Depends on what state. For instance, in PA, the age of consent is 16, which means if you have sex with someone under 16, that's a statutory rape charge. If they are between 16 and 18, there can not be more than a 4 year age difference, and if they are over 18, anything goes, legally speaking.

Y'know, I don't know how to respond to this.

The time when the teacher slept with her student I could see it was a tad on the wrong side, though they put her into jail for a long, long time.

Theres 3 stand out points to me,

1) I don't know about the rest of you but when I was 16, I couldnt get sex off my mind, so this woman could hardly be charged with making him do something unwillingly, he was probably all "hell yeah!"

The problem is, since he was a "minor", the government has determined that he is not qualified to determine if he ought to be sleeping with anyone. That is what the Age of Consent law implies.

2) In a parking lot? really?... classy real classy... *facepalm*

While I wasn't sleeping with a 35 year old, the first time I had sex was in a park which isn't any better. I later decided that comfort was actually kind of important.

18 is a perfectly reasonable consent age, all things considered.

I think the reason they are making a big deal out of it is this

A) The large age gap which even in 16 age of consent state will get u in trouble

and

B) The fact that she traveled across state lines to knowingly intiate a sexual releationship with a minor, Which made this a federal case instead of a state case.

It not just draconian american laws lalz facepalm, but a serious isssue. If it had been a 35 year old dude and 16 year old chick people here would be singing a diferent tune.
