What games don't you "understand"?

I've never had much fun with WoW, Halo, or Madden, but everyone else I know who has played one of those is completely enamored with it. Actually, I've never had much fun with any MMORPGs, FPSs, or cookie-cutter sports games.

However, I do enjoy many games that others seem not to understand. For example, I like Rock Band, but I'm not sure why (I'm actually one of the few people I've heard of that wants GH5 just for the music studio). I also like The Sims, and many people give me bewildered looks when I tell them that my favorite game is Metroid Prime. It's probably because they tried to play it like a shooter, but I digress.

Everyone's taste is different, and the way personal experience shapes our view of reality makes it difficult, if not impossible, to understand why someone detests your favorite game, or vice versa. Well, that was long-winded.

World of Warcraft, and of course the sports themed games, what is so fun about playing hockey on a console with the same general idea over and over again with slightly better graphics. Not to mention the complete lack of any replay value.

I'm just going to repeat what I said in anoter thread, in another forum, months ago: I think Halo is really bad, and I'm sure that when I get around to playing it it'll just strenghten my opinions.

I also thought GoW had really bad third person shooter mechanics, but maybe I shouldn't hold it to such high standarts as a Nintendo 64 game (WinBack, to be precise).
Your saying a game is bad without playing it? What are you an idiot? I played it, I had fun. Not the best thing since Jesus, but it had action and fun things to shoot. Back on topic, Hating a game without playing it doesn't make you right. It makes you look like a egotistical moron. Experience something before you make an opinion, the people will give a shit.

World of Warcraft. Sorry, but I don't see the appeal. :/

Final Fantasy VII. Dreading on thin ice here, but I don't see how it was any better than many of the other FFs. At the time, understandable. Now? Not so much.

Guitar Hero. Fun, yes, but great enough to seemingly devote your entire life to? o_O I think not.

Grand Theft Auto and Little Big Planet. Boring. x_x To me, anyways. Sure, at first it may be fun and cute (in the case of LBP) but it's so mindless that I don't see how people can be so addicted. Or maybe that is the addicting part. I dunno.

you could say that about all games!
Well, not quite. I think you took what I said differently than I intended.

What I had meant was that at the time, it was "revolutionary" and different from anything the gaming world had seen. It changed a lot of the way games were done, I think. With it being 3D and "awesome graphics" and all. Now, it's not nearly as spectacular as it was then. Not compared to newer games and it's rare that one of the newer games is mind blowing in the same sense.
Wow, sorry. That was long winded. But that's what I had meant by that. xD

Oh right! I forgot that it would go in first person, rarely used ranged and when I did I never used first person. I meant no offense, I was just puzzled.

I never bought into the crazy hype around CoD4. I love the game, but people talk about it like it's a gift from God. Same with Crysis, except that I hate that terribly, terribly paced piece of shit.

subscription-based games (ie WoW), if i pay for a game i expect to pay for the game once
well just online rpg's in general, i cant really see the point of so much needless grinding unless i feel like im the only one who can make a difference (ie in single-player rpg's) and i dont have all these guys with no lives walking around like their shit smells like roses with all their shit-hot gear

Stalker honestly, maybe because I played it only recently but it didn't really do anything people had said it would.

Warcraft, I dunno why it's so goddamn popular and why people waste their lives on it
Halo, same as warcraft
Guitar Hero, dunno why people would rather play that plastic thing instead of learning guitar or just listening to the music
Wii Sports Resort, Wii fitness, dunno why people are saying its a better way to get exercise then ACTUAL EXERCISE

No apologies needed. When I said that 'perhaps you have forgotten' I didn't mean it sarcastically or anything like that. FSM knows I've forgotten more than my share of things.

I can think of several games I just don't get like Half-Life 2 but I don't want to explain why.

Sport games may don't have any replay value but you don't buy them for the singleplayer. You play with other people online or at home.

I don't understand all of the hype for Starcraft 2. It's not really adding anything (3d graphics are ok, but it doesn't justify a sequel and Starcraft looked great already). I mean, it's not that it will probably suck, but it doesn't seem to be adding anything too great (Blizzard has even said this) and Starcraft doesn't need changes, it is already considered the best RTS of all time. However, if all you can look forward to otherwise is "Call of Duty 6: New Scenery," then I guess Starcraft 2 is about the only game that actually can give you fun, however small.
