"I do not know how this has happened, exactly, but I know who is responsible." the figure says. He gestures to Jean and she turns on a projector mounted to the ceiling. It showed a picture of a man and a book. "Doctor Joseph Werner Natzweiler. A fairly remedial scientist as I understand it. But, with the help of that book, he was able to reap the souls of an entire species almost over night." he said.

"You all were brought here after the reaping took place." the figure explained.

"Simple. Get rid of this man and get me back the book." he said to Axel.

"Reaping souls was my job, but I suppose this man was not satisfied with how I was doing it." the figure said to Twilight.

"You leave this mansion, and I promise you won't find another man, woman, or child anywhere." he said to Kanji.

"The only new people you will find will be others that come into this world from others." he said to Tao, his facial expression softening slightly, but it was almost unnoticeable to anyone who was not very astute in observation.

"Gettysburg, Virginia." he said to Nova.

"I should also explain. The book is The Book of Knowledge. It holds the answer to any and every question in the universe. The problem is, mortals should not be able to look upon it, and yet he can. With that book in my possession, I can right the wrong he has committed." he explained further.
