Didn't read the entire thread, but I just want to say that I hope this boycott influences the box-art too - the hand MUST change. Who needs 2 fingers anyway?

Most of that manifesto is either a) untrue or b) negative bullshit.

If they dont like it, THEN DONT BLOODY PLAY IT.

EDIT: Do they not realise that L4D1 was just a test, that valve weren't particularly pleased with?

Screw them, i'll be enjoying the sequel while they moan.

This boycott is stupid. I have brought Half-Life 1 and all the addons and downloaded the mods and total conversions(tc) of the game. HL2 came out and then shortly after HL1 was remade with the source engine and what did Valve do? They re-released HL1 using the Source Engine. What did I do? I brought the game again!

If this game comes out on time, tons more people boycotting the game will buy the game. There were people that didn't like it when valve started selling the TC's and mods that people got for free before but that didn't stop people from buying it. This won't stop it either. All it is going to do is provide some free advertising for valve for this game.

[edit] my grammar and punctuation skills suck.

I'm sick of people who will take and enjoy a game.. and then whine about it every step of the way. Valve has always come through for its players. Lots of its manifesto arguments are subjective. I like the music, I like the idea of daylight, I think l4d has lived up to everything.

I don't see how the community will be 'decimated'. At worst, l4d2 is just like an expansion.
Valve has no faith in l4d? So companies have to take a mandatory break after a release of a game for it to be good?

They're also criticising Valve for making a game 'too quickly'.... while every other day they whine about Episode 3 taking too long. And what's this crap about losing their reputation for sticking with games post- release? TF2 is a textbook example for the opposite. So is the Survival Pack, and the constant stream of patches for all sorts of games.

These people are drawing all of these stupid accusations from a single trailer and a few gameplay clips.

The worst part is, I'm sure that those 3000 will be queued up for it come November.

Yeah man, I was pissed the fuck off when I saw them announcing a sequel already. They could make L4D a better game with DLC alone, in less time, and focus on stuff that's already in danger of age and doesn't have L4D's longevety and replayability, like Portal, or Halflife, or Portal, or perhaps even Portal.

All of this is to say, when the fuck am I getting that damned cake already?

The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games
L4D2 is too colourful to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic

Doesn't the first one make the second one look kinda stupid? They want it to change but the things they change are not good because they aren't like the first game... What. The. Fuck? Aren't you allowed to change the visual aesthetic in sequels now? Then maybe we should boycott the Monkey Island team for their ideas in "The Curse of Monkey Island"! And let's make "The Sims 45! Now with a new kind of sofa pillow stain for coffee!"

It's a 2 minute short TEASER. Who knows, maybe they are just fucking with your brains and are planning on releasing episode 3 on november 17 and the map/weapons/characters shown are just some L4D DLC. This would probably raise peoples opinion of Valve because they "still have their humor, durr-di-durr-di-durr".

What's wrong with a new game with extended content? New enemies? Stop complaining, no one is making you buy or play these games. Look at the bright side, it's not a Guitar Hero franchise.
The fact that they're charging 50$ for a new game instead of just supporting the old game with new content?

I never particularly found any offense at the trailer.
I thought it was kind of exciting for them to bring in melee as well as a new locale, but now that I see their arguments, I can totally see where they're coming from.
I have to agree...+1 Members

That would be a legitimate argument, except the new massive update system Valve, through Steam, has perfected renders it null.
Anything they were unsatisfied with, they could just gradually phase out with new updates that would also bring in the new content of the sequel.
So basically, repackaging L4D and slapping a "2" on it is totally unnecessary.

Yes, damn them for wanting to pay their developers! How dare they ask for more money for something that's going to be bigger than the original, with a significantly improved AI director, more types of zombies, more weapons, and a completely new system of combat in the form of melee. Why, they should just provide all of that for free.
Ever heard of DLCs?

I personally think its shitty that those of us who paid for l4d essentially paid to be beta testers. My beef is that l4d 2 is the finished product. It also comes with l4d's campaigns packaged with it, so you don't have to deal with quitting the game to play no mercy. So essentially you give it a little while and the l4d servers will disappear in favour of its successor. I feel like i've gone and payed £25 for a hl2 mod and now they want me to pay another £25 quid for a mod of said hl2 mod. I mean what happened to episode 3?

Also if they need to pay their developers, then they should tell them to gtfo of tf2 and work on something profitable. Course they won't do because that would upset the fans. So lets release the content we promised for l4d as a brand new game. That should keep the fans happy... This group comes as no suprise, though i get the feeling that l4d2 will boast awesome sales because they'll add some neat little feature half way through development which will justify the fact that they made me pay full whack for a beta. Thanks EA... sorry Valve.

In all fairness, would you agree Left 4 Dead doesn't need a sequel due to the fact it had no story in the first place, and that the original was dying out for more scenarioes via DLC anyway?

where do they say they are going to charge $50 for it? Where have then mentioned pricing?
Here [http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1138]:

Shack: What price-point should we expect?

Doug Lombardi: This is a full sequel.

Shack: So full price?

Doug Lombardi: Yeah. At the end of the day, this is going to be a bigger game than Left 4 Dead. It's five campaigns versus four, all five are playable in Versus mode, Survival mode out of the box, the new multiplayer game mode. Plus over 20 new weapons and items. It's a full sequel.
EXCEPT THATS SHIT WE ALREADY HAVE IN L4D. Thats NOT new content! All you have over l4d is some new character deformation, 1 more level then l4d, and a bunch of new items. THAT IS AN EXPANSION PACK.

They're complaining that Valve... a company who by my memory has never released a bad game, is making a sequel?

Om nom nom, piracy. More fuel for people to resort to piracy.

Left 4 Dead was cheap anyway, why are people really complaining? CoD games get released every year anyway.
