough. Look at Madden. Has EA even changed the concept of the game? No. Have they changed the game at all beside a bunch of graphic overhauls and the occasional new thing (Such as Qb vision or the hit stick)? No. They complain about the switch from Night to Day but the way there making it sound is that noght is gone completly. They complain about the new survivors. Let's be realistic here. Valve wanted to make a realistic zombie apoclypse. Do you think the survivors who live up in Pennslvania are gonna escape south. No during a deadly viral outbreak you head north so the cold kills the virus (Or that may be Bacteria). They complain about new content. They already gave you Survivor mode for free. People complain about how fast the game will come out and how it won't give developers enough time to make changes. People complain about how the game came out to fast. Right look there an ever expanding company they can't give there workers nothing. They may not like the fact that Valve did not include the game in the new Orange box Or blue box or whatever there calling it but they belive they can't realese 3 great games in one bundle. Just be glad there not charging seprate for half life and Portal 2.

What they could do is, NOT BUY L4D2!!! I will buy it, just cause of how awesome the first one was, and the improvements will just make it BETTER! But, I won't argue with them, if they don't want to enjoy this awesomeness of it they can I will though.
You do realize that's what boycotting is?
Do you also understand that thats what I said?
But I said I'm not gonna argue with the filth so...

Because I bought the game 2-3 weeks ago for 30 euro. That's a lot for a 16-year old.

All we want is some sort of... decency. I don't know, 50% less for L4D2 if you have a L4D1, maybe access to preview weekends/beta tests...

But not a dick move like this. "Oh, you paid $50 for a multiplayer game that was supposed to last 2-3 years? Well boo-hoo, you will have to pay $50 again in a year, because your old game will no longer be supported. And we can't promise we won't do this with L4D3, L4D4..."

Ah the internet. You can do anything this days using it! Well, I will consider buying L4D2 when it's price drops. I really don't want to pay the full price again. As for the group, you are not achieving anything that way! And if you want to start a group, start one that tries to convince valve to not let Half Life 2 Episode 3 go the way of Duke Nukem Forever!

Just treat it like an expansialone game, and it all becomes fine and dandy (and valve isn't obligated to give you free stuff dammit, I know I got more than my money's worth from l4d 1 without any new stuff)

But.. But.. there are so many other good reasons to complain, I mean PC owners are complaining about having to buy a sequel thats coming out too soon, here are some reasons to complain.

1. You own a console version of L4D

Thats about it, you see while valve MAY do a discount for PC owners of L4D, i somehow doubt us lowly Console gamers will get one, and while i understand that they couldnt release modding tools for the console, it doesnt mean i have to think happy thoughts about the fact.

Oh, and one more reason, if Bills not in it ill wage war on valve.... theres nothing like a geriatric war veteran with an assult rifle.
