I was in Casey's exact situation when I was in school.
..And I got fed the damned "violence is not the answer" crap as well. For 12 years straight, while the bullying persisted. I went to a teacher, and not a damned thing was done any one of those times. And now I suffer from an extremely pent up anger, because I didn't do a thing to my tormentors. Now, I fear I may go off on someone innocent someday for saying or doing the wrong thing, after what my tormentors did in persistence towards me.
So bloody damned right Casey was in the right! While I am not usually a violent person, there is a time when you just have to show the tormentor you aren't going to put up with the tormenting again, and show him the force to make him stop. And Casey did just that, with even a very balanced case of self-defense against the kid - only enough force to smack the realization into the kid.
So.. yeah. I can kind of relate to this case in a somewhat intimate fashion. Not to try to presume too much, but everyone shouting the "violence is not the answer. ever" platitude has likely never been in this situation personally, and has little personal idea of the real emotions inside after years and years of physical and emotional torment. If this is relevant towards any of you, I'd suggest to just shut up and stop looking like an insensitive moron.
Please.
Edit: Also, greatly exaggerated OP is exaggerated.
