Valve to Release Alien Swarm for Free

Looks fun, if Left 4 Dead had aliens and was a top down shooter.

Exactly what I was thinking. This looks to be an enjoyable little nugget of a game; I'm glad they aren't taking the Microsoft/Bobby Kotick route of charging us for it (for chrissakes, Microsoft even charges you for Xbox Live profile pictures!), since there are probably hundreds of Flash games like it throughout the interwebs.

This can probably be (lazily) summed up as 'Left 4 Dead Space' (see what I did there?).

And it will be awesome.

It's called a Dell Dimension C521 [http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/desktops/dimen_c521/pd.aspx?refid=dimen_c521&cs=22&s=dfh] but it doesn't actually have as many USB ports, it only has a 64MB graphics card, and it's four and a half years old.

too bad last week I was trying to sell my old gaming rig from 2009 it wasn't the best but it worked... I can't remember the exact specs but:
Video card: Ati Radeon Hd 4670
6Gb Ram
Core 2 duo 2.33 Ghz processor
I don't remember the rest but the case made it look like the monolith from 2001.
I would've sold it too you I only got $90 for it anyway.

Another reason to love Valve. =) I actually looked on the Steam page and saw that the game has a picture of an achievement that looks very similar to one in Portal. Anyone else notice this?

EDIT: The achievement was labeled "Perfect" for those that are hunting for it.

I'm not a huge fan of top-down shooters, but for free it is worth a try, just like America's Army. I just hope the community isn't like America's Army's... that game was free and people were constantly bitching about it on the Steam forums about how the graphics weren't top notch or whatever...

Seriously. What the hell is with people bitching about the graphics of FREE TO PLAY GAMES?

I'm not directing that at you as an attack, it's a serious question about the people you noticed and that I've noticed too.

I work for a F2P company and every friggen day we get tickets in asking how to improve graphics because "It doesn't look as good as WoW or Aion." Just like folks who don't try minecraft or Dwarf fortress because "They are ugly and therefore must be inferior to my pretty game." :/

Gets me all grumpy.

Actually, I think those were my exact words to them. It is free, who really care how good/bad the graphics look? The way I see it, the game is free and sure not everyone is going to like it, and if you don't then don't play it. The people that made it were generous enough to let you play it for free, and all they do is whine. I didn't like the game, but I didn't complain about it, I just went to play something else...

Im unfamiliar with Steam. Do I just sign up and download the game? Any credit card imputation or anything?

I mean I'd take 15mins out of my day to file some digital information if it means I get a free game. Even if I probably won't be able to run it.
