This can be explained by the media sensation of viewer rating. People like to get angry at things and think they are involved in something that is larger than themselves. This also explains the rise in viewer made content or feed back. This requires very little work as you can go up to anyone and get their opinion on any subject regardless of qualifications or understanding. And the religious groups are a great way to start controversy, hatred or any other high rating subject. Put an extremist of any religious group on the news and people will respond to this, and then you are able to comment on the peoples outrage to the extremist and then continue the cycle. You have high ratings and very little work to keep the news story going, just keep getting ill-informed members of the public to dispense their bile and hey presto great rating and you can sit back and watch the money role in.

Well that's just my opinion and me dispensing bile, so please ignore the angry man in the corner.

Anyways main problem for me is the debt! Fix it some how! Tax rich people(and tax them more if they find loop holes), lower spending, tax middle class more (but tax rich too along with this or i will be mad)

Why should the middle class be taxes more in return for higher taxes for the rich? Besides, Obama isn't raising the taxes on the upper class any higher than what they were before the pointless and ineffective tax cut that Bush gave them in hopes of encouraging spending.

How do we increase spending? LOL LOWER TAXES FOR THOSE WITH EXPENDABLE INCOME

It would have been more effective to cut the taxes of the lower taxes for the middle and lower classes while keeping the upper bracket at the same percentage. His planned basically relied on trickle-down economics, which is pure bullshit in itself. The reason why the rich get taxed more is because they make more money and taxes aren't as devastating to them as they are to those in the lower brackets. As of today, any income above $171K get taxes a third of their income, and even with other costs, they still have more money kept in the end than most people in the middle class make all year before taxation. They maybe out more than a third of their income, but they still have more than $90K to keep at the end, which is something that more than 95% of Americans can only dream of. They can afford more taxes, and everyone else cannot. There's a reason why higher income brackets get taxed more.


All you want is for the rich to be taxed more and still living comfortably and have the lower classes taxed more which will make their financial lives even more hellish than it already is now. We are always going to have a debt and trying to reduce it with such a haphazard method will only bite us in the ass since it will inevitably lead to less spending (or to spending with money we don't have and cannot repay).

I can usually deal with this stuff, but today i have finally snapped. This is getting ridiculous!!! Has the world gone mad? Have we lost all shreds of common sense! What on Earth can we do to fix all of this! Is no one else banging their heads against the wall!!!

- France is thinking of banning the Burka in some places, even for people who WANT to wear them
- Certain European countries have banned the little towers on mosques, something akin to banning a cross on the tops of churches if I am not mistaken
- Australia is banning things left right and center, setting their standards like in 198-fucking-4
- In China, the ability to make cheap little plastic toys are more important than workers rights
- Religious nuts in the US are getting ridiculous amounts of attention and air time
- People are scientifically arguing that the world will end in 2012
- China doesn't give two shits what the world thinks of them anymore
- Canada is going frigging insane with its Olympic regulations
- The economy is in the crapper, yet thousands and thousands of people are spending way beyond their means
- The media is filled with more private interests than ever before

So bad things are happening in the world, that's nothing new. Way I see it we have things pretty good these days. We don't have to worry about the black plague, at least the economy's stronger than it was in the great depression, racism's down for the most part, the world's a global village, technology's pretty damn good, people can be Gay, Communist, Atheist or even Bi without fear of complete oppression. If there's one thing I've learnt in my travels it's that the more you have the more you take for granted, and all too often people seem all the more grateful for everything when the world gets 'em down. And every time I come here on the escapist I've got some user telling me how the worlds going down the shitter and that there's zero hope for mankind, I mean sure the world aint perfect but it's the only one we have for now and this is the one shot at life you get so for goodness sake don't spend all day bitching about it.

Quite simple, there is nothing you can do. I try to make people lives around me a little more enjoyable, it's the best I can do under the circumstances. How do I cope? Just put up my feet and enjoy the ride as we circle the drain. As for light news... not much of that around, I would advise you to look a little closer to home that is simple and enjoyable (time with girlfriend/boyfriend etc) cliched I know but it's your best bet.

From my understanding: Drugs, STD's are more prevelant and deadly, smoking and second hand smoke is killing us off, obesity and heart disease has reached insane levels (in my part of teh world anyways), weakness due to sitting at computers for hours on end, skin cancer cause our ozone layer is fucking GONE!!!, and probable occurances that will result from global warming such as natural disaster, famine, war and disease.

Then again, this generation hasn't died yet, so this is just a projection
